What an inspiring video. You kicked it out of the park. All of us can learn a lot from your dedication and passion. This kind of tenacity is a recipe for success in all areas of life.
What an amazing video. I have been playing online chess for 3+ years now, depending on how you count. I have put quite a lot of hours into blitz games, but also some into puzzles and chessable courses. Still, I haven't improved past around 1200 blitz. There are several of these things in life I want to get better at but ultimately do not practice in a truly disciplined manner. Seeing this video inspired me and made me see again what I already know but refuse to actually implement - which is that you need a lot of time invested to get good at something but also need to invest that time wisely.
A really well made video, interesting subject and super impressive that you were able to achieve such proficiency in chess in such a short time! I’ll have to recommend this to folks who are looking to improve their game. Bravo!
Kamryn-your production quality is through the roof! It's better than any of the chess bloggers. I've seen your Wes-esque short video as well. It put a smile on my face. Thank you.
Ahhhhhh I love this!!! Immediately subscribed!!! So inspiring to see this quick progress with lots of discipline with a dash of much needed rest periods. I can’t wait to watch more of you. :) ❤
I knew how to play chess before Queen’s Gambit, but, like you, it was the inspiration to take things a bit more seriously. You offer some good suggestions on progressing. I’ve been under 1400 now for like 2 years. I was able to get there quickly but now am just stuck. I’ll give these tips a try. The puzzle rush is a good start. However, some people are just more talented than others. Most will never beat Magnus or get as good as Jordan at basketball, no matter the effort. I might have just hit my ceiling. Regardless you have a new subscriber and fan!
If the graph at 19:28 is accurate, time-wise, it's encouraging to see the relatively long plateau in the 1300s, which is where I'm stuck right now. Great job on your achievement - and on making such a good video.
sam, keep bouncing up and down between the 12 and 13s.. Cannot seem to get up to the next level. But I haven't done any puzzles, so maybe thats where I go next

2000 has also been my goal for numerous years but I plateaued at 1800. BUT - you put in the work for it and I’m mostly sitting on my butt every day. Big congrats, inspirational!
Me too. I'm only there by virtue of considerable experience (been playing for about 60 years) rather than intense hard work over a short time. In my younger days of course we didn't have the opportunity to play online and, other than weekly visits to the chess club, hand to work with books which were of course expensive and impossible then to find second-hand; at least the books that we really wanted. Well done, Kamryn. I think your chess career has been truly admirable.
As a London player (more like, London spammer), I feel really inspired by your last game. I just reached 1100 today - I started at 255 in 2021, climbed all the way to 1000 in 2022, went offline a bit before decided to hit the board again and got to 1100 this very day. I might be interested to follow your path, and hopefully I'll be on that level soon enough. Again, thanks for your really inspiring video and story! Congratulations on reaching 2000!
This is such a cool video. Your comitment is kind of crazy to me, I have pretty bad ADHD and being this organized and thoughtful about improving is super foreign to me, but inspiring at the same time. I'm very comfortable being a casual triple digit elo chess player, but you make me want to practice music with this same level of intentionality.
Really great quality video. I genuinely thought this had millions of views because of how high quality it was! I’ve recently started my own chess journey, and this is inspiring. Keep up the good work 😀
600 subscribers?? Am I reading this correctly?? Absolutely wonderful quality in your work. You’re sure to see growth, and I wish you the best along that journey.
This is such a dope video. Very inspirational. I'm an older beginner, and this is motivating. U really put a lot of thought into how to get better and was very intentional. Congrats on reaching 2000. What's next?
This video is sooo relatable. Struggling through the noob learning process for understanding openings- memorizing some tricky trappy opening sequence that your opponents almost never fall for or it doesn't work because the opponent more often than not will go off script, stubbornly sticking to a memorized move sequence rather than appropriately responding and adjusting to what the opponent is doing, "struggling to decide when to change my plans...playing moves that I was comfortable with rather than what the position called for", ❤😢 that is still me! Thank you for this video
This is absolutely brilliant! You did not get there accidentally at all. This is such a great example of someone who knows how they learn and using it well!
Thank you Kamryn for sharing both your story and tips! I just started a google doc to list all the reasons for losing my games...and I didn't realize that in just 1 week, I lost several games to just forks, back-rank mate, and hanging pieces! Basically, losing to the most basic and avoidable mistakes in chess!
As a teenage girl I was also inspired by netflix show to start chess again, at the age of 14. I'm 16 now and I have gone from 900 to 1600, I recently dropped out of school so I could dedicate all my time to chess and become a real proffesional player. Discipline and a routine has always been difficult to me, so I used to run on spontaneous burts of energy and motivation. Ever since I left school, I have had to create a schedule on how to study, but it is difficult to be self-disciplined, and always found an irrelvant reason to blame for that. But seeing you make the choice to put in the work, and continue even when it wasn't easy, was so inspirational and served as a reminder for my own goals and a reminder for the fact that I get to make the choice of working hard. I'll return when I reach 2000 x Thank you SOOOO much for this video. I wish you all the best in your chess journey!!
