Peafowl came to our door all the time, the first time we lived in Hawaii. We fed them. They would scratch on our roof, peck our door, and call. I grew up loving peafowl, and always watch them with amazement.
It’s sad because a lot of the wild peacocks and peafowl aren’t roaming around like they used to here. But I just heard one at the Honolulu Zoo, so I’m happy to know they aren’t completely gone.
I also live in hawaii the last time I saw a wild peacock was like 12 years ago when I was 6, every day since moving in with my auntie I've been wondering what the f this sound was in the bushes districting my dog every morning now i know
Same! But i guess the one im thinking of was a little more dramatic than these guys. We'd hear that dude screaming at the top of his lungs in long, drawn out "heeeeeyaaaaaaaaaaaaah!"'s every morning🤣
0:15 I kept hearing this sound echoing across the park and thought it was a cat stuck in a tree or something. Searched everywhere for it because it sounded like it was in distress... then discovered it was the peacocks they have at that park. TIL peacocks meow.
My grandparents had a bunch of these, and they ended up as pests. The calling is super loud and happens all day long. They roost in trees or jump up on cars and poop on everything, and there's a lot of poop since they're basically goose-sized. They're not friendly, and can be aggressive. They're pretty, and it's far better to enjoy other people's peacocks rather than your own.
@@Tdotttttt um.. nobody said i did lol i actually became close with these neighbors and never had an issue. i cant say hearing this everyday at all times of the day isn’t just a little annoying?
@@mags6488 No you can't! That’s not the hideous scream that I’m familiar with. Must have to do with the individual bird, what they’re trying to convey with the call or its circumstances.
Perhaps so - India has an amazing amount of biodiversity. I’d imagine that it’s partially due to it being near the equator, and thus having a tropical biome...
Mm-hmm. And tigers and leopards do live in India. However, I said might because most predatory mammals avoid humans. And it could also be a sloth bear, Indian wolf, or dhole. Plus, peafowl aren’t the only predator alarms in India. Langur monkeys, sambar and chital deer will all alarm call when a tiger or leopard is nearby.

Ah, peacocks. Chickens and ducks are good for eggs, turkeys are good for meat, geese are good for watchdogs, and peafowl are good for absolutely nothing whatever except providing an opportunity for introduction to your local sheriff’s deputy. That call sounds to your neighbors exactly like a woman screaming desperately for help: and once the deputy gets there, and you’re trying to explain what the neighbors heard, that damn peacock will stubbornly refuse to make a sound. Aggravating waste of perfectly good oxygen, you ask me.

My grandfather actually lived next to a farm of these and said people would come running in the middle of the night because they thought someone was getting mugged or something
They are better than burglar alarms. Start screaming when strangers are near. I'm a postie and a few of my customers have these. Beautiful birds though.
Satan late but you’re correct in saying that males have to attract females in the wild. That’s not the case with all animals though. Males have to attract females because females are pickier due to the amount of energy they invest in their offspring. Seahorse and penguin males invest more energy, so females have to impress them. Humans break the laws of nature all the time (ie natural selection) so we run differently
