Agree with some of the other comments. Having tried on all three, the Alpine Eagle was the nicest of them all on the wrist. I was offered a great deal at their boutique too.
The aqua dial wins it for the IWC in my opinion. The overall finish on the GP may well be better, but not so much better to base my preference on. The detail on the IWC dial, with the dots Vs lines pattern, is unique and aesthetically stunning. The parallel lines around the edge is a lovely touch, and a dedication to detail that's nice to see. The indices look like they almost 'float'' above the dial, only anchored to the 'race track' around the edge, they really 'pop', making it a very legible dial (practical and beautiful in equal measures). And the colour.............WOW!!! Petrol (not petrel) in some light, then blue, then green, then turquoise! You can see a different colour every time you check your wrist! I love this watch, could've had either, but too similar to have both (not too mention too expensive), so I chose the IWC. I'm very much in the minority here I see, I just felt I should defend the IWC a little 🙂 However, if you're a fan of either of either of these watches, then I congratulate you on your impeccable taste. And if you own one, then I hope you enjoy wearing it as much as I do mine ❤
If GP re-release the Laureato 38mm in blue or black, I pick the GP over the IWC anytime. The IWC Val Fleurier movement is used in Baume & Mercier Clifton and you can buy it for just $3000.
I have both exact versions as shown - Love them both. I bought Laureato in Germany 4 years ago with a 33% discount so have not been affected by the price drop that watch gives you the second you have bought it from an AD. The IWC I bought from the AD last year - the customer service has been great with IWC - so much so that I have ben invited by IWC as a guest for the F1 in Zandvoort this year. I have to say you & I have a very similar watch path in terms of purchases etc. Greetings from the Netherlands!
Damn, in NYC, I think you’d have to buy every model in the boutique to even be on the long list of people they might one day consider giving F1 tickets to, and even that might not be enough. I know at Omega on 5th Ave, until you drop around $200k, you aren’t a particularly appreciated customer (which is wild considering that’s like 20 pieces unless you buy super high end ones)
I just looked on Chrono24 this week for both, new/unworn, with box and papers. In the U.S., the price of the Ingenieur vs the GP makes the former a ridiculous choice, unless you really love it, of course. If the IWC had a display case back and got rid of the crown guards, the price might be acceptable, but as-is, the GP makes more sense, from AD, grey market, or 2nd hand. Also, you note the GP market price has dropped a lot but the IWC hasn’t, but I think you’re missing the word “yet.” There is zero chance the Ingenieur price doesn’t drop another 10%+ in the next 12-24 months.
Follow-up: a dealer on eBay offered me a blue dial IWC for just under $10k. At $10k, the Ingenieur makes a lot more sense than the Laureato at say $11.5k, but it’s close enough there to be a matter of personal preference, unless you’re already stretching your budget.
And i want also to add that the GP comes at 34, 38, 42 & 44, while the ingenieur only comes at 40 ! So regarding the dimensions, i think you got more flexibility with the GP.
Hey, would love for you to do a video on watches that you would love to have/are targeting during the next few years, attainable as well as grails. Thank you and love the channel.
The GP never really spoke to me. I tried on the Ingenieur Aqua yesterday though and loved it. I do think it’s on the pricey side for what it offers but thankfully I can get a good discount. I don’t keep my watches long enough to justify it though, I’d still lose too much for my liking.
IWC by far for me. I was really disappointed with the Laureato fit in person, the IWC proportions are much better, I also find the Ingineaur dial more interesting in person. As for the movement, the 120 power reserve is far more functionally useful vs the superbly finished open caseback of the GP.
Had the same exact GP and I sold it in the end because I felt it wore a tad too big and it either wore a tad tight or too loose. Couldn’t get that exact fit I wanted. I still think about that watch. Would love if GP brought out a 40/41mm model. Would be an instant buy for me.
I recently had the opportunity to hold the Ingeneur in my hands alongside the Laureato, albeit the chronograph. I had actually never seen a Girard Perregaux in person before. I had hardly paid any attention to the Ingeneur, I was so impressed by the quality of the Laueato. There is not much to compare them to, the Laureato is clearly the higher quality watch. I can see it at a price like the Ingeneur currently costs. But I wouldn't spend more than €7500 on the Ingeneur.
The Ingeniuer was originally designed by Genta, the Laureato on the other hand, has no designer to its name, which is a pity for a brand to not be able to attribute to a beautiful design that. was undoubtedly inspired by Genta.
I’m actually considering which watch should i pick for this category of sport watch from GP, AP, Zenith, IWC and Chopard. I think GP might be the best of all worlds from high horology, design, wearability and price, but its hard to justify because its an all-arounder and not just standout great at any one thing.
