- Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa has revealed his department’s desire to dissolve dysfunctional and underperforming municipalities and put them up for re-election. He also added that residents can't afford to wait until 2026 for the election of new political leadership.
The minister speaks to Newzroom Afrika's Naledi Moleo about his Plan of Action.

Good response to our incompetent municipal management.
Yes is time to work now
What irritates me so much is that now suddenly the ANC wakes up and wants service delivery. Why does it have to get to this, where the ANC itself fractures and births MK, which has now forced the hand because of losing that outright majority. So if Zuma didn't go off and form the splinter organization, it would just be more of the same business and looting as usual.
At this point, the election result for the first time might actually result in something being done about crime and corruption.
Yes!!! And stop the corruption please!!!!!
Cogta is now under right hands
It looks 👌 like this GNU is going to work
Shame
Why is he avoiding the question around top 5 troublesome municipalities? He is accountable to the public and we have the pull right to know
Well done Minuster❤
The ANC previous minister, Thembi Nkadimeng, was sleeping on duty and scared to take action against her comrades
Rule with iron fist please
I hope he wake up and do his job seriously!
Why have you not posed the same questions to the previous minister???!!!!
And now she asked the new minister what groundwork he has done since he became minister? Is this news reporter for real???!!!
He should start with Ethekwini Municipality
He has started with that, or rather the KZN COGTA MEC has started.
Mogalakwena municipality in Mokopane is also dysfunctional it need to be dissolved
This guy is more concerned about never ending engagements with incompetent municipalities instead of moving fast & getting things done
I think the Minister is too soft for this portfolio he lacks energy to be practically on the ground where real issues lies...he must learn from Panyaza Lesufi, Gayton McKenzie and Phophi Ramathuba on how the work is done! Not this Poems his always doing in interviews!
Mfwethu, please don't be fooled by politicians running around pretending to be busy and take that as them actually doing something meaningful. Panyaza perfected that art of looking busy while doing no meaningful work on the ground. They all do that nonsense but once they leave "the ground", they do absolutely nothing.
Having a polite tone does not necessary mean one is soft in a sense that he cannot take decisive decisions. The Minister is polite and sensible, but firm and responsible.
This response is pathetic
Naledi you need to go. You speak up for criminals
Can’t even speak? Sure it’s his idea? 😂😂
