I had one of those as a kid. My dad bought it for me. I remember how that bag felt... the smell of the bands, the smoothness of that odd trigger. It was the coolest thing in the world back then.
I had one and I bought it from Abercrombie & Fitch at a local mall in Connecticut. My son and I had a blast with it, not to mention that it is absolutely deadly on flies and even bees that might wander into the house! I'd love to pick up another one as I don't know what happened to the original....
Wayne Smith was the founder. His father co-founded Smith & Loveless in Overland Park, KS. The Rabaser (ray-base-er) sold through Hammacher-Schlemmer back in the day.
I have one, I was one of the foolish people who spent $60+tax. What a well balanced fun gun to shoot the flys off the wall. The glue that held the silicone tubing to the plastic piece wasn’t very good, wasn’t flexible enough to stay glued. And you are right about the bag, mine is disintegrating in places too. Very nice feeling gun got mine from B. N. Genius store.
The Rabaser was an excellent training tool for self defense. What other gun could you use for actual person to person gun fights? With the use of good eye protection, the Rabaser couldnt hurt you beyond a painful sting. The bands traveled at 175 fps but only had a range of around 90'. It could kill a rat at 10' but wouldn't break at window at point blank range. The survivalist would use them in realistic gunfights or intruder/ defender home training. The worlds most powerful pistol that was safe and legal to shoot just about anywhere.
I read your name I am thinking you may be the inventor and maker? Tip my hat to you sir!! I treasure mine and now have bought two more for my grandsons. I make my own ammo that I can alter the strength to match the user.
The tubing wasn't silicone but custom florescent red-orange surgical tubing. The most effective elastimer in the world. The rod that held them together was made from a polyurethane elastimer. The adhesive that bonded them was a special, impact resistant, cyanoacrylate that cost over $350 lb. in today's dollars. Each Baser band was hand-made and had a centering mark for accurate loading. It took 12 # of pull to cock the pistol. Each band could be shot over a hundred times. They even floated on the water for easy retrieval. A self-propelled, reusable projectile.

If you can hit flies that is serious talent.

Nice, thanks for sharing that story. I've never came across anyone who had purchased one when they were in stores.
@@showmeyourstuff9518 Got mine brand new since I drove past their Overland Park Kansas shop everyday. Then when the ammo broke had to make my own.

And it's a work of art.

Is the Rabaser ammo (silicone tubing) available anywhere?
Not that I'm aware. It has to be made by buying the silicon tubing and gluing the parts together.

I just posted how I make my own
Dang, that's a money
Lol, but why is it used as self-defense 😂
Yeah agreed. It might scare a cat or bird, but that is about it when it comes to self defense.
