Formed by ace guitarist Jimi Slevin, ex of Alice / Brogue towards the end of 1972, Peggy's Leg were known for their adaptations of classical music. Their live set included covers of Yes and Emerson Lake & Palmer as well as music by Bach ("a blistering rendition of Bach's Sinfonia from Cantata Nr. 29"), Katchaturian ("Sabre Dance"), Rossini ("William Tell Overture") and Handel. Their self-released album "Grinilla" came out in late 1973. Managed by John Donohue (Mushroom) who is credited with organising the recording of their self-released album that came out in 1973:
"This is one of the rarest albums of the seventies. Peggy's Leg were an Irish classical rock outfit and their sole album was recorded in just 23 hours. 500 copies were pressed originally and as most were sold to local fans, originals are extremely difficult to locate nowadays, particularly with the inner lyric sheet. The album consisted of six tracks and, aside from an unadventurous cover version of Love Sculpture's Sabre Dance, they comprised self-penned compositions which forged frantic heavy rock sections with soft dreamlike passages into a series of well structured songs. They also recorded a pretty frantic and indeed demented version of the William Tell Overture, which was put out on a 45."--Kissing Spell PR blurb.
The distinctive cover artwork for "Grinilla" was designed by Bad Taste Productions, i.e. Tim Booth of Dr.Strangely Strange. The album release was preceded by a headling concert at Liberty Hall in Dublin on October 24th.
Great album. Have been listening to it for many years as my uncle was a member of this band. Thank you for uploading it and keeping the memory alive!
Wow a family connection super cool! Do you know what he did what he played? Tell the world all you may know, stories like that are great, and so is this band! Very tight and talented so cool! Almost like old Yes or King Crimson, or Moody blues. Such talent they have! You should be proud!
#1 Best regarding
Eres privilegiado !!!!
Tell your uncle that I said he rocks.
Клёво! А на чём играл твой дядя? Какой - это был год?
I read about these guys yesterday in an old Classic Rock Magazines Jimi Hendrix 70th Birthday Tribute!!
The lost treasures you find on youtube never cease to amaze me.
Very good first album, they should have made a second.
Oh My God, increíble band, 💯🎩🚭♿ tks

It's a shame that such good music had to go un recognized. Very original .
Pretty cool! Guess it isn't prog-rock, despite having some prog elements. Maybe kinda soft-rock...
Brilliant on too many lvls to count! Why isn't this more accessible? As opposed to modern pop trash that I can't even think as to damned why the public has even sunk to consume. Answer= globalism. Thankyou.
UN ( full Album ) qui c'est tout comme Peggy 4s LEG no out Sound folk !
Very talented young musicians indeed...this has well
written, arranged and played so well quality material..
thanks for this album posting, these guys were great
and another among so many great bands that were
not well known for various reasons, the main one being
there were so many other super creative high quality
bands that appeared in the incredible 70s
No doubt, this is good progressive rock that I like. I find this excellent. thanks RarestRecords.
OMG is the best album the I got n my colección love progressive rock rock ever
Viva Querétaro mexico 🇲🇽
This is, really, rather amazing.
This is so cool! Love the sounds from this time period. Love all these posts, all new to me. Thanks!
Glad you like them!
Saw them supporting Thin Lizzy at thr National Stadium. Played a lot of 'Yes'
Нравится больше и больше, все красиво, спасибо👍❤
Like combining Grateful Dead with Rush. Dig it.
This first half of this album is nothing special, but the second half is amazing. Some truly unique prog rock!
Music of great beauty. That album cover is far out.The first monkey on the moon. One small step for ape, one giant leap for ape kind.
Great band.
What value do you place on this vinyl ?
A copy sold in 2013 for £700

