    I would have to disagree with previous implication that they took the tour too far. As a hospice nurse who works with alzheimers patients it is understood that this is what sustained him and maintained his baseline. His family has only done what he wanted and this is documented for a reason primarily for educational purposes and it was a beautiful thing they were able to help him do.

      Thank you! Members of my family would have been in a far better state with these stimulations. As a person who might get the disease, I'm planning on learning to play the guitar, paint and other things that will stimulate my brain. I saw Glen play at one of the last concerts. He was on fire, the concert a few days before he struggled, but people still loved getting to be there. His family did a wonderful service for him. They worked diligently to keep him going as long as they could. As we both know it's very difficult under normal circumstances. Glen most likely would have lost his memory much sooner without being able to do what he loved. I feel blessed to have been part of the audience. His family loved him so much, you could see the love pouring at on stage.💜

    .I just saw the film last night on Netflix. I would say he was able to do what he loves doing while his mind was still capable to perform. This is not easy for his family he has great support from his family.

    It's so hard to see him like this. I lost my mom to Alzheimer's, and I have horrible problems with short term memory but it's caused by meds, not that that makes it any better or easier, but my heart ached for them all when this took place. I've watched the documentary so many times. I've enjoyed Glen's music since about 1971 when I was 12.

      I lost my Dad to Alzheimer's. My Dad was a very talented painter, pianist, and Fencer! He taught fencing in the late 50's throughout the 60's.
      Like Glen, My father was still able to play the piano! He forgot mostly everything else but not the piano! I pray they find a cure for this horrible disease.
      Any way's, Like Glen, My Dad is now Young again up in Heaven doing the things he loves doing... All I can say is... See ya Later Dad, and Glen, and everyone else! 🤗🎸💗⛪✝ 🎹

    hey you ask me, he was sure right bout his guitar being too thin sounding..........but I do sympathize with he family, it is a difficult time there facing.........always loved and do love Glen Campbell

  • @JoeDoe2
    @JoeDoe2 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    The saddest part to me is how right he was. The guitar was 'way too thin' sounding and not meant to sound that way. Either it needed repair, the controls weren't set properly, or they didn't do proper sound checks before the concert, or someone otherwise dropped the bar with the equipment. Obviously, he should have continued with the crappy sound without stopping or talking about it cause that's what live musicians have to do, but that was due to his illness and it wouldn't normally be that way. Normally, they'd have figured out what happened after the show and fixed it for the next time.

    I was afraid that something like this would happen...my mom had the disease and it was a hell of a thing to see her slip and not be able to cope with the slightest thing....Glenn did a show in my hometown of Greensburg Pa not 5 minutes from my place..but as much as I liked him I couldn't bear to see him in a compromised state...I didn't want to see something like this....his kids did the best they could in a tough spot....I'm glad for the you tube vids of him at the top of his game though..he was great..

    I understand the argument for having Glen perform when he was able and wanting, and I was fortunate to see him perform early in the tour at Phoenix where he never missed a beat. However, as this tour dragged on and Glen’s mental state declined, I think there was a line crossed with regard to what was good for him and what was good for revenue. What this man gave to humanity was worth far than what might have been earned by squeezing out the last few dollars from his life. It was painful to witness and he did not deserve it.

    • @n9oqu
      @n9oqu 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you got it all wrong joe. The family tried to say thank You to the fans one last time. Glen's mental degradation was most likely unintentional and they pulled the concert plug at an appropriate time from their perspective. Glen will be missed by his fans.

      When the family arrived at the decision to have a farewell tour, they surely recognized that they would be exposing themselves to criticism from the public who actually had no idea what was going on behind the scenes or what was the state of his health from one day to the next. They must have understood that they would be criticized and second-guessed no matter what decisions they made about his care, his music, his residence, and so many other things that must be considered when a family is going through such a devastating journey.
      In spite of that all the variables, they courageously put themselves out there and planned the final voyage, whose length would be anyone's guess. They shared what is usually a private journey in a very public way, and we got to enjoy Glen for a little longer as a result. But sure enough, before he even took his last breath, the Joe Griffins of the world jump in to have their say about all the shoulds and shouldn'ts as if they had a crystal ball on the timeline of the disease.
      To the family of Glen Campbell: I have no doubt that y'all did the best you knew to do under the most difficult of circumstances. Glen was blessed by your support and devotion, as were the fans who got to benefit from his goodbye tour. I have devoted many years of caregiving for dying family members, and there's not one time I have not looked back to determine if I may have misperceived a need here or overlooked a symptom there. With 20/20 hindsight, perhaps. But I knew I could never really know, especially when they were no longer able to communicate with me. As I compare notes with other caregivers, I have learned that we all tend to look back and wonder. I'm well acquainted with the emotional and physical exhaustion, but I had an advantage in that I was not in the glare of the spotlight. Please know that there are millions of us who respect your courageous trek through that hideous disease. Thank you for allowing yourselves to be vulnerable. Bless you for sharing Glen with us. I am comforted by the knowledge that in our Father's House, there are NO MORE GOODBYES.

      I knew Glen's condition as I attended two shows on the goodbye tour. I was glad my money went to his family. Disagree with any notion at all that he was exploited. Glen Campbell was showered with love and understanding at these shows, and I think absolutely the complete tour was beneficial to him.

    They should have kept adding more shows and had him lip sync to prerecorded tracks.

    This is from the Documentary on Glen's life, career, and struggle with Alzheimers. It is a good film, but I wonder if I am alone in thinking his family and producers shouldn't have pushed him to perform when the disease has already progressed to this advanced degree. When as they say in the film "when the bad shows start to outnumber the good ones", but they still kept to show going, I wonder if they really think this is How Glen would have wanted to be remembered.

      @@robertwadas I wasn't concerned with that. Rather my concern was with whether or not they should have pushed him to perform, and if he truly wanted to keep performing in his condition.

    They had to keep him thin because his skills had diminished. Noticed he repeated “who’s running this show?”’because that’s what he said during rehearsal. The rehearsal was worse. They should not have done the last show.
