Because you are a baller and you are obnoxious, you buy the GT2 and go to the track and the Jag is your road car. It is the only obvious choice. ;)

It's quite bad ^^
BUT if you drive it rationally you get an okay economy for that much power.
Pretty much like all V8 Jags.
Having fun with my XF SV8 I need about 17l/100km (~14mpg).
Driving to work I get it down to an average of 11.5l/100km (~20.5mpg)
On long trips I even get it down to 9.5l/100km (~25mpg)
I would assume as the F-Type is about 10 years younger and therefore technically more advanced this are about the numbers you should get although the F-Type SVR has ~150hp more than my old cat.

I'm a salesperson at Jaguar Land Rover. Personally I have driven stick everyday for the past 10 years. The manual F-Type S doesn't pop as much as the automatic F-Type S. Also the shifter is a bit disappointing and the clutch has super long travel. It's one of the rare cars I would pick an automatic over the manual.

And besides, it's insanely hard for any manual transmission out there to beat the shifting of a ZF8HP70 (or 90), especially with a trans tune ... Those transmissions are just bonkers amazing for an auto
The ZF8 has a full manual mode with zero automatic intervention. But it is imposible to manually shift the car effectively, so auto 0-60 is 2. 8 secs, manual is maybe 3.5.
@@TheStraightPipes as an F-type S owner, I have to agree, the ZF 8 Is just a lot better, I was super disappointed with the Manual F-type, and I'm a manual fanboy.

British racing green F-type V6 S with a manual transmission. Buy it, never sell it, classic car right there.
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH we have a kid at work (I work at a Jag dealer) who bought an F-type and says the same thing, that his "investment" is gonna be as valuable as the E-type. We all laugh at him. It'll never be a classic.
gwot Yeah I agree. Most Jags tank in the resale value. Look at the XK 1st gen, 2nd gen and the XJS - all lost huuuuge amounts of value. The early XJS and E-type all gained value because they are 60s cars, and all cars from that time period have!
Maybe, they are incredible cars. But i wouldn't bet on it, production numbers are too high. Unless people start totalling them in droves.
Believe it or not, the F-type R is actually one of jaguars most reliable cars according to the little information i could find. But it'll still break in 2 years like all modern cars.

Actually it isn't.
If you want to know how its done read on, if not have a nice day.
Old sportscars (60ies) had carburettors through which the pistons sucked the air/fuel mix.
If you lifted your foot from the pedal, the throttle valve closed, but the engine still sucked on the carburettor. As sportscars usually had a big system and not perfectly "leakproof" (thats why the family cars usually didnt do the pops and crackles) a bit of gas ended up in the chamber anyway, but it did not got burned properly so it ended up in the exhaust and ignited there causing the pops.
When the cars got injectors instead of carburettors the pops stopped because of the relapsing shutdown.
Now because of nostalgia a lot of people loved those pops and crackles. So the carmakers started to program their sportscars to do these pops.
They just told the software to inject a little gas and to turn of the sparks when you lift the foot from the pedal.
Voila pops and crackles.
It's just software. That's why every underpowered golf does this as well today (unfortunately).
A OH the technique is nothing special. I never said I don’t like it or it doesn’t fit. It’s just not somehow advanced, it’s 3 lines of code and every modern car can do it.

I've been doing that method of exhaust pops for ages on my MINI and Mercedes CLA250. Works in every car!! Just makes them sound so much better. It's honestly the best and puts an even bigger smile on your face every time you drive your car!
There IS an "O" in it. Look at the emblem again. The "SV" is circled with an "O".

Apparently SVO is the division and SVR is the model. There's a type R and an SVO tuned type R. This is the latter. I'm not sure why but even my manual calls mine an SVR in the print and not an SVOR.

I was driving home from picking up my dry-cleaning in my Nissan Armada (my other car is a Nissan GTR) when one of these passed me on some s-curves. I was shocked by the exhaust sound! After ignoring Jaguar for many years, i was blown away! I would have never expected this kind of anti-social sound from a Jag. Frankly, I love it! Well done.

