  • This video is about Jim Brower's epic audiophile home. This is his first system, or what he calls his "chill out" system. He made it during his high school/college days and is the appetizer of what is to come in the next videos.
Some of the equipment included in this stack...
    Proceed BPA-2 Stereo Power Amplifier
Proceed AVP-2 Proceed AVP-2 Processor Preamplifier
N-30 Audiophile Networked Audio Player Featuring AirPlay and DLNA 1.5
Furman IT-Reference 15i 11-Outlet Discrete Symmetrical AC Power Source

    Ohm Walsh 2

Want to record videos like this without spending a small fortune?
Check out this list of equipment below.
    Camera
    Sony ZV-E10 II APS-C $1,099
    amzn.to/4630Hzc
One of the best, if not the best vlogger friendly and livestream camera right now for this style of content.
Think of it as a smartphone on steroids. This is a solid pick if you don't want to spend thousands for the other cameras you see featured on my channel.
    Mics
    DJI Mic 2
    amzn.to/3Y1boQM
Best and excellent mic system that I use that allows the ability to have two people heard. Very simple and easy to set up and put on people. Great range, amazing quality, and awesome charging case with USB-C
    Mic Adapter
    Sony DJI Mic 2 Adapter
    amzn.to/463lZwA
An adapter needed because of Sony's proprietary MI shoe. Needed only if you dislike using a 3.5mm aux cable for audio capture or if you're allergic to unbalanced audio.
    SD Card
    128gb Sandisk V90 SD Card
    amzn.to/3Y2UnFT
Best style card for the type of camera mentioned above. Allows you to maximize the recording capability of the camera.
    Tripod
    Benro Slim Video Kit
    amzn.to/3Rl3LPl
This is a great brand, if you have one already you can skip this. However, everyone should own a fluid head video tripod of some kind for smooth pans, tilts, and general stabilization. I'm not a fan of gimbals, so you won't get a recommendation for one from me.

I had the Ohm Walsh 2 when they came out. I used them off and on over 30 years. Unfortunately the glue used for the internal braces fails and they fall off. I noticed this when I was moving them around. There was something rattling. It is a common issue and difficult to get your hands and arms in the box to repair. Otherwise they were still working. These used a cloth surround so no failed foam or rubber surround. Best to get the Ohm upgrade kit for these if you have them.

There is no stopping this "addiction" I have Mirage OM series full tower setup in basement, OHM and Mirage(for surround) in my bedroom, Elac Unifi in spare room, and Axiom in my living room(never liked them). The one thing you do not realize with the OHM is the powerful bass these little speakers put out. Once you get that 3-D sound, direct speakers seem lifeless.

I have a pair of Ohm 2’s and a pair of omh 1’s doing the surround duty. All og. No upgrades and they sound awesome. Immovable imaging and I do not need a center channel. Pair of klipsch subs doing the heavy lifting for the booms. I adore my set up.

      @honestaquarian1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@Sly foxxx YES! These are not loudspeakers which will allow you to place them acording to your room. The opposite is the case, because they mu st be placed with some room to breathe in order to work properly. Once set up right, they SING!

I have a question or two if you have time . One I have the Proceed AVP and have never used it , so I have two Crown 1500 watt amps . The AVP has balanced out's and only RCA outs for the sub out . The Crown amps have both but require 2.0 V input for both . Am I going to be able to use the balanced outputs for the front speakers and the RCA for the sub and RCA for center and rear or will I have to use RCA for everything and will I be able to drive the Crown amps with the RCA from the AVP ? I hope all of this make sense .

Ohm offers an upgrade kit to turn their older model Walsh 2 (which dates back to 1982) into a Walsh 2000. They call it a Super Walsh 2.2000. I created a three part series of videos about my experience with the upgrade. In Part 1, I discuss the history of the Wash speakers. In Part 2 I demonstrate the installation of the upgrade. And in part 3, I review the sound of the upgraded speaker and compare it to a Kipsch Forte, B&W 802 and KLH Model Six with recordings and measurements. The series can be found here: th-cam.com/play/PLCH_MMh8A6cFe1q9ZpPJ18h5raiGZ9DZD.html

good informative video... I am jealous of his collection. Would it be possible for you to let me know if he upgraded the Ohm speakers with the 2.2000 kit? Also, what is he using as a base for those speakers, I see something under them? Thanks in advance..

Jim Brower: “They were upgraded 12 years ago with 3rd or 4th generation tops which included complete new drivers and a updated crossover. I don’t remember the name of the upgrade. The upgrade then was about $600.00 which was what I paid for speakers in 1982. The new upgrade is much more expensive. I believe around $1000.00 last time I looked on the Ohm website. The bases are from my Sonus Faber Guarneri Homages. The original stands and bases were too high so I got after market bases that lowered the speaker to what I felt was the correct height. The Ohm’s where too low for my 6’ 3” height so I took the
SF bases to raise the Ohms 2” and then lower the SF’s by 6” with the aftermarket stands and granite bases that I got from CT Stone. I forgot to add that I Refinished them 12 years ago with the new tops. I sanded them down and re stained them with light oak stain. So they look new for 37 years.”

The comment about if you can lift the amp with 1 finger it's bargain basement while generally true there are exceptions to the rule. The exceptions are vintage Carver magnetic field coil amplifiers and the newer Sunfire amplifiers with it's tracking down converter power supply . Their unique and innovative designs make them both much lighter with the ability to deliver much more current than designs with a conventional heavy linear power supplies costing twice as much.(look up some old reviews) I was driving my Walsh 2's with a Kenwood monster receiver the Super Eleven with fantastic specs and 120 watts/ch but the speakers did not sound as good as they did at Tech-HiFi. I then got a used Carver MXR130 receiver with 130 watts/ch .My speakers came to life with tighter bass and realism, also I heard things (fine detail like a musician taking a breath ) that I never Knew were on the record or CD. More recently I got a used Sunfire Ultimate receiver 200watts X7 and my old Walsh 2's sounded even better. Here is one of Bob Carver's First Carver brand amplifiers www.hifinews.com/content/carver-m-400-cube note it's small size ,light weight and it's power. Here is his best solid state design stereotimes.com/amp010500.shtml and my receiver www.soundandvision.com/content/sunfire-ultimate-ii-av-receiver

    • @leekumiega9268
      @leekumiega9268 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Years before Class D was Bob Carver with his magnetic field coil amplifiers and later his Sunfire amps with his Tracking down converter power supply ,it's Class A-B with class D efficiency. Both designs are extremely light for the amount of high current power they deliver. The Sunfire unlike most class D can drive very low impedance speakers stereotimes.com/amp010500.shtml

Yes the true omnidirectional Ohm Walsh F is almost 50 years old and was at the time called the best speaker at any price. It was so good that HHR exotics now makes a identical looking version called the TLS-1 but with over 50 improvements for a longer life and even better sound.www.hhr-exoticspeakers.com/
