  • 2-16-05 A Quartermaine death means the requisite family fight. Everyone fights about how AJ was treated when he was alive. This was the first death, which he faked. He would return in a few months and die for real. Phenomenal acting from Stuart Damon and Jane Elliot, particularly.

    This was brilliant writing and brilliant acting. R.I.P. Stuart Damon. I think the writers made a huge mistake writing off Alan when they did. And killing AJ off just to bring him back to kill him again was a waste of talent and a waste of years of great storylines.

    • @beegee1960
      @beegee1960 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That may be true to some extent. But don’t forget, Michael was Carly’s son too. She had just as much right to fight for her son as AJ did. It’samazing how many people forget that. They seem to think if Carly had just told AJ , everything would have just been great. They talk about shared custody like it was a foregone conclusion. But AJ had already proven he would fight just as ruthless and dirty as Carly, Jason, and Sonny. And he started even before Michael was born. And he made it clear that he was not going to share custody.
      If he had not made Carly believe he would steal her son from her and cut her out of his life, she might never have gone to Jason for help. She liked AJ, she was prone to believe in him, but he ended that by threatening her. She did not believe she could trust him. And she was right. And we all know that the Quartermaines would have taken Michael from Carly without a qualm, if it had not been for Jason and Sonny. Hell, they tried to take him away from Jason when they still believed Jason was his father. It was only because they were afraid of Jason that they backed off.
      If they would try that with Jason, what would they have done to Carly, who was poor and alone with no one to help her? She would not have had a chance in hell. Jason and Sonny were just helping Carly keep her baby. It was not their fault that they were just smarter than he was.
      No, I would not feel too sorry for AJ. Just like all his other problems, he was never smart enough solve them.

      @@beegee1960 Thank you Thank you!! I have been saying the samething for years! They act like Carly was just an incubator for Michael an not his mother. She fought for her son in the best way she knew how against a powerful family that used their power to go take her baby away from her( and all this was before they even knew AJ was the father) wasnt it Edward who bribed the Judge and Carly's doctor ti keep her locked up. And when she finally got out how many times did they tell her how they could have her sent back at anytime! And things just go worst when the truth came out and she married AJ. All he did is threaten her. So to me Carly did what she had to do to keep her baby!
      AJ was the one that messed up because their was one point when Carly was going to tryn be a family with AJ. It was right after the vacation they took, ( she told Jason that) but as soon she was AJ threatened her.
      Aj was a mess and alcoholic way before Carly even came to town so I dont see how people blame her and Jason for his messed up life. Like him having Michael would of changed him somehow! Well he did have the chance and all he did was use him to get in good with Edward to runs ELQ. He bailey played any attention to Michael when he lived with them. Than he kidnapped his own son and brainedwashed him into thinking they only parents he's known didnt love or want him anymore. Than when AJ "died" again , Monica told the whole world that it was Michael who killed him(when she was the one that helped him fake his death). Then when he once again came back from the dead and could have a relationship with Michael he once again used him to run ELQ and turn him against his parents again.

    I felt sorry for Lucky because he had a lot of bad breaks. While AJ was treated badly by his family, he made his choices. Just as Jason had to live with his choices so did AJ. The difference was Jason never whined and felt sorry for himself. He accepted what he had made of his life. AJ on the other hand was a whiner who never accepted the responsibility for his actions. In his mind, it was always someone else’s fault, usually Jason’s.
    Sonny didn’t have rights to Michael, but Carly did. Alan conviently forgets Carly.

    • @teamtony4623

      Hmmm. According to the neurosurgeon who treated Jason after the accident, Jason sustained irreversible damage to his frontal lobe, rendering him physically incapable of feeling emotion, his personality is learned, he mimics what he sees, has an adrenaline imbalance which triggers uncontrollable rage at the slightest provocation yet he cannot experience fear so he can't perceive danger for himself and others, and is mentally incapable of living in society much less raising a child. So it would seem you are giving Jason far too much credit and AJ too little.