As far as which to pick between the 911, AMG, or this....tough call. It would be down to the AMG & F-Type for me and I couldn't make that choice until I had a chance to drive both of 'em.

This is slightly less obnoxious than my neighbor's old Harley, but not by much. It sounds like an old musclecar with a bigger cam during those acceleration bursts.

I had the same thought re muscle cars. If you close your eyes and listen to it at 3:07 it sounds like an tubbed Nova at a local drag night!

Tobias Ahlzen I must point out I’m a machine mover and I was just doing a job there moving something. I would LOVE to work there, Jaguar performance cars have come such a long way and their centre is amazing.
Any idea if the cars are SVR but the centre is SVO because of Ford's SVO Mustangs? Some sort of copyright that Jag can't get past?
SVR is Special Vehicle Racing which is a division of Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations (SVO).
My E46 330Ci has the same pop and crackle technique, I absolutely love it with its muffler delete. Love this F-type!
Haven't heard the svr, but driven and buying soon the R and you guys did a A+ job through and through. Incredible car.

I think that is the absolute best looking and (tied with AMG) best sounding factory exhaust you can buy today. Never seen an OEM one that looked that awesome.

None of the turbo charged equivalents sound anywhere near as good. You just can't beat a good supercharged V8 :)
You can beat it with a naturally aspirated V8 :)
Look up the Triple Turbo McLaren and you'll see a turbo car that sounds better than A LOT of NA cars.

I have a 2013 Jaguar XK-R with Dynamic Exhaust. They sound very much the same to me, lots of crackles and pops when letting off the gas when sport shifting, but very subdued in regular driving mode. Fairly certain the engines are the same with this one being more refined, better supercharger, etc. Great 5.0 by the way.

Thanks for the tip guys 😁 I've got a thunderbird exhaust on my V6S and the tip which I was unaware of works amazingly well 🤣🤣🤣
I sometimes use the same technique in my R56 Cooper S. It does it above 1800 rpm as long as the engine is hot. Above that the ECU fully cuts fuel to the engine when you lift off (you can check it in the instant fuel consumption), and you can get the pops by tapping the gas (not that extreme though).
Below that fuel isn't fully cut to avoid stall so you don't get the pops and crackles.

Tried the ‘tap/pop’ trick in my 2017 (8V) S3 and while it’s nowhere near as obnoxious it actually worked. Very similar rpm range too.

In my opinion, you are the best car reviewers on TH-cam. I love your channel and your funny tests. The visor thing must be a Canadian or a North American feature. The Golf Alltrack Wagon and the Golf R Hatch you reviewed, they both passed the visor test. I wanted to try it on my Golf R Wagon and it didn’t pass... so disappointing! Just go on like that... It failed on my XC90 but passed on my base accord.

This truly is the best sounding v8! Especially since you can be in sport and for those who dont like the crackles you can just turn the loud exhaust off which, imo doesnt do much but, it does stop the crackles if they are too much! This car has it all figured out (: I love it!

actually I owned the first years F type V8s convertible (2014) for 3 years and put 50000 miles on it. Never have a single problem. I really missed the car.
I work at Jag, I hate Jags, they are utterly garbage. I hate Jags so much I would never buy anything British anymore, anything.
@@rtingdds and it's true that it'll break down, everyone has their meaning of "problem" to me if it needs "fixing" and you need to do more than just maintenance, it broke down. I've had customers bring their car in for a check engine light for an o2 sensor, but they always say that it's reliable, so I'll never believe word of mouth from someone that says their Jag being problem free. If I need to replace an o2 sensor in a couple of years, that's not reliable. If I need to use warranty, it's not reliable. Yes there are rare cases, but overall, they are complete trash.

Great video guys. Long awaited this since the SVR is one of my most favourite cars. I'm gonna have to disagree though and say that this is certainly a supercar. 500+ hp is definitely supercar territory. I also want to add that I sort of felt you undermined the R, which is not significantly slower than the SVR here. I would even say it's a better value as it's still 550hp and it's a whopping $30k less
