    in 1911 mags, there's a tab on the follower that actuates the slide catch when the follower is at the top of the magazine .. the factory mag in your video doesn't have that tab on the follower .. The follower in the Wilson Combat mags have that tab

    I have the 1911 A1 10mm and, with nearly 2,000 rds of various ammo and styles of ammo, not one single failure of any kind!! I love it, and trust my life to it, because it's my EDC pistol

      I am pretty sure all of the failures to fire I had were primer related rather than the gun.

      That's nice for you but mine will only shoot round nose FMJ's if I try any hollow points it three point jams every single shot. I've had to go out and get a Glock 20 so I can use the hollow point self defense ammo I bought.
      I bought the RI for bear and cougar protection and don't plan to use FMJ target rounds for defense.

    I just picked this gun up at my range, I paid $500 for it, but after shooting the rental they offered at the range, I fell in love with it. I was surprised at the quality of the gun, considering it is very inexpensive for a 10MM gun.

    I recently bought one and I went out and shot a box of federal and a box of S&B, I reload so I always take a look at the rounds after shooting and, I noticed on the S&B the indent on those wasn't very deep looking. They all fired but my first thought was that their primers are harder than other companies, well at least the Federals. Mine too was very accurate! Also my factory mag did hold the slide back, I Also bought a couple Wilson Combat magazines and they worked flawlessly. I did have a ftf but I blame the light trigger! I'm almost embarrassed to say this but i was sitting at the bench shooting with my buddy behind me. I was shooting for accuracy at the time so I was just releasing the trigger enough to reset it for every shot. My buddy was talking to me and when I was responding the gun went off. My buddy didn't realize what happened. he just thought I took the next shot, but I wasn't ready for that. kind of startled me and I didn't have a firm grip on the gun so I limp wristed it not allowing it to function right. I need to stay more focused and pay more attention to what I'm doing. I was learning the gun though. I am very happy with the gun so far.

    • @DoubleEagleGunworks
      @DoubleEagleGunworks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have heard from a few other people who have had the same issue with the S&B ammo and the factory mags. When I was filming the video, I had a shot go off before I expected it to because of the light trigger. I was still pointed at the target but did not think I had pressed the trigger hard enough for it to fire.

    I had problems with my R.I. 1911 pistol magazines also (that was in .45 ACP, though), so decided to go with Wilson Combat mags for ALL my 1911 pistols. Never has ANY problems with them in ANY calibers (what a difference a Good Mag Makes!). Lol...
    Thanks for the video on the R.I. 1911 in 10 mm. I've been thinking about betting one, as they have the same take-down as all my Bul 1911 pistols, so I'm used to that little "Quirk"! Haha!
    (Can't find a 10 mm R.I. for a "decent" price now, so I guess I'm stuck with shootin' just the X-Ten and Ronin...!). Lol

    I own a RIA 1911 ultra fs A1 and I'm glad I bought just 300 rounds of S&B. She did not like them at all. Always had FTF issues. Now that I'm about 500 rounds in, she does fine with fort scotts ammunitions, Federal american eagle, Sig Sauers (phenomenal rounds, my favorite in fact). She does about 2 FTF every time I go to the range and spend about 50 rounds then I clean her after.

    • @DoubleEagleGunworks
      @DoubleEagleGunworks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Seems to be pretty consistent with the comments I have received. Rock Island Ultra 1911’s and S&B ammo don’t play well together.

    • @Sam_the_Sham_and_the_Pharoahs
      @Sam_the_Sham_and_the_Pharoahs ปีที่แล้ว

      That's so weird because my RIA 10mm eats the shit right up. But it could be a fluke either way. Maybe that lot was funky. I just have really good luck with S&B. The 9x18 Makarov S&B I have is probably the best shooting Makarov ammo I've ever had. At least you didn't buy too much of it though.

    I have both RIA 5' and 6" 10mm pistols but both of which are single stack. And both don't like Wilson Combat 9 rounders, especially if I loaded it with JHP rounds. Factory and MecGar magazines (all 8 rounders) work perfectly.

