If you search You Tube long enough you find a gem and this video is a gem. Having sold all my Nikon gear as I cant carry the weight anymore, I have bought the Sony RX10 iv, so this video is priceless. Thank you Richard
I'm pondering the same thing for convenience and it looks a cracking camera except for low light performance (small sensor ) and short battery life but i think the pros outweigh the cons.Would you recommend it Martin ? Seen it today for £1279 !

Dear Richard, Thanks for sharing this wonderful tutorial. It has improved my understanding of RX10. Like to see more tutorials on RX 10Iv from you. Regards
Hi Richard, just wish to express my sincere thanks for what in my opinion is one of the best short explanations of preparing the RX10 for bird photography I have watched via "You Tube", your enthusiasm and communication skills are second to none. Many thanks for your short post edit production using Lightroom, I gained a lot from it.best regards Steve
This has to be one of the best general bird photography tutorials combined with being perfect for the RX10 camera. Mine is a Mk iii but just about all the settings you went through apply. I've had the camera about six weeks now and so far have been winging it. It's 5:30 pm UK time and the sun has just come out, so I'm off to the local park to try the new settings I have put in following your tutorial. Many thanks Richard.
Thank you for this excellent, clear, motivating and beautifully presented video. It was the first video I used after unboxing my RX10iv and has really kick started for me a real love for my camera and shooting birds. I learned a lot and found your video essential to developing my understanding of my camera's features and my introduction to digital photography. More please! Thank you.
Absolutely brilliant presentation. I'm thinking of buying this camera for bird photography. You've made it so clear as to the best settings to use, as well as tips in taking pictures themselves. Thank you!
Very useful video. Thanks Richard. I've had that camera for about a year. It's my weekly camera. I'll be taking it out to Alberta next month along with the Sony a7iii. One thing I find difficult with the RX10 Mk iv is shooting in low light. I'll take both cameras and that way if I find some bears I'll have the flexibility and not the inconvenience of lugging around four lenses. The a7iii I'll use at night and the RX 10 in the daytime. M
@@SaraHajny I'm really trying to understand the focus system .. my brain just explodes lol ... if you want check out my IG Gothic serpant photos .. I'd love to see your photos :)

