+Sam Moore Hi Sam, Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm so glad you enjoyed the tutorial and it makes me so happy that you enjoyed making the little diaper cover. I appreciate your taking time to leave a message. Wishing you many, many successful sewing projects. Happy Sewing - Cindy
Thank you for this video. You have made the process of attaching ruffles so very simple. At first, I stayed away from all the cute ruffles, but now I'm going to make several for my newest great-grand daughter. BTW that diaper cover is so adorable!
+Dorothy McCurdy Hi Dorothy, I'm so glad you found it helpful and it makes me SO HAPPY that you are sewing cute little ruffles for your great-granddaughter!!! She will be so cute! What a treasure to have a little outfit sewn by your Great Grandma that is just a blessing. Happy Sewing - Cindy
Hi Cindy! I love the video! So helpful! I always struggle with waist bands...can't believe I'm just now learning this...but soo excited. I'll be starting this pattern tomorrow. I'll share some pics when I get done.
Hi Shalyn, I'm so glad the video is helpful. I would LOVE to see some pics of your finished project. I've been sewing for a LONG time and I still find little tips and tricks I didn't know! Happy Sewing - Cindy

VintageToNew thanks Cindy! would you believe out of all of your patterns I picked the one with no video? LOL I had to laugh! I've subscribed and I"ll be back - I now have a great niece and I enjoy sewing in between printing t-shirts! :) All the blessings you way!