    Great review, It's almost like Rock island does a good enough quality product, then outsources the magazines to a cheap foreign or domestic manufacturer to cut cost, every time a pistol comes with 1 magazine, I know they don't care about their costumers.

    • @DoubleEagleGunworks
      @DoubleEagleGunworks  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The gun itself is very solidly built but the magazine is another story entirely. The factory magazine is terrible. It doesn’t lock the slide on the last round and it sticks in the magwell, not to mention, it just feels cheap. The Ed Brown magazines I used in the review are great. I have purchased a Wilson Combat magazine since the review and it is very solid.

      I bought an RIA 1911 Commander in .45 last year and it has the bull barrel as well and I agree that it should have a tool for takedown.
      But the tool is simple enough to make if you know how to use pliers - I do know guys who can't use pliers - someone ought not to own a 1911 if that's their mechanical aptitude.
      But I built my RIA with installation of primo parts, I just bought it to have a legally registered frame for CCW.
      Hmm ...

    I bought one of these about 6 years ago, mines the all black Ultra Tac FS and I've pumped thousands of rounds through it, even extra hot stuff and it's been nothing but reliable. The only time I've seen it malfunction was when my niece was shooting it. She limp wristed it but after I corrected her grip it never happened again. The grips are fantastic and the only 1911 I have where I didn't have to change them out right away. The trigger was really nice and smooth too. It's weird to see you have bad luck with S&B because that makes up for about 1/2 the 10mm I shoot, and I never had issues. It must be a QC issue with that lot.

    In regards to the S&B ammo - HORRIBLE experience. I got a bad batch and i had at least 20 light primer strikes, multiple hangfires and a squib - they tried telling me it was likely the pistol - a Glock 20 that has run every ammo on God's green earth without a flaw until this.

But, where the factory mag radius in to hold the final height of the follower, ever so slightly bend out on each side a few thousands to allow the follower to come up maybe 10 - 15 thousands, try that. To sort of simulate that, put the empty mag in, hold it down tight on the table, then pull back the slide to see if it now catches.

    break in period ????

      @DoubleEagleGunworks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have put a little less than 200 rounds through it so far. I have heard from others that they had similar issues but they resolved after 500 rounds or so. Hopefully, that will be the case with this one.

    I think it’s the gun. I’ve run S&B through my Tisas D10 with no problems at all. Weak hammer spring.

    • @DoubleEagleGunworks
      @DoubleEagleGunworks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess that is a possibility, but it’s odd that it only does it with S&B ammo and other people have had the same problem with the ammo in other guns.

    Shoot a hotter load and see if it runs better, that pistol weighs a ton

    • @DoubleEagleGunworks
      @DoubleEagleGunworks  ปีที่แล้ว

      It runs fine with anything other S&B ammo. It is a heavy gun but most full size 1911’s are heavy. The weight helps with the recoil of the 10 mm.

    Might have been a squib round...

    • @DoubleEagleGunworks
      @DoubleEagleGunworks  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are referring to the round that never fired after four strikes, it was more of a dud than a squib. Squibs usually at least go off.

    Well just like my Kimber I'd be returning that gun today. How can you feel safe carrying that thing? Nope

    • @DoubleEagleGunworks
      @DoubleEagleGunworks  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The gun runs fine if you use Wilson Combat magazines and any ammo other than S & B, but I did not plan on using this one as a carry gun anyway

    Stick to factory rock island clips.

      Why? They don’t work as good as ones you can get from Wilson Combat.

    Try shooting Brass next time.
    I found out that the issue was using FMJ ROUNDS

    • @DoubleEagleGunworks
      @DoubleEagleGunworks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you referring to brass cases? If so, I don’t use steel or aluminum cased ammo. I only use brass. How would a different bullet fix the problem of light primer strikes or hard primers? I didn’t have any feed issues with the gun, just the light primer strikes and the slide not locking back on the last round with the factory magazines.

    Field strip. Oil the heck out of it. My exact same gun had a problem with the trigger not resetting oil and 800 break in rounds minimum. Thats any weapon.

    • @DoubleEagleGunworks
      @DoubleEagleGunworks  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Guns do need a break in period, but the problems I was having with this gun were more ammo related.
