    Nr: 700. Jim Nilsson. Jetskoter.

    Svarthålet Racing Pulsejet vehicle, built to run on ice. The engine is a valved pulse jet. They raced several times each day during this event and reached 242km/h (average speed over 1000m).
    2019 they reached a top speed of 259.74km/h (and 254.86km/h average speed over 1000m).
    The commentator/speaker talks about getting the soot out after a 2 year pause. And when the engine start mentions that things in the speaker cabin fell to the floor.
    Around 5:14 - 5:29 the engine starts again, but with a sort of misfire. The engine seems to start in a incorrect combustion cycle. The commentator jokes about checking the spark plug gap but mention again the 2 year delay/waiting.
    The tow vehicle is a modified Swedish Larven "Caterpillar", a snowmobile manufactured from 1965 to 1980s in Östersund Sweden.

      Not the same as a real jet engine. The way it tugged at the cable, I thought there was going to be a show to watch.

    Very anticlimactic! Also, given the amount of thrust that engine can generate, is the chain connecting the sled to the truck during start-up of sufficient gauge???

    • @diafysal
      @diafysal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Parts can fail, but the chain did not :-)

    Seems to me these home built scramjets are 99% let's see if we can get it to start, and 1% run time.

      I think that this was the first run after 2 years pause. They made several successful starts after this during the 2 day event.

      Frankly that was tongue n cheek regarding a nothing burger. Someone in a different post had commented that they where involved in drag racing for like 50+ years and how the popularity has gone way down hill. Being I’m a boomer who grew up in Michigan, probably been around my share.
      Fun! Now, my wife’s 560 S class with the right tires would have been competitive during the golden era in A/FX in 63 prior to funny cars in 64/65. Things change. A genuine real grocery getter, with a factory speed limiter of 300 kph (186 mph) and reclinable rear seats. Not exactly Arnie Beswick Mrs B’s grocery getter, but my wife’s car would given it a hard time. Just need to figure out how to turn off the climate control. 😀

      its an 80 year old engine design...
      also the camera cant show the real noise of it. its one of the loudest, deepest things a person could ever hear.
      and for a private person this is insanely well made.
      i have biggest respects for the people building it AND having the balls to strap it onto that thing and ride it.
