Yes it's funny to mock him but honestly if you're not either really determined, great at studying by yourself, or forced to, it's very hard to learn a language without school. Just learning grammar once in a while with nothing else takes you nowhere. So the fact that Ollie can understand and get his point across with single or two word sentances is much better from where they started. Gabie and Josh have been studying languages their whole lives, and always lived in a place that speaks the language. They both speak at least three languages almost fluently, so it's like a polar opposite rather than something realistic to compare to. Many people sit at weekly language lessons at school for years and still can only introduce themselves.

encouragement for ollie: 8 months ago when this was first released i had to rely on the subs, now i got through the whole video basically understanding almost everything. we're all improving with time!! i honestly wouldn't have been able to do that without constantly watching jolly & korean englishman among many other korean content. you're honestly already better than me; in two years of self study i've only just learned how to comfortably read & write hangeul while you're out there alone in korea and surviving. i could never lmao

I’m learning korean and I can understand a lot more but when it comes to replying in a grammatically correct sentence or knowing the right vocab words it’s when I struggle. The amount of content you can absorb makes understanding easier
I am actually impressed by Ollie. I learned Spanish, but that is such an easy language to learn because of its many similarities. Korean is so different than English that they are not even in the same language family. Usually when you learn a foreign language, you notice similarities, and the closer it is to your language, the easier it is to learn it. Not only Ollie had to learn from scratch, he is also dyslexic, which makes it so much harder.
Tbh I was actually really impressed with Ollie's korean skills here. I mean: he was able to do a conversation and understood everything quite well. This actually really motivated me to keep practicing!
You need to have a “Korean only” day at the office like once a month for Ollie. Then take him to Korea for “Korea only” day & film that! Yay, Ollie!! You did such a good job 👍
It really helps improve your speaking skills if you're forced to do something like that. It's actually really great. Even if Ollie makes mistakes Josh and other people just correct him and he can learn this way. Also, no one judges him and just keeps encouraging him and so it's not even scary to make mistakes in such environment. I wish I could talk and practise my Korean like that as well.

When the root of your second language is not similar to your native, it gets a bit tricky. However, I can say for certain that learning Korean is way much easier than Mandarin for English speakers because you don't have the problem with tones. In Mandarin, one wrong tone could change the word to something else completely.
I can't really say much.. I speak 4 lenguages, which are different.. I'm used to languages.. but the 2nd lenguage is always the hardest, cus you're still figuring out how to deal with languages and learning..
@Anastasia harder Learn the basic (my name is.., age, I'm from..etc) before gramma. Whe you know those, start with easy verb in present and the persons (eg. I go, you go,..., I eat..., sleep, drink, talk, see, etc.). Try to figure out how to build the present tense with the first words and apply the rules to other words.. 😊.. which language are you learning??

It really helps improve your speaking skills if you're forced to do something like that. It's actually really great. Even if Ollie makes mistakes Josh and other people just correct him and he can learn this way. Also, no one judges him and just keeps encouraging him and so it's not even scary to make mistakes in such environment. I wish I could talk and practise my Korean like that as well.

@@trinityrogers1148 That's a shame. Keep trying though. It's pretty hard to put yourself out there and try to speak to others in a language that isn't your native tongue.
When the root of your second language is not similar to your native, it gets a bit tricky. However, I can say for certain that learning Korean is way much easier than Mandarin for English speakers because you don't have the problem with tones. In Mandarin, one wrong tone could change the word to something else completely.
I can't really say much.. I speak 4 lenguages, which are different.. I'm used to languages.. but the 2nd lenguage is always the hardest, cus you're still figuring out how to deal with languages and learning..
@Anastasia harder Learn the basic (my name is.., age, I'm from..etc) before gramma. Whe you know those, start with easy verb in present and the persons (eg. I go, you go,..., I eat..., sleep, drink, talk, see, etc.). Try to figure out how to build the present tense with the first words and apply the rules to other words.. 😊.. which language are you learning??
