Every time Leo thanks us, I just cant help but look at my computer screen and say "No Leo, thank you". I don't think Leo knows how much he has done in the way of making us old sailors feel good about all the time we spent building, fixing and sailing ships and boats all around the world. So Thank you Leo, Thank you for caring about Tally Ho, it's like you actually care about us to.

The direction of the video is perfect - like Leo's entire work - a sense of shot, detail, environment. Romantic-nostalgic pictures and captivating music = 5 stars! But "we shipbuilders from the heart" are eagerly shaking for more work on his TallyHo and longing for every shot of his dexterous hands ... 😉

Watching these videos has been an island of joy in the midst of a struggle with cancer. In August they told me there was nothing more they could do so it seemed I would never see Tally Ho on the water. Now they have taken out a 7.5 kg tumour and they say I have a 50% chance of seeing another 5 years. So that day will come.

Any artist or craftsperson are fearful of the same things - As D'arcy says "...worried and upset that so many of our national treasures and maritime artifacts are going away" I suggest that many of our traditions are being lost... to time or apathy and that is disheartening... I am learning hand tool woodworking (one of the reasons I am so enthralled with Leo's channel and the team's talent) and find that we continually "re-discover" what the masters knew and simply took for granted would be passed-down through apprentices. I am guessing the same issues exists with boat builders and specifically wooden boat builders, there is a lack of interest and prospects to become apprentices in boat building, let alone if there are "true" masters out there to teach them or bring them under their wing...

'Too technical or boring'? Man, you're a master at making the most interesting video's! All's explained well, accompanied by drawings or images, if needed. If I were a teacher at a school for boat-building, I would make this series study material for my students for gaining extra points. I could give more praise (and I probably will do in the near future) but hearing you say what I just quoted made me comment right now.

Last night, a few drunken guests of my neighbours took and destroyed one of my plants, at which I caught them red handed but too late to save my plant (a Passiflora mollissima that I grew from seed). As it is impossible to put a price tag to the specimen (they are not sold as plants in the Netherlands), it's quite hard to determine the amount of money that would compensate my loss. In stead, I asked them to donate a reasonable amount of money to the restoration of Tally Ho.

I spent a number of years sailing on Martha’s sister, she was named Lady Ada and was owned by a man named Eddie Weinberg (now deceased) he owned three schooners and we sailed them as a charter company in Southern California. I’ve been privileged to sail a number of schooners in my life (over 20) but Lady used to always have a surprise for me, a very lovely boat to sail. Now my PNW life has led me to power boats (as a matter of fact the lobster boat shown at 8:17 in this video is mine) but I still love wooden sailboats the most.

    What an amazing project.
I started carving a couple things with the live oak cutoff I bought from Leo last year. I laid out of the ~2' X 3' slab for two mallets & handles and 3 different size fids.
The end of the slab had some interesting grain and only a few inches of splitting in the whole piece. I'm going to try to make a guitar wall hanger from the last bit of it.
I think I'll have enough left to try carving a small model. But it's impressive how dense the wood is, lots of sharpening for a few cuts. It's an honour to own some of the material.

Thanks for giving us an extra episode. The music and videography are well corigraphed.
It was nice that you were able to get your sea legs back under you. Too bad the weather didn't cooperate.
Martha looks like she is a well loved vessel. May she continue her voyages into the next century.

Schooner Martha is amazing. What an elegant and beautiful piece of vintage historical maritime treasure. Sailing on her sure must have been a nice weekend treat. Fascinating to learn how the deck planks are laid out. What a great channel and fantastic community. Thanks for sharing Leo and keep up the great work!

Hi Leo,I used to work as a marine fitter on wooden Grimsby Seine net fishing boats and I was used to working on the same vessels with shipwrights,so I have seen steaming and caulking many times, but it wasn’t until I started watching your channel (from the beginning)that I truly appreciated the art of wooden boat design and construction..Thanks to yourself and all of the people who made it possible👏👏👏..I am currently watching Finn doing a rebuild on Knott finished yet cheers Roly 🇬🇧.

Each episode seems more important than the last. I know that this isn't true as we are BUILDING a dream but the odds seem to narrow with each solved situation.
As for the individual who said that they had watched this project for long enough and were ready to see her underway, I don't feel that you appreciate the nearly unprecedented fortune to which you are witness. We all anticpate the launch but the more astute realize how amazing it is to have a Master explain every detail of this construction as it occurs. With the obvious exception of "A to A" on the east coast, this enchanted process has never, to my knowledge, been catalogued so thoroughly and by such immaculate professionals. As much as I want to see Tally Ho underway I savor each episode and each new problem sussed through by Leo and the boys and try my best to learn what this Master Shipright/Architect/Sailor has been kind enough to document for us. Thanks to ALL of you, I have been blessed with an education that I couldn't have Imagined three years ago.

Yippee ki yay Leo! Your description was spot on. It feels so "right" to see you at this point in the build, so glad you chose to go with the traditional style decking as found on the original Tally Ho. Super!

There will be drips at some point in the future, but it'll just be one of those very long list of general maintenance jobs! Tally Ho will always have.

Wow, it’s so amazing to see the deck planking starting. I’m glad you have the resources to do it traditionally. Don’t worry about it being too technical, you’ve got the perfect balance-of course we all would be happy for more! With your editing skills and music choices, you could probably read from a phone book and it wouldn’t be boring.

This is such excellent content, after each vid you post, I always think they are WAY too short. I understand the logistics of shooting, editing, uploading, etc etc, which would take more time away from keeping your hands dirty. I sure do love the way it is coming together!! Stay safe, keep the finger count where it belongs, and keep on boating. Yeah.

With some background in both engineering and construction (neither in nautical mind you) I followed you rather well, after watching the previous work and a few other channels as well. I can hardly wait to see it transformed into actual woodworking with you and your crew of busy beavers.
Loved the look at the Martha as well. I agree that too much nautical history has been lost to upgrades in technology. Yeah, newer "better" ways have "improved" the speed at which boats have been turned out of the docks as far as production goes, and have allowed those with less instincts/knowledge to earn a living at sea with electronic finders to locate their hauls. But the boats/vessels are much less romantic to look at too. They don't bring a sense of feeling that the old wooden boats with care of craftsmanship did and still do if well maintained and cared for.
Martha is still a beautiful lady 114 years later.