These albums have great monetary value but the music itself is priceless. Your collection is jaw dropping
Fantastic and audibly superb
Certain elements remind me of the Yes offshoot Flash with Peter Banks
They played my college opening for someone. Was " Could it possibly be " their hit or as close as they got ?
I am so far detached from reality and this world. I think I would’ve fared much better if I was 30 in the 70s 😂 this stuff is awesome.
Very talented group, I'm listening while working. Great experience, they have the sound spirit of that decade. It reminds "Yes", but i apreciate their effort composing. Ten points!
Хороший альбом . Танец с саблями , особенно впечатлил .
i saw this album in a shop in dublin for 500 eur
Original release of this is Bunch label. I had this album on original vinyl some years ago with xeroxed insert. This is exceptional album in that way, the pressing is not bad as most of UK private pressings has. Most of them has poor sound quality but this has not. Musically this is very listenable, not bad at all to my mind and the version of Sabre Dance is very stunning to my ears. Very rare this is and hard to find with original insert and clean condition, I think so.
Love it ... never saw the band live but witnesses the great Jimi Slevin a few times . ..
очень хорошо!
I can hear why it didn't sell in '73, it sounds quite '69. Now with some distance, that's not a problem!
Очень классный альбом. Хорошая сыгранность и мягкие шафлы.
таки да! очень непредсказуемо слаженно играют!
very very good lp..................................................................................
I would really appreciate the chance to listen to a 3 piece band called Glencoe they were from Scotland I think. Also an American folk band called Manna. Well , that is all for now so, thanks for opening this window ! Mr. Wilson 🌅
Thanks for great comments Mark...much appreciated...by all means send your list of recommended old records
I recently aquired a copy of this awesome LP 🙌

Better production and this would be hanging w anything. Very nice , I'm enjoying it.
Don't normally bother commenting but whilst on my search for the weird and the wonderful I came across this and it is fantastic .... thanks for posting.
Thanks Dave glad you enjoyed it, other collectors have brought many of these records to my attention so happy to return the favour
am totally amazed myself!! i'm surely gonna be re-listening to this LP not once.
I Like Them!!!!
Rock de excelente qualidade!
+ : This is Yes?
- : No!!
+ : No?
- : Yes!!
Awesome period of my life
Being 20 yrs of age when most of this music got popular. Lots of unknown groups fell on the wayside. Only popular bands made it. But there was so much more!!! Out there
There was so much good stuff coming out in the early 70s that a lot of really good bands got drowned out by the more established ones or simply had bad luck or got a raw deal from the business side of the industry.
Hands down a personal fav💋
Onomatopoeia."Feeling Sound"
Rare as hell, 500 copies made. Nearly impossible to find which also concerns the unofficial CD releases, a Russian( Alcinous Ltd)and an English one( Kissing Spell).
Mutha Goose near100 copies. made. bat. great. muzic!
Quite an amazing rare Prog LP. Thank you kindly for posting on your cool channel. Cheers! 🛸🎸🎼

They sound a little like "yes"
Sabre dance was originally by Love Sculpture then Instantaneous combustion and now this thumbs up to all three.
I think Dave Edmunds would like these kid's version. Good solid playing. Thank you very much.
Very much like magna carta 😊
Sabre Dance =. WOW !!
Yep! Solid. Enjoy!
Dreamy songs. This is as it gets, good, very very good. And the quality of the mix is hi fi. Thanks again. I think of Caravan and this could be even better, and I never heard it b4
Thanks for listening

I fully understand, it's just that some people can't afford original issues. Maybe reissues, cheaper.
+Sergio Martorelli ...absolutely Sergio if people are happy with a reissue that`s great after all it is supposed to be about the music as well...thanks for your comments, much appreciated
I am so glad to see Getty Lee, Tony Banks, Alan Wilson and Fran Blanche all performing together.
La jambe de Peggy is very nice. :-)
....and such is history
....
supreme
Precioso disco. Muchas gracias! 👍👏👏
classic...
Very strong first track
not bad for an obscure band. not bad at all!
AWESOME ALBUM ...
CHEERS 🎸🔊🤘🤘
Not even on pirated versions?
+Sergio Martorelli Hi Sergio, not quite sure what your question means?
+RarestRecords A lot of rare albuns are available in pirated editions.
+Sergio Martorelli Yes your right there are a lot of these rare releases available on pirated editions, that`s one of the reasons why I identify the original 1st/Rare issues, I am not sure about Peggys Leg but there is an Italian reissue I`ve seen, I still would prefer to wait and hunt down the originals...thanks for your comments
I got a bootleg copy of this album in New York a few years , 10 dollars . Labels are blank and the cover is some sort of photo copy ,Italian made .
Ok I found your channel . Sigh . Lol thought I would not make it in time! Hah , so many kids experimenting musically back then. Lotta great music and musicians from the early 70,s late 60,s !! I got so much i wanna talk about ! It’s like...I’ve been starving ! Ya know? Anyways I used to work in a rack jobber and had a few deletes!! Still wondering what they are worth today but, more importantly would like to find some albums to listen to once again .
Tubão, da Massa...! Sempre acerta, o Miserávi...rsrs
