    You are a wealth of knowledge Chris and thank you for sharing. I've sniped for nearly 50 years and only recently began metal detecting. It is so much fun to find gold in the scoop. I wish I had gotten into detecting much earlier!!

    Good job. Another very good and edicational video. Glad you found an old pit to work that is not located within a fire zone. Glad you recommended metal detecting dry wash tailings and your dig hole. Had a buddy this past week show me photos of nuggets and a 5 gram nugget he located on private land not far from Sonora, CA. after getting permission from land owner. After getting permission to be there the land owner accompanied this detectorist to show him dry creek beds. While surveying/prospecting the creek bed area they came across a number of recent shallow and small dig holes each with gravel piles of discarded materials that a tresspasser had left. Metal detecting the piles of discarded gravels resulted in 3 nuggets ranging between 3 and 6 grams each. Whoever illegally dug and panned material on this private land had not bothered to check his tailings with a metal detector since these relatively large nuggets were each less than 3 inches deep in the piles.

      Keeping away from the fire zone and forest closures is tough this summer. Good for your buddy who found that gold - metal detectors can be great tools!

    TRUE STORY: They say "Gold is where you find it"....Years ago I was poking around the "Diltz Mine" located in Mariposa Co. California with my metal detector. I happened to glance up and saw a rusted coffee can wedged in the fork of a tree branch. It was filled with almost 12 ounces of fine powdered gold. Almost the consistency and color of ground cinnamon. ( Strange but true!). So I guess another good tip: "KEEP your eyes Open!!!🤔🤔🤔!

      The Diltz mine produced a lot of gold.

    Thanks Chris another great show.
    I am wondering what to look for to indicate a hydrolic pit as I have never been shown?
    Piles of bare gibbers or large gravel and steep banks seem to be a part of them?
    There wasn’t much hydrolicing done where I am in central Queensland, but I’ve been told a story of one fellow who spent a few years working an area with pump built from a model T chassis.

  • @haroldishoy2113
    @haroldishoy2113 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That part of California is my home, fascinating history and a lot of it remains. Due to the environmental damage done by hydraulic mining, which lead to a court case and eventually a law in the 1850’s that turned California into a mainly agricultural based economy instead of a minerals and mining economy much like what Nevada is today.

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      California still produced lots of gold for decades after the Hydraulic mining stopped. What stops mining there now is politics.

      I did some checking trying to retrace my steps from last summer, sorry I was off on my date.
      It was “Woodruff v. The North Bloomfield Gravel Mining Company” in 1882. This lead to ten more years of legal wrangling in which more fines were levied and ultimately these placer mining companies went to either Montana, Colorado or Alaska.

    First of all, we thank you for your unlimited giving in the sciences of mineral exploration. We salute and appreciate you over and over again
    The question is: I want to buy a gold detector called Ajax Primero, which is an American manufacture, and this device has the ability to detect gold up to a depth of 50 meters and you can determine the type of metal and also this device has the ability to determine the depth, shape and type of metal you want and these statements I did not try myself, but According to the manufacturer's statements. • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You've not found much gold with a detector, especially small stuff like that. Pin pointers cannot see targets that small, so they are totally useless. This is why you can watch lots youtube videos of guys who detect for nuggets and not one uses a pin pointer. The pin pointers are great for coins, which are giant targets in the world of nuggets.
