A couple of weeks ago, 5 work acquaintances (3 girls, 2 guys in their 30s) who are obsessed with K-pop got curious with me listening to Lovebites, a band they have never heard of. So I played them the whole Judgement Day album and all 5 of them liked My Orion, The Spirit Lives On, Lost in the Garden and to a certain extent, Wicked Witch. Guess what all those songs have in common ? Asami's vocals. Her melodic lines cut above the fast pace and heaviness of the songs. No prices for guessing which track they hated the most - Dissonance. They have no opinion on the instrumentation of the songs but they really liked the vocals. 2 of them even mentioned that they'll go to YT and check out more of their stuff (and I quickly pointed them to Epilogue and Empty Daydream before they lose interest !). So, it's a fantastic album not just for metal fans, it seems to appeal to a wider base of audience, especially with the more melodic tracks.
i'm not a metal guy, but i love all LOVEBITES tracks. I don't care what their genres, the only thing i know, they able to create a great music which is really fit for me.
THAT CHORUS!! A little different sound for Lovebites, but as usual they Nailed it. As a guitarist you can understand just how difficult those long sustained note harmonies in M&M's dual solo section are to pull off. After hearing A Frozen Serenade I'm pretty sure they can pull My Orion off Live as well. Can't wait for a chance to hear/see them do just that. 🤘🐺🤘
What she actually says is "my lion" 🤣. You have to see their live stream of this track at the release party to understand that this song is titled - My Lion and comes complete with hand movements.
I have read, 'The Japanese have trouble to pronounce and tell the difference between the English "r" and "l" because these sounds don't exist in Japanese.' For this reason I believe they are actually having fun amongst themselves a bit with "oh lion" in this respect during the 'premier listening party', challenges that result from their choice to write & sing all songs in English, a non-native language. All members affirm, "It's not a lion song" This translation of 'the boards' is offered by Jun Oi: Asami: Isn't it fast? 7 songs already Asami: song chorus with everyone oh!! oh!! On the LIvestream song title and printed on the CD the title is My Orion. In the Livestream the ladies were having fun with the fact that the 'L' sound is not used in the Japanese language. They tend to use the R sound instead unless they really work on English pronunciation. Plays on words and puns are HUGE in Japan, so they were having fun that it *_could_* be heard as Oh! Lion! when mixing English with Japanese - that's where the lion claw gesture comes from. If you notice in the Livestream, Fami actually draws a (pretty good) Lion head at one point - and holds it up again later and draws an X through it. She also put up the picture with the Lion X-ed out on her Twitter feed.
@@Patrick_H. Err yes I know. I was joking based on their goofing around on the live stream (hence the 🤣). I can't wait to mimic their hand movements if they do it live. 🤣🤣
I'm not a fan of metal. When I listen to Lovebites, I don't think it's a genre of metal music. For me, it's just music. And Judgement Day is just an outstanding music album. For me, all the songs are good, but the best among them are three songs by Miyako (Soldier Stands Solitary, Lost In The Garden, Wicked Witch), Judgement Day and My Orion. Lovebites is an amazing band, you can listen to it endlessly and have fun every time. I listen to the Judgment Day album in its entirety almost every day, both with headphones and on the floor acoustics (I have a very good block system and a separate headphone amplifier). And album only gets better and better every time. One trouble - are few bands left to listen to after Lovebites.)
agreed: lovebites ruins you for other bands. and to their songs you can listen so often and always discover new little intricacies, especially with a good hifi-system.
It is a sign of a great album when every single song on it is someone's most favorite. My two least favorite songs on the album are several people's top favorite. And my favorite, SSS, is your least favorite. It's all good, just means there are no bad songs and the album is great. I feel it is their best one.
Been keeping track of all your JD album reacts, and your top 3 are in many others top 3. Interestingly, My Orion has become a fan favourite due to the livestream and is in my top 3 along with one that is in your bottom 2, SSS, which happens to trend towards being extremely popular 😂The point being, it's testament to the overall quality of every track on this album, everyone has different favourites and many different tracks stand out. Secondly, it just shows how beautifully personal musical taste is, beyond the objective commentary of musicianship, technicality, complexity and so on. Always enjoy listening to your fair and informed thoughts, even if sometimes my opinion may differ! Hope that Lost In The Garden gets another 8+ horns, I'm sure it will... again it's going to give your another taste of variety.
@@marks5451 cheers. It’s really hard to pick a favourite based on anything objective isn’t it 😂 It took me a few listens to really appreciate Lost In The Garden but many of their songs can be like this, if for no other reason then there’s just so damn much going on it takes a few listens to let it all sink in before you can just vine with it and sing along. Maybe I’m just a little slow haha
@@joelb4530 Well in that case I'm slow too. It took me 3 or 4 listens until I started to really appreciate Judgement Day and then it just grew and grew with each subsequent listening. Now I just love it to bits. And like you said there is so much going on that I only really appreciate it after hearing the songs multiple times.
The fact that a song as amazing as Soldier Stands Solitarily is your least favorite of the songs you've heard from this album shows just how epic this album is. I can't pick a favorite cuz it changes all the time but this song is top 5 on the album for me.
I like this track allot.
I grew up in the 80s. I shed a tear when I first listened to My Orion. 🥲🐺🤘🏻
it's like refreshing after headbanging from the previous songs
catchy one, good for crowd interaction ...