Hi there, I think you should get back to school, but don’t let that discourage you from becoming a great Chess player. Lots of professionals, current and former have achevied amazing things while also having gotten degrees in engineering, maths, medicine etc. You never know if you have what it takes to make it professionally, so having an education to fall back on is a sensible thing to do - at least a high school diploma. I just reached 2000 myself today while in second year of med school, so anything is possible
I think it is a little early to drop school to focus on chess, you’re better off also getting educated and enjoying chess on the side. No pro would recommend to drop everything and focus on chess at the stage of 1600, school wouldn’t even limit you hitting gm. If you hit gm and find you don’t have enough time to become super gm then perhaps it makes sense, because then you’re at the point where a little more time on chess and you can start making a living off it. But unless you are a content creator and successful at it while also playing chess, you arent going to be able to make a living off it for a very long time, even if you are a one in a billion chess prodigy. Stay in school for now, school wont limit your chess abilities, and it keeps your options open so you can make a living, even if chess is your end goal, you still have to eat and live lol
This is such a great video. Even including the part about how tilting works was very valuable. Those periods feel like they last forever but they always do come to an end. Such an inspiration to the rest of us about 500 points lower that it is possible with the right attitude, planning, and determination. Keep up the great work! New subscriber here for sure.

It is not easy, but it is definitely obtainable if you have the patience and motivation. I have played for about 2 years and 4 months, and I continously solved tactical puzzles and analyzed by games, now I am 2200
@@magnetoninja7386 I play for 3 years now and I am only at 1100 in 3 minutes games . But i dont analyze much i just play for fun. In longer games i have around 1400 but i almost play only 3 minutes Games.
Yeah I'm over 2000 but I got there after much more than 2 years of playing chess. She's just super talented compared to me. What she accomplished is honestly very inspirational.
@@Eric_Rebron Yep, it is the talent that makes a difference.
Exactly she has to have the brains to get there that quickly without training in childhood.
You're amazing, super much respect that you did this!
Only watched the first 30 seconds and am hooked. Your background in film shows, this is professional level work.
Nearly cried a little when you got your 2001 like that. …well done
I’m trying to get 1600 at the moment . And I realise I need to study games now rather than just …figure it out as I go
Have you managed to do it?
@@RomanWegera Yes thankyou I managed to get up to around 1750....but then it slid down again lol :) and have you been doing well?
@@jerichosharman470how about now?😊
Congratulations on all of your success! I absolutely love this story. Can't wait for more content.
This is inspirational asf. Thank you so much, I needed this XD
Glad you mentioned how difficult it is to visualize tactics OTB because for my first tournament it was a pain and I often blundered a position. But the more tournaments I went to the better I got at visualizing tactics OTB. Although I won't dedicate my life to chess, this definitely inspires me to get better.
I had exactly opposite problem when started with playing online or against computer (after decades OTB).
This channel. This will be big and I’m here for it!
You have done great work in this video. Nice editing and music back ground.
Old boomer beginner here (almost 64yo) and so glad your video popped up in my TH-cam feed! Nothing big to say - just figure the algorithm likes comments🤷🏻♂️
Look forward to more chess from you so I subbed… maybe showing you analyzing some of your games (old ones so it doesn’t tip off what openings you’re currently into)?
This is one of the most encouraging and exciting videos I’ve watched on the matter.. thank you so much.. and the production is so enjoyable.. it’s a short movie.. I literally wished if it was a 60-90 min long.. Amazing.. and it’s really a thrill to be one of your early subscribers.. thank you again, more please❤
Incredible accomplishment. Of all the Gm's and IM's putting out content, its nice to see someone with a more humble chess background putting their chess story out there and making chess content. Keep it up!
The reaction to you reaching 1900 the second time at 15:43 says it all. Pure determination to get better, and there was no doubt you'd hit 2000!
I agree I was like yet it hit her a little different that time she knew she had a ways to go
Great video! really hooked me ant kept me engrossed the entire 20 minutes
Amazing video. I have a similar story going from 800 to 1900 (Blitz) in 6 months. Previously, I've only played in clubs and I was one of the worst at university chess club. Now I'm the 4th strongest out of 300 players beating even the #1 Rated who is an FM once. All together it took me around 2 years and 6 months.
Wow! Just wow! A beautiful and inspiring story!
Really well made video and congrats on 2000!
I am so impressed right now! Coming from 0 to 2000 in just two years as an adult is such an inspiring acomplishment, I am truely stunned. I wish you all the best for your future improvement, you inspired mentrying to do the same!
Wow you are truly inspirational. I wrote down your daily routines because Ive been searching for one. Thank you so much for describing your methods to improve! been stuck at 1600 for a very long time and this was what I needed to get motivated to reach 2000!
You're lucky I'm stuck at only 1100
hey I’m new to the game, I started two weeks ago and am currently 720. Any tips on getting to the legendary four digits? My dream is 1500, but I don’t think it’s possible because all of my friends are like 200-400 and I’m terrible with opening knowledge.
@@ajcon3874 Daniel Naroditsky Speedrun videos got me from 900 to 1400 in 4 months. He’s actually the best coach you can have for free.