Thank you so much for your kind words. I've been sewing for 40 years and I still get stumped by some store bought pattern instructions. I LOVE making my own! So glad the video was helpful to you. Happy Sewing - Cindy
Shanika S Thank you so much for letting me know it was a good pattern for you! I feel so good when I can make sewing fun and easy! I'm sure your project turned out adorable. I'm wishing you many, many GREAT sewing projects. Happy Sewing - Cindy
I've been looking for a tutorial on ruffles for sooo long now not knowing it was just "ruffles" ha ha! Idk how I came across your channel but I'm glad I did! new subbie :)
Tracey Stanley Hi Tracey - I don't have one YET! I'm starting a video series that is going to be called "Sewing School" very soon. The way I do a gathering stitch on my sewing machine is I use the longest stitch my sewing machine can make and run it along the top of the ruffle at approx. 1/4" from the raw edge. Leave a long "tail" of thread at the beginning and the end of the stitching (do not back tack on either end). Pull the bobbin thread and this will allow the stitches to gather up thus making a ruffle. I had one person say that on her machine it had a "basting stitch" setting that worked best for her, but I don't have such a stitch on my machine. I hope that this is helpful. Happy Sewing - Cindy
0riginalit33isdead I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. I'm sorry I didn't show the detail on making ruffles. To make a ruffle you use a gathering stitch. For most sewing machines you use the longest stitch you have and sew across the top of the ruffle at approx. 1/4" from the top. Then you would GENTLY pull the bobbin thread and that will cause the stitches to gather. Then you evenly distribute the gathers along the back of the diaper cover and sew in place as you see in the video. I hope this is helpful. I will do a gathering video soon, but I hope this helps for now.
Hi Vintage ToNew I am currently in the process of this project and its my first time sewing for my little princess that will be born in April this year, I am a little stuck I choose the 18-24 size but not sure how long I should be cutting my waist band elastic? I have purchased the pattern but no indication on the size of the elastics for the waist band and the legs????? please help. Thanks
Hi Tara - Congratulations!! There is a chart in the "Materials" section that states the sizes for the elastic for waist and legs. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Happy Sewing - Cindy
Thank you for stopping by and watching the video. You can find the pattern here: vintagetonew.com/product/pdf-pattern-download-ruffle-bum-diaper-cover/
I can't buy the pattern or down load it as well-- can you please just give me the measurements??? I'm not good with computers and all that goes along with it...please help.
It would be impossible to give you the measurements not knowing what pattern you would be using. You can find the pattern in my Etsy shop. I wish you the best in your sewing projects. Cindy
Hello Vintage to New, I love your videos!!!!! I can see from your video that you use a Bernina sewing machine. I am in the market for a new sewing machine. Could you give me a recommendation? Do you like your Bernina? If so, which model do you have? Thank you! Laura
Hi Laura, I might not be the best person to ask about my Bernina. I know a lot of people who really love them. Mine is a 730 E embroidery machine ($6,000 cost). In it's first year it spent 4 months in the shop with a computer problem. It is also very "delicate" on what it likes to do!! I guess maybe I'm spoiled by using my OLD White sewing machine! I think the VERY best advice I could give you is to check with as many people as you can in your local area to find a shop gives good customer service. My original point of sale store was TERRIBLE and that added to my woes!! I do wish you the very best in your research and new machine.
VintageToNew Thank you, Cindy, for taking the time to write me back. Your response was very helpful. Eegats! $6,000! OK, that is definitely out of my price range! I am so sorry to hear that you had a computer problem with your sewing machine right after purchasing it. I was looking for a sewing machine to do some small-ish projects, but nothing where a $6,000 sewing machine could be justified (I wanted to spend less than $300). And now that Halloween is around the corner and I promised my daughter I would make her Halloween costume, I am in need of a sewing machine sooner rather than later. When looking at reviews on-line of sewing machines, I was surprised to see how many people really despise the Singer sewing machines. I learned to sew on a Singer and all of the women in my family swore by them. Evidently, according to many reviews, Singer has lost all of its cachet in the last 35 years. *humph* So which sewing machine company makes the best machines now? I am at a complete loss on what I should buy but thank you for your recommendation on finding a store that provides post-purchase support. I am still all ears if you have any brand recommendations. :-)
Laura DLC I understand. One idea to consider would be to seek out a used sewing machine. I have purchased a couple of them in the past few years. I love the older machines (60s-70s) and maybe even earlier. They don't have the bells and whistles like the new ones today, but then again they don't have all the fancy stuff to go wrong either. I have purchased them off from Ebay. If you decide to go this route check for sellers with good ratings, ones that know about sewing machines and have stated that the machine was serviced. If you get one that has not been serviced take it to the shop and have them tune it up and SHOW you how to thread it, how to install the bobbin, wind the bobbin etc. If I was going to spend under 500 a real workhorse of an older sewing machine is what I would pick. It is possible your local sewing center might have recently even taken one in trade lately and could recommend it to you. I wish you the best. Have fun making that costume!!! Oh, if you don't find one right away, maybe borrrow one for the costume so you don't feel pressure to purchase before you find just the right one.
Hi Deborah - Thank you for watching the video and I'm glad you liked it. It is one of my patterns you can find it here: www.etsy.com/listing/183286889/ruffle-bum-diaper-cover-pdf-sewing?ref=shop_home_active_1 . Wishing you - Happy Sewing - Cindy
Simply Betty Stamps If you have a serger: Upper & lower loopers set tension dials at 7, and set left & right needles at 3. Set your differential feed at 2.5 and stitch width at 1.5. Test on long scrap of fabric before using actual garment fabric. You should get a lovely ruffle to take to your regular sewing machine to attach to your garment - otherwise, use longest stitch on your sewing machine making two parallel rows of stitches WITHOUT backstitching them. Gently pull thread tails to create and distribute your pretty ruffled fabric and stitch end closed. Hope this helps!
Hi Lorena, Yes this pattern is on Etsy www.etsy.com/listing/183286889/ruffle-bum-diaper-cover-pdf-sewing?ref=shop_home_active_1 and you print it right from your home printer. Happy Sewing - Cindy
Hello I love your work. I wanted to know where do we get the measurements to start the pattern for the diaper cover? Is there two videos to this I might have missed the first one? My mom is wanting to make one for my daughter and I'd love for her to watch your video =) ty
Hi Rebecca - You can find the pattern over on Etsy www.etsy.com/listing/183286889/ruffle-bum-diaper-cover-pdf-sewing?ref=shop_home_active_1 . I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Happy Sewing - Cindy
Hi Sid, Thank you for watching. You can find the pattern here: vintagetonew.com/product/pdf-pattern-download-ruffle-bum-diaper-cover/ . Thank you for asking. Happy Sewing - Cindy
Hi Janey - You can purchase the pattern here: vintagetonew.com/product/pdf-pattern-download-ruffle-bum-diaper-cover/ . I would love to do a pinafore someday, but I don't have one right now. Happy Sewing
Thank you for your question. Yes the front and back are different. The back is larger than the front because you have it come up higher in the back and you need room for the bum and diapers. The ruffles are sewn on the back just as it shows in the video. You should cut the front and back both on the fold because there is no center front or back seam. I hope that is helpful. If you have further questions, please let me know. You can continue to leave messages here or contact me at vintagetonew@gmail.com . Happy Sewing - Cindy
+fitri irma susanti You can find it here: www.etsy.com/listing/183286889/ruffle-bum-diaper-cover-pdf-sewing?ref=shop_home_active_4 . Thank you for asking. Happy Sewing - cindy

Hi Angelica - Thank you for stopping by and leaving a message. Yes you purchase the pattern. This is how I make my living by designing patterns and teaching people how to make the item. It takes me a lot of time to design and draft the patterns and even more time to test them in all sizes (many times). Then I do the video. I hope you understand. Happy Sewing - Cindy

Hi, thank you for the great video.. are you able to make a quick video on how to do the gather stitch?
Vianchy Rosario See my reply below that I gave to Simply Betty Stamps. Hope this helps you out!
Do you have a video that shows how to do the gathering stitch to actually make the ruffle?

What is the standard measurement for a 0 to 3-month-old baby girl. Need help, please.

Bello... que malo q no lo entiendo .. lo pueden subtitular al epañol??
+I Lopez Lo siento mucho , pero yo no hablo español .
+VintageToNew ...gracias de todas maneras. . muy amable en responder en español. .bendiciones para usted..
Plz show how to cut this pattern plz explain in detail bcz front and back are different plz

What stitch u use for ruffles
Hi Janey - I use the longest stitch on my machine and then pull the bobbin thread to make the gathers. Hope that helps. Cindy

Thank you.
You have to buy the pattern!
