Caught up with Peter Mel as he talks about Ocean Safety 🏄♂️ Recorded October 10, 2024. This was an introduction for the Safety Summit held in October 23, 2024 🛟
I hate sunscreen. So i began wearing a hat instead. Sunscreen helps. i get it. -- One time i rescued a swimmer. All i did was push my surfboard to him, being a flotation device. i told him to put on the leash, and don't let go of it. Then i swam to shore. The waves were small, at most head high, but the currents were a little weird and that was part of the problem. Later on the sand, he told me he cramped up, and couldn't swim anymore.
There's another school of thought about the sunscreens... Hats work - and don't contain carcinogenic chemicals... So you build up a basecoat, and then don't bake intentionally. Live and eat healthy, and the C-word will avoid you ... If you roll those dice and things don't go as well as you would've hoped - try SourSop/Guanabana - which they won't tell you about, because you can't patent a fruit. And you might ask a horse if it has some extra paste, there's some evidence that it could have some benefits, too. And of course, take a melon-baller to the irregular mole, in question. It sounds like you managed to save a life. Good on ya' mate. 😊
I live on Oahu's Waianae Coast and been ocean swimming here many years. Used to get foot cramps after 1/2 mile or so. Eventually I discovered the simple source of my problem: I was chronically low on electrolytes! I used to surf here too, but finally quit, due to crowds. None of that ego-stress competition thing with swimming, and it's a more well-rounded form of exercise anyway!
Pete, recommend the industry the use of drones for equipment delivery based on the situation, a lifesaver, a new board in a contest to replace a broken one, shark monitoring of course and a ton of other real world scenarios and congrats for all your work in the industry, cheers 🍻
Yeah...based upon Models... But if models were always right - we'd already be under water, and dead from the 'rona... Everyone TALKS about the weather...but nobody ever DOES ANYTHING about it...- Except for the ENMOD guys in the Military... (Look it up).

At 3:00 "you gotta keep showing up." That's my philosophy with my church attendance.
"Look at The Condor"
Sea level along the U.S. coastline is expected to rise, on average, 10 - 12 inches in the next 30 years

I'm not really scared about it.