    It is strange to look back at this powerful scene filled with grief and guilt only to realize that in a short time they are all going to realize that the guy they are anguishing over has faked his own death, arranged the kidnapping of three children, faked his own son’s death, and brainwashed him to the point where he is psychologically damaged, and tried to murder his father and his brother.
    Now I know AJ was treated badly by his family. He became an alcoholic in middle school because of an inferiority complex caused by Alan’s inability to love him, and was a full blown screw up by the time he was in high school. From then on it was a vicious circle. Eventually the entire family grew weary of AJ’s screwing up, and they would come down hard on him. But their disapproval was all the punishment he usually had to suffer.
    After every incident, he would be full of remorse and self pity. He would promise to quit drinking and turn his life around. And for awhile he would, but it never lasted. Because, while he could stop drinking, he could never be the person the family wanted him to be. He wasn’t strong enough or bright enough. And so he would mess up again and when called on it, he would get defensive and self pitying and soon he would be drinking again. He spent his life trying to measure up to the family’s expectations. And in a family of strong, successful, self confident, and self absorbed people, poor AJ never had a chance.
    But none of that excuses the sick, twisted things he did. Starting with the treatment of Courtney, and the kidnapping of three innocent children to get his revenge. And ending with shooting Alan who was helping him and trying to murder Jason. These were extreme measures for what he felt was done against him. Seriously, was what Jason did any worse than what AJ did to him? And was Cary taking his son, really any worse than what he intended to do to her? AJ was very aware of the things people had done to him, but did not seem to remember what he did to them. And as usual, , when AJ decided to act, it was a total screw up.
    The interesting thing is that while Jason was the family’s golden boy, after he had his accident, he too, could not measure up to the family’s expectations. Different reasons, but same result. The thing that saved Jason was hie lack of connection to them. He did not feel the need to need to please them or measure up to their expectations. Because of his memory loss and personality shift, to him they were just strangers, The concept of family literally had no meaning for him at that point.
    Jason recognized early on, that he could never be what or who they wanted him to be. So he left. If he had not, he would have been subjected to the same treatment as AJ. He was more strong minded than AJ, so where AJ caved in, Jason have fought them. And eventually they would have institutionalized him. Where with AJ, the only thing they could do was disown him; with Jason they would have had medical grounds to have him locked up.
    But he more or less forced them to let him leave on his own terms. But even then,if he had not gone to Sonny, Edward and Alan might still have decided to have him committed “for his own good.” They were certainly capable of it. But they waited too long and Jason got away to build his own life. Flawed as it was, was it any worse than what probably awaited him back at the Quartermaines?

    • @crayzeetony4367
      @crayzeetony4367 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Qs always underestimated AJ, didn't they? He was always calling them out on what they were guilty of and capable of, so they attacked him. He never needed to have the accident to give them an excuse. AJ was never a "full-blown screw-up" until SK took the role back over, but even early SK wasn't that. AJ was better than all of them and they knew it. His mistake was lowering himself to their level to compete and then lowering himself to his brother's criminal level. Oh, and yes, what Jason did WAS worse than what AJ did. Jason thought he was right, didn't he? About Michael, about AJ, about the Qs. A brain-damaged criminal thinks he's right about anything, much less KIDNAPPING his brother's son, and yes, J&C both did that. Keeping a child from its parent is custodial interference, and don't we all know now that that is a crime punishable by law? So Jason thought he was a hero rescuing his brother's child from the Qs when AJ wouldn't have raised his own child in the mansion in the first place. What a hero, protecting a child from all the danger mob life attracts, but wow, bullet-proof glass is the ultimate child-proofing, eh? AJ knew his actions were wrong and did them because he was put in that position, which he would never have bothered or lowered himself to otherwise. AJ was smarter than anyone gave him credit for and he let them slander and belittle him so they would underestimate him. Pretty sure no viewer disagrees with the opinion that the stalking s/l sucked, but here again, using Courtney was a desperate attempt to gain access to his son which should never have been necessary for PC's most eligible bachelor. Not bothering to read the rest of your pity party for Jason since I can hear the violins already. Oh the Qs were never going to institutionalized Jason, that would have embarrassed them since they were all about the optics. If they were going to, they should have done it when Jason kidnapped their grandson, but Jason was childproofed,eh? You seem to like the word screwup. I feel sorry for the people in your life.