Hi Richard- Great video. The best I've seen on this camera.I've owned it for a couple years. It's great for birding, extremely versatile. Excellent picture quality.
Awesome video! You have excellent speaking abilities. I shoot Olympus OMD for my wildlife and BIF. I am bidding on the Sony RX10 IV because it looks like a bunch of fun! Cheers!
Excellent video Richard. Just a bit confused with the White Balance settings. You suggested "daylight" and then later suggested AWB. You have both these when using the Fn key but I somehow only get one option in my set-up. Your help would be appreciated, thanks.
Great! I just took the financial plunge after finding a good deal online, and found some of this very useful! I didn't know you could change the size of you're spot for auto focus, which is key to making this usable for birds. I'm thinking that this alone, plus judicious use of the exposure compensation dial and continuous shooting should get you quite far under normal daylight situations.
When you don't want a picture of the bird directly on the feeder you can put a branch or cutting with blooms clipped to something close to the feeder. Birds will land there before going to the feeder often and you can get shots there.
Hi, found the camera section very useful, thank you. The music would be better omitted, especially for those who have less than good hearing. But the explanations and screen shots were ideal.
A very thorough, enjoyable, and informative clip. I got a fair bit out of it. The editing tips were very much appreciated. One thing I noticed is the tripod you use is very similar to my (aluminium) travel tripod. When I used this during my travels in America I found that the weight of the RX1- on the top of the extended central column was a bit prone to vibration effects that harmed the image quality. The ball head also struggled a little with the weight of the camera too. I replaced it with a sturdier, carbon fibre unit that is utterly delightful and very, very solid. The weight gain over my previous tripod is about 100 grams.
Hi Richard, I have had RX10 cameras since the introduction ( I think the first one was 24-200 with f/2.8 through out the lens am I correct) I had them all!! Looks like Sony forgotten us and has not brought new ones out. I like to thank you for offering this excellent tutorial like no other you tube has ever done in this subject. take care
Dear Richard, I got my RX10M4 in Jan, 2021, and has been shooting birds ever since. I rarely got good shots out of hundreds and thousands shots I took, which is frustrating. My friends and other bird watchers are using different cameras, it's hard to get useful tips on how, what, why. This video is the most helpful one so far, it covers not only the shooting part, but also the post-production! Now I know why the format needs to be RAW. Do you have other bird photography videos that I can refer to? Thank you so so much!!
What a wonderful tutorial. As a complete newbie, is it better if I use Program mode, to begin with? A bit confused as to which focus, I should use. I shoot birds in the field that move fast.
This video anchored my resolve to purchase the RX10 once it is refreshed to the Mk V. I am devastated by the current rumour that the RX10 will go out of production this year with no future plans, I’m super disappointed by this as there has been no forward motion in the RX line for many years now.
Sony won’t update this camera because it’s already too good. 7 years old and it still blows away virtually everything else. Great tutorial btw, thanks.
I need a camera with a 600mm range, but I've only recently found out about the Sony Rx M4 camera! In your opinion should I get the Sony Rxm4 or the Sigma 150-600? Use is to make funny youtube videos with hidden camera. Quality and Bokeh are essential.... So which one should I choose?
Thank you! So happy I came across this video since I have talked my niece into buying the RX10 iv to photograph birds in her backyard. She is a digital neophyte and you have explained things in a very clear manner. I have one question: Why do you keep referring to 19% gray when everything I've ever read about photography talks about 18% gray?
After watching this excellent video, I changed my focus setting from spot to flexible spot, when I switch modes from S to M, for example, I lose the flexible ability and need to reset focal point to flexible spot. Is there any way to avoid that? Thank you.
Can't wait for the RX10 V. Could there even be, remarkable sharpness for such an all in one lens design, with weatherproofing. Maybe a 24 - 1000. Much newer generation sensor tech Better low light performance, longer reach, higher frame rate quality . 24-800 lens would be great.
@@cow77cow Lol 24 fps is normal cinematic video. 30 fps and 50/60 fps is great. This camera can actually shoot 120 fps 1080p video. So great slow motion with normal video recording when slowed down. Higher frame rate would be a plus for slow motion. But what they really need to do is upgrade the sensor to the newest current technology available sony sensors that they make. 1 inch sensor is fine especially with the newest tech sensor releases they can use in the new model. And better low light performance with new sensors and updated image signal processors etc. 1 inch sensor will also keep the overall Lens Barrel in friendly to use size as the current model is amazing. Just a bit more reach tele photo end would be great with the same F4 Aperture.

If you are making a video titled 'Bird Photography' make sure to include ample bird photos under different conditions such as low light, high ISO, high frame rate , Sony's famed eye detection autofocus etc. If you want to talk about camera basics such as flash mode or white balance or picture profile, don't mislead your audience for a clickbait... No one purchases a RX 10 Mark IV to take videos all day long, nor do they want to see video samples or RAW editing techniques in a camera review titled 'Bird Photography''
I do like this camera a lot. Just disappointed in the flimsy plastic construction for the price. Sony could take a page out of pentax's playbook on build quality.
I dont apriciate these shots , sharpness is good , colors and color separation isn't cool , overall images are dull no soul to them , i just dont dig it , its expensive camera with all kinds of features that i can all do without and get better bird pictures , say Tair 3 and Canon 5D classic , do a comparison , its no contest , and you can get 5 of those for one Sony .
Instead of taking pics in yer garden why not prove the camera's ability by going out in the wild .. because this video doesn't really prove anything of the camera's positives and negatives because you are taking pics in a staged setting .. you're spending more time altering/tweaking the pics . If the Camera was worth the price point you really shouldn't need to tweak/alter pics . TBH I wouldn't waste my time taking pics of a bird feeder .. there is no challenge , It's more of a challenge to capture wilds birds in there natural enviroment . Because you don't have the time to faff about with the settings because speed is everything . Longer you fanny about with the settings your subject will do a bolter . Try Capturing a Swallow / Housemartin or even a bat in flight . you will struggle .
