There was once a photo sequence of Parsons and Gerlach sharing a big one at Todos I'll never forget. Gerlach was behind, clowning, and then as he entered Parson's periphery, he assumed the business stance like he'd been serious all along. It was hilarious.
What a character Gerlach is, his big surf onomatopoeias are classic, epic interview! Props Occy, awesome work, you must have become a sort of surf historian in this journey I bet. Cheers! 🤙🏽

I just discovered Occy's pod casts, and I am in awe. I think these are the greatest forms of surfing history ever made. First, because Occy is one of the greatest surfing talents that has ever lived, and second, because he addresses high end surfing from a high end surfing perspective. It's not like he's catering to people who don't understand that, it's like he's telling those of us who lived it, stuff we never new, by getting first hand info from the greatest surfers of all times own stories. Which I guess could be for everyone, but there's no fluff, it's all the heaviest shit, known to any pro surfer, coming direct. And Occy has one of the best personalities in the history of surfing, completely comical dry humor, and very humble as well, in spite of his devastating upper echelon talent. Every show is so classic. Thanks Occy, you are amazing, still, after all these years. Keep up the good work.

Yup, Occy is really good. Brian Johnson is such a funny and down to earth guy considering is the lead singer for one of the biggest and most successful rock bands of all time.
I saw Brad in the O side parking lot back in the late 80s...he was there I believe with his Dad who was coaching him...he was super cool and funny...seems to be the same today 30 plus years later...great stories and YES master tour for sure...would love to see these OGs ripping...great job Occ really enjoyable and entertaining interview!
I read the story on Billabong going over the falls wow. They'll come out all right. It was crazy the way they started it was just one pair of sewn up shorts. One pair . I lived in Broadbeach in 84 and knew some of the locals who knew the billibong inventors. The plot of land they sold turn into this giant highrise they didn't see that comming. Aussie's, great people who know how to live. I believe surfers are special people becaus your connected to this huge body of water and this connection to the earth in a way even they can't describe but they know what it is.
Brad was always my favorite surfer got to meet and speak with him......hey Brad don't let your meatloaf.......laughs he saw me do a roundhouse stall and we talked about it....was to cool to see him do that at pipline and have a sequence of it in the mag. Wish I could have been there to do that too.
Gerlach seems to be both a double for Val Kilmer and Kurt Russel? Cool is his middle name! Bestest funniest most entertaining chat i ever watched Occ/Gerlach you are just Legends :D Two winners !

FM Billabong have fallen on a a gem with this. The Occ-Cast is so much more excitable the the WSL contests. It has interest and intrigue. Occy is my hero. But professional surfing has been crying out for this for years..

Gerlach's story was very interesting. Mark Foo told me how he used to pine for the beach when he lived in Washington D.C. It reminded me of that.
