Great video as always. While watching this video I was wondering if you could leave one of your smaller palm trees that are planted in containers out for this winter without any protection, just like kind of an experiment to see how it would survive the winter and if it would get any damage. I don’t know why, but I think that would be kinda interesting to see if it actually dies or not. What do you think?

Music Fan 2014 I can leave one outside but I guarantee you it will die it would’ve already died one night about two weeks ago especially in a container the roots will freeze. I will do some experiments to see how little protection they need in this next winter I will plant them in the spring to give them a better chance to route into the ground

James palms ok thank you. I can’t wait to see that. So do they have a better chance of surviving the winter if they are planted in the ground?

Music Fan 2014 yes 100% better chance in the ground because the ground is way warmer than the air temperature. In a pot the routes will freeze and kill it for sure thanks bro 👍

Great video and great palms, James! Especially the watering procedure with letting them dry out inbetween...I have to try that. In the summer I keep them wet but your way seems more natural with better results. I grow washingtonias in south germany, and I'm thinking of putting my filibusta in the soil, it did his 3rd winter greatly in the pot and gets fairly big now. I grow other robustas in the pot and try out several types of soil now. The garden soil is clay which gets pretty soggy and lean in the depth...

Dear James Palms, I like the way you are growing the Washington Robusta from your residence somewhere in SW Ontario. I would love to see you take this palm tree especially to a larger scale and grow them in a greenhouse and then we can show people in SW Ontario how to grow this palm in their landscape without any extra planting details.. They are already growing successfully in a Vancouver, BC climate...

Great video. Really helpful information. One question: what's the lowest temperature a 5-6 year palm tree can tolerate? Can I let them outside for 3 months with an average 0 to -5 C degrees?

But you didnt show us the seeds....you showed us the seedlings...i have these all over my yard and they decide where to live...usually in the cracks in the cement...i would like to be the boss of them and put the seeds in a pot but frankly im not sure what the seeds look like...little tiny round black balls or bigger green marble size balls...m

I didnt mean to post yet....the tree that most of the offspring are from is about 70 feet tall and i cant really pluck the seeds off when i want to....they blow off and you just find the single blade of grass looking baby and they refuse to grow where i put them...i thought maybe if i saw the seeds be planted i would recognize them and i would try to find them in the grass under the tree and plant them in pots....its a stupid problem but i like those much better than serious problems
