General Hospital - July 1998 - Alan's Drug Addiction Part 1

  • Part 1. Alan calls his dealer to score some pills. He's not fooling AJ or Edward. While Alan spaces out, AJ and Edward strategize on how to get Michael away from Carly. Justus, who now works for Jason, lets AJ and Edward have it for causing Carly to lose it. (Carly's faking btw). Next morning, Alan is in a fine drug induced mood. He's so loopy he's not making sense. Jason comes to threaten Edward and gets into it with AJ. Alan wants them all to have a picnic so that they can resolve their differences. Jason tells them that the next time they try for custody of Michael, remember that there's a junkie living under their roof.
    These series of clips will take us from July into December (I've already uploaded December's drug addiction clips). Some of these are pretty painful to watch as we watch Alan descend into darkness.
    It's easier if you watch the entire playlist: www.youtube.com...
    Background:
    I kept the "Previously on GH" so that we'd know what other storylines were going on at this time. At this point, they still think that Michael is Jason's son. They're not aware that he's AJ's. Robin has come back from Paris and is helping Jason raise Michael. Carly is trying to avoid jail (for shooting Tony at Tony's trial) by pretending her pillow is Michael (it backfired, she's now being transferred to a hospital for the criminally insane right before Jason had her release all worked out.) Bobbie's having a relationship with Jerry Jacks (the real one!), Mac and Felicia are about to get married, Jax and Brenda are together again.

    @Holden2003hr Alan started using hydrocodone (I think) in 1996 when he had his hand operated on by the late and detested Dr. Dorman (or as Emily called him, Dr. Dorkman). It's an innocent enough scene ... his hand is in pain and he takes some pills prescribed by Dorman. As the show went on, they depicted him taking the pills more and more until it erupted into a full blow storyline. The writers took the time to develop this storyline...something that you don't see these days.

      Oh yea! Definitely started in 1996, I remember even when he found out (Sean’s AJ) was drinking again in 1997 he was taking those pills more and more

    Thank you pxlbarrel for putting up the Alan storyline. I remember this. :'( Alan doesn't look so good. :(
    Alan: Love. Love will keep us together.
    Are you going to start singing Alan? ROFL!
    Jason: You're stoned.
    ROFL!

      Yeah, as awful as Alan's condition is-and it is-I was laughing hysterically when I first saw this as a teenager, but I didn't get the enormity of what was really happening then

    he's not yours either jason....funny thing is Sonny would never allow another man to raise his child yet Jason expects AJ to.

      That's not true either if baby Lila hadn't died Jason was going to raise Sonny's daughter with Sam!!

      I skipped that storyline your correct there however its still AJ's son not Jason's and I feel he's wrong and he admitted it years later and it was validated further when MIchael wanted to get to know his father inspite of all the naysayers flaws and all.

      Donnalyn Matteson .... that isn’t true either to an extent. Sonny knew he was the father and chose not be man up and take care of his kid. Same with Jason when Jake came along.

      Hot Chocolate And just how was Sonny supposed to “man up” as you put it? Was he supposed to take Sam’s baby away from her and tell Carly she had to accept her into their family? That is if she did not take the kids and leave. Or was he suppose to leave his current family and go live with Sam and her baby? And hope Carly would let him see the boys? The third option was to acknowledge the baby as his but agree to leave her with Sam and stay with Carly and the boys, and hope Carly did not leave. That is what he did once Carly cooled off enough to accept the situation. So I guess Sonny did “man up” after all.
      Jason offered to marry Elizabeth when he thought her baby might be his. He wanted to acknowledge his son. But he was worried for his safety. And subsequent events proved he had a reason to worry. But Elizabeth was scared. She put pressure on him because of the danger and because of Lucky. Several times Jason brought up being in Jake’s life. He wanted that. He would have married her, given up Sam, but every time Elizabeth shot him down. She played on his guilt and his sense of responsibility to get him to play along. Maybe he was wrong. Who knows? But sometimes giving up a child you love is the way to man up.

    Thank you for posting these. I never got to see this s/l when it aired, so I'm looking forward to watching Stuart Damon at his finest. Even if it will be painful (and I have no doubt it will be).

      If GH returned to how it was before, it wouldn't need any kind of mob boss.

    Now this is why i never felt any remorse that family or those people.....they were cold blooded and manipulative.....and they respected no one.....they were criminals and they had a lot of dirty laundry that they worked very hard to hide.....they were no better than Sonny.....they were worse.....they hid behind their social standing to fool people but they were so much worse.

      By this time, Alan was using heavily through early 1997 - during the Dorman trial through to this time - summer 1998. Alan was taking Vicodin after his first surgery - fall of 1996 - and Dorman really encouraged him to take them - but did not become addicted until the hand injury.

    Why does Edward even want Michael so bad

    • @beegee1960
      @beegee1960 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because he is a Quartermaines. He sees all his heirs as flawed. Alan went into medicine, Tracy is a bitch who has tried several times to steal ELQ from him. Ned is the most competent, but he has a singing career which Edward views as a weakness. A J is a hopeless drunk as well as a screw up. Jason is a mob enforcer. Dillion’s interest lies in film, not business. Justus is a lawyer and too independent for Edward’s comfort. There are no more children or grandchildren on the horizon. He sees Michael as his last hope.
      Basically he wants someone to mold into an image of himself, someone to step in and run ELQ when he is gone.

    • @sherryoneal1740
      @sherryoneal1740 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Because Quartermains are all about family whether it's a Son or a daughter or a grandson or a granddaughter or a great grandson or a great granddaughter doesn't matter as long as it's a family member of some kind everybody wants to mold them from a very young age into whatever they think will fit their Persona to be the head of ELQ their Birthright. Practically every single Rich family goes through this and there's almost always a rebel in the bunch and in this case it would be Jason Morgan because he's no longer a Quartermaine but he understands the craziness that goes on in that household and Jason doesn't want to see any other child taken advantage of because the Quartermaines are very selfish all they do is fight and lie and cheat and play dirty tricks on one another steal from one another corporate raid each other it's just not a good atmosphere for children to be brought up in. So everyone wants Michael to play some part in their War against each other and Jason doesn't want Michael to grow up that way no child really but especially not Michael.

    Keeping Michael for himself and dumping Carly is what AJ would have done in this situation. He can’t believe that Jason wasn’t thinking the same thing. He tries to judge Jason by his own standards.
    Do you people who condemn Jason for his actions believe that Nelle should have custody of Wiley? Some fans actually believe she should. She is his mother after all just as Michael was AJ’s son. But what is technically “right” is not always best.
    If Jason could have raised Michael with no interference, it would have been the best thing for Michael. The bad things that happened to him, happened because he was removed from Jason’s care.
