I would love to live in a small village like this as there seems to be more community spirit there than in London. Community spirit is certainly gone in many parts of the UK and I miss it.

There was a slight insinuation that Brexit is a threat to this village. In my view, this village and its leadership epitomises why Brexit needs to happen. Big government is dangerous the people and two big governments are even worse. More devolution of power is needed to regions, sub regions and cities. Allowing governments to remain big and get bigger will lead to even more discontent and eventual social collapse.

I love this small and quaint villages. Honestly, when I first arrived in the UK from Singapore, I am just amazed to see the small town along the train journey from Newcastle to Central Haymarket. 😍 And my first local trip was to Peak District. Urghhh, I wish we have this kind of quaint village in Singapore. 😅

this is true, when UK returns to city states system like the ancient time Greece. every city is self sufficient and trading with other cities. applaud to them, have their own petrol station and their own oil field and oil refinery. they have their own laptop with their own internet connection. they build their own electricity. they have their own bank and their own money. everything is their own. bless them.

What a wonderful example to justify Brexit. Being independent works. Large Corporations and Central Government look at cost effectiveness, and services are cut. There should be less tax going to Central Government and the EU, and more kept locally to provide services for that Community, instead of regarding them as a liability. The whole of the UK can be self sufficient.

Seems a driven and logical man. I wonder what planning the creamery has done for WTO export tariffs of 35.9% assuming the most likely outcome of a no deal. I'm not trying to be glib; I guess the plan would be to try and sell more internally.

@Saviour AI And what exactly is the EU's attitude? What exactly should the EU be doing? Currently it is abiding by the UK's self-imposed red lines, and protecting one of its member states, Eire. Pray tell, what should the EU be doing when presented with such nebulous plans from the UK?

@Clint Rockfist In one year, both the EU and the UK will still exist in much the same form as post-Brexit, but they will be institutionally weaker. Any referendum on Scottish independence is not likely for three or four years, and for N. Ireland it would be perhaps five years down the line (although probably more. One year is nothing in geopolitical terms. The undeniable fact, however, is that both the EU and the UK are disintegrating.

Combating Urbanization 101 - It's amazing how some people seem to get it, and most people don't. Without these community efforts the cities would have crumbled even faster, and likely would have resulted in developing ghosttowns barely worth a visit. If the City's Creamerie indeed employs roughly 200 workers it is a good stimuli to the roughly 1.200 population of Hawes. Which I'll remind you had a downgoing population until the 2011 census, and increase the number of dwellings used for living in the area. Which suggests that the initiative have at least stopped some of the decay in general. This is what should have been done to the countryside instead of the absurd belief that leaving the European Union would bring back 40-50 years of decline in these communities. It is true not every community will have the ability to stimulate an self-sustaining economy, but those that will be able to, will move into the future with the rest of us. The comforts of modern cities needs to be present in these communities for people wanting to live there. And let's be honest with initiatives and people like John Blackie, it can be done. But it takes people willing to take these initatives and working to keep their cities alive, instead of whining at the TV or on the Internet that politiicians are ruining everything.
John Blackie is an ageing pentioneer willing to pull his load, now tell me again why you are not able to pull yours?

ONLY A FOOL TRUSTS IN HIMSELF...THE WISE TRUST IN THE LORD JESUS CHRIST!
"He who trusts in himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is kept safe." (Proverbs 28:26 NIV)
So sincerely "...Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:38) He will teach you, comfort and protect you, and help you trust and obey our Lord Jesus Christ, even in the face of death, so you may receive the crown of life. Your destiny is to become like Jesus (a true child of God). He is our example. God purposed to make those He chose like His Son, Jesus, so you can live with Him forever in the Kingdom of Heaven (which is coming to earth soon) and bring Him eternal glory (Romans 8:29). Praise God for Jesus!

Not very tempting. Atheism with Socialism and Capitalism combined like countries like Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland offer much better future than Jesus. Look at these countries. They are the BEST because of Atheism and good education. Don't you agree that is better? Right?