    Folks seem to forget that AJ has faked his death, leaving his family to grieve for him. The fact that they favored Jason did not mean they did not love him at all. His bitterness and resentment made him hard to love. He has committed terrible acts against innocent children one of them his own son. No amount of pain and hurt feelings for the way he was treated excuses that.
    Remember AJ told Carly that if the baby was his, he was going to have her declared an unfit mother and take her baby away from her. She believed him and knew that she had no chance against him and the Quartermaine’s wealth and influence. She was desperate and did the only thing she thought she could do. Convince AJ that the baby was not his.
    Jason felt sorry for her and being influenced by his own experiences with the Quartermaine’s, agreed to help her. I can excuse him. Because of his brain injury, he really did not understand the right or wrong of the situation. It had been just a little over a year since his accident that left him brain damaged. Because he had recovered physically and appeared normal, people forget that he was mentally and emotionally impaired. His lack of memory and his injury had left him disconnected from the childhood experiences and training that help a person determine right from wrong. He had to learn that all over again. Remember how he was always asking, ‘What did I do wrong?”
    And as Robin explained to Patrick years later, he had an almost schizophrenic ability to be on one hand a good, warm, and loving person especially to those he loved, and on the other hand a cold and ruthless killer. All Jason saw in this case, was a friend who was desperate and in pain and he agreed to help. He himself later admitted he was wrong, but at the time he did what he thought was right.
    I feel if Jason could forgive AJ for the accident that robbed him of his future, AJ should have been able to forgive Jason for his actions that robbed him of his son. Neither understood at the moment what the impact of their actions would be.
    Much has been made of the family’s preferring jason to AJ and it was true. They did. But that was not Jason’s fault. He recognized it too, and tried often to change the situation, but he had no chance of doing so, especially with Alan.
    Alan was the main culprit when it came to the treatment of AJ. He gave him little credit and encouragement. He openly favored Jason and he constantly compared them. He condemned the rest of the family, but he set the tone with his actions.
    Both Jason and AJ suffered from serious conditions. Jason from cognitive impairment caused by an accident, and AJ from alcoholism caused from an inferiority complex. Both of them were victims of circumstances.
    But ultimately AJ and Jason both made their own choices. They caused a lot of pain to others, especially to those they loved and those who loved them. Both suffered losses because of the choices they made. Both nearly died from them. And AJ ultimately did. It remains to be seen what Jason’s fate will be. Personally, I am pulling for him.

      Interesting. Folks seem to forget? I wonder if you mean missed the point, which you seem to have done twice on this clip. AJ didn't fake his death and leave them to grieve for revenge, he did it to have a chance to connect with his son. Their "grief" was collateral damage, and nonexistent to boot, at least what the Qs considered grief to be. Whatever her reasons, Carly was capable of making different choices. You make it sound like she had no other choice, was driven to it, but AJ is villified for the choices he made, so why shouldn't Carly be? OK, did Jason forgive AJ? If he did, great. I'm sure AJ would have been able to forgive Jason too, if AJ wasn't perpetually denied access to his son. Pull for whoever you please, I don't see how or why that would affect anyone else's opinion. You have a familiar comment style. I must have seen it somewhere before.

      @@crayzeetony4367 this PJ first attempt at death so all of what you said was crap......he didn't die then to reconnect with his son.....and if you consider kidnapping a realistic way of connecting with ur child then I feel sorry for you.....Allan was the main cause of PJ turning out how he did.....stop ignoring the facts to justify crap.