On a 6.5” wrist, it’s on the limit. In my 7.5” wrist, think it would be just about perfect. Important to think different things work for different people
The Ingenieur felt very lightweight, as if the links were hollow. The brushed surface on the top of the case did not seem entirely flat. The GP is a cut above. - Yes, more environmentally friendly packaging is fine, but Breitling went too far. They used to have a leather travel case in a cardboard box. Now it’s a weird affair made from recycled plastic bottles. It does not feel upmarket at all. There should be a tiered system so when spending over £7k you get something else.
They look big, and polished links is not my thing. VC Overseas blue Moonphase Retrograde Date is a nicer dream, but too expensive and I'm sure the reset of such a watch is a pain
I love the IWC, except the price. For that money if I buy a Grand Seiko I am getting their top movements. The IWC I am paying a lot for a better bracelet and a Genta design compared to a MkXX.
@@bdegrdssame, I felt no sharp edges on the IWC when I tried it on in Vegas. It wore more comfortably than the Laureato I tried on actually. The fact that the Ingenieur can opt to place their microadjust clasp that the pilots use, just further improves its wearability.
Much prefer the GP, I have the Laureato Absolute chronograph in all black, it’s a stunning watch. IWC’s are a bit too Teutonic for my taste…GP are claaaassss!
Have handled both few times and have come disappointed each time with the GP. The bracelet and case finishing is not upto the make of Alpine Eagle (my choice in this price category). It trumps AE in movement finishing but everything else, AE is the winner. Here, only edge GP has over the IWC is the movement finishing. IWC comes ahead in wearability, more interesting dial to look at, and slightly cheaper retail pricing. I don’t feel too much of a difference between case and bracelet finishing. If anything, I prefer IWC. My choice will be Alpine Eagle followed by IWC between the $10-$15k price range. That’s my opinion only.
Thank you for a thorough review. I have the Laureato, so I’m absolutely biased, but the subjective thing I really dislike about the new Ingénieur is the fake screws/rivets on the bezel. They look too small are obviously are not functional. Their spacing seems off to me as well, which is probably why I find them too small. I greatly prefer the last Ingénieur’s design. Thank you again!
You might find it astonishing, but the screws on the bezel of the IWC Ingenieur are in fact used to hold the case together. So, they are indeed (very) functional.
you're cherry picking. The fast remove section, even if scratched, doesnt matter. On wrist you would never in your life ever see the blemeshes, and anyone who can buy an 11k watch I'm sure is competent enough to size their watch without scuff.
Tried both of them. There is nothing from high horology in GP. The finishing of the caliber is simple, the bracelet feels cheap and the design is just a copy of AP.
Why do steel sports watches need gloves to handle them? Love both watches and like you videos but I hate gloves on watch videos, very pretentious. Happy for your purchases though very nice choices.
Not pretentious. It keeps the watches looking clean while handling during filming. Also I'd rather see gloves in close up shots than somebody's nails and fingers.
Both IWC & GP are adequate watches with integrated bracelets iterations. Neither movement is robust or exceptionally finished but GP is certainly superior. I’ve owned numerous IWC timepieces including various BP, aquatimers etc…but they have been disappointing recently. GP is the better watch
Yikes, I really do not like that GP dial when you showed up-close. The cut around the date window has jagged edges. They coulnd't be asked to put a frame around the cut out so you don't see the unfinished edges? The indices and hands are so flat that they look kind of lifeless and dare I say cheap. No beveling or dimension of any kind, it looks like they're just plopped right on the dial straight out of the milling machine. For what it's worth at least on the dial side, the IWC is far better in terms of finishing.
@@koolpep I have not seen the GP in person so I may be totally wrong and I’m open to that possibility! Just conveying what I saw in the video. I’d love to get some time with one and look at it up close myself
I was always wondering who buys these things at retail. Now I know... Why would you do that to to yourself dude? BTW, that laureato is too big for your wrist
Royal oak and Ingenieur are both genta creations, by definition not possible for either to be a copy. Is a person only supposed to want Picassos first work and nothing else?
Chopard alpine eagle is the best in my opinion,
Superb dial and mouvement
Takes the deal for me
The bracelet is the weak point of that watch. It has almost no taper.
I don't like the Roman numbers
Alpine Eagle is technically better but the Ingenieur has overall better wearability especially since I have a 6.25” wrist

IWC for me 😊

GP. Vastly underrated time pieces. The finish is outstanding as is the history

My personal choice between those ones the GP. Good vidéo Idea why not make another one
When using tool for resizing, use a piece of clear PVC bag. It won't scratch.