@@misterza1 that’s some pretty fast growth, I’ll go watch some of his vids
@@ajcon3874 I got to 1600 by just watching the big four:- Gotham, Hikaru, Botez and Cramling. However it was not a very fast and/or efficient growth and is mostly for entertainment. Ive heard danya is rly good for accelrating your growth
Congratulations on hitting 2000. This video is so well produced, I’ve subscribed and look forward to following along.
Even though this is your first vid u did ur editing like a professional! Keep up the great work!
This video was a lot of fun. I'm in. Subscribed.
Wow! Thank you so much. You're such an inspiration! Keep playing and keep winning.
It's really inspiring me to follow a more disciplined approached toward the Chess I play. Really great video Kamryn!
well done :) proud of ya. i've plateau'ed at 1200/1400 for a while. so this is some good inspiration
19:00 I also cried with you :)
Congratulations. Well done :)
This really inspired me to believe in myself more. I know I'm capable. I have to just keep fighting. This was an astounding example of 'if there's a will, there's a way'.
Today is where things change for me. Step by step towards my next goal.
Thank you for this wonderful journey you took us all on.
very wholesome video, gratz on accomplishing your goals.
This was crazy inspirational. Right now I sit at 1400 but you just made me feel like if I really push myself and put in the time I can reach higher heights. Great video!
What's your elo now?
@@RomanWegera around 1700 but I mostly lost interest in pushing for higher rating and now just mostly play to have fun
Thank you ❤❤❤ for sharing your detailed study plans!!
Such an inspirational story!
I watched this yesterday and had to come back to tell you how inspired I am by your story! Thank you for sharing, for giving me a little nudge to keep going, and congratulations!!
Wow that was absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing this incredible story. I am truly inspired by your resolve and determination
NICE JOB!!!!!!! you're awesome
Thank you.
I love this video so much! So inspirational and well made!
such good story telling, subscribed
Ahhhhhh I love this!!! Immediately subscribed!!! So inspiring to see this quick progress with lots of discipline with a dash of much needed rest periods. I can’t wait to watch more of you. :) ❤
Unbelievable that this is your first video
Definitely earned a sub for the quality
I knew how to play chess before Queen’s Gambit, but, like you, it was the inspiration to take things a bit more seriously. You offer some good suggestions on progressing. I’ve been under 1400 now for like 2 years. I was able to get there quickly but now am just stuck. I’ll give these tips a try. The puzzle rush is a good start. However, some people are just more talented than others. Most will never beat Magnus or get as good as Jordan at basketball, no matter the effort. I might have just hit my ceiling. Regardless you have a new subscriber and fan!
This was absolutely incredible to watch. Big congratulations!
my favourite part is the look of pure joy when you knew you had it in the bag. quality stuff.
This video is legit giving me hope and now I’m making my own training plan!
Damn, she really put in the work. Truly inspiring!
Very nice, thanks for taking us on this journey with you. Congrats!
@@hi9313 I definitely think puzzles help, but I can't say whether they help more than analyzing one's own games... I'm not giving up yet. :-)
inspiring story - thanks. All of us get stuck and have losing streaks, and it's helpful to hear a success story and that there is light at the end of the tunnel if we put in the work!
This video is a great watch! I’m also a college student trying to become a proficient chess player, thank you for the inspiration!
Loved watching this! inspiring
2000 has also been my goal for numerous years but I plateaued at 1800. BUT - you put in the work for it and I’m mostly sitting on my butt every day. Big congrats, inspirational!
Me too... 1800 is like a goddamn brick wall for me. I can hit it with a ton of focus but 1900 feels miles away
@@brendan6778 I was stuck at 1700 for almost 10 months. Finally hit 1800 recently.
Absolutley brilliant video! I wish i had your discipline! Well done!
Excellent work. Not "accidental" at all, but rather the outcome of methodical, systematic, and continuous effort.
Fascinating and very well produced insight into your chess journey. Thanks!
Really great quality video. I genuinely thought this had millions of views because of how high quality it was! I’ve recently started my own chess journey, and this is inspiring. Keep up the good work 😀
Loved your story. Love your story telling. I just subscribed.
Fact that she started at 700 just hurts. I just assumed everyone just started at 100 flat for like a week
Great video .. shows your dedication!!
I hope you will continue
This is so good and motivating at the same time!! I'm currently around 1100 rated on rapid and hoping to reach 2000 one day :)
i'm so f-ing happy the TH-cam algo blessed me with this vid.
quality stuff, kamryn.
600 subscribers?? Am I reading this correctly?? Absolutely wonderful quality in your work. You’re sure to see growth, and I wish you the best along that journey.
This is so inspiring! You're such a queen!
Thank you for this video
well i am 26, just started to play pretty often and i felt too old to became a pro but you are great inspiration, thanks !!
I'm 26 and went from 800 to 1800 (Blitz) in 6 months, bro. You got this.
Amazing growth and yet so humble 😁
I love documentation of journeys like this. Congratulations! You inspire adult improvers all around the world :)
That was the single best chess video I've ever seen. Congrats from Brazil.
I'll return when I reach 2000 x
Thank you SOOOO much for this video.
Wow, that was such a beautiful and encouraging story. Congratulations!
