It’s a lovely piece. Mine came this week. But know that this is a manually wound watch, so that means that every 12 to 24 hours you will have to reset and wind the watch to keep it functioning. And that’s the charm of it, I think. The movement is a throwback to a time where gentlemen would have to reset, and wind their watches daily to the central time in the town clock. But I love the multi directional, bezel, and the response on the first pusher. Plus watching the gears work while the watch is being used through all the display case back is a delicious gift from this manufacturer. While it has its charm, just be aware of its caveats. Enjoy.
Sugess has alot of other chronograph watches in completely different styles and sizes that utilize the ST19 movement. Some are dressy, some are sporty, some are classic, some are a mix of classic and modern, but they have so many different styles and looks to chose from if you're looking on for a Chrono. I have one of their other ST19 watches in a different style, and everything that applies to this watch applies to the one I received too. The quality and finishing is absolutely amazing, the movement and dials always look super clean and well finished, spotless hands and perfectly aligned hands/markers, the quality is absolutely amazing for the $200 price, and I highly recommend you check them out, Most of their watches come in bracelets if you have that preference too lol It's been running 2 years strong so far 😎
I have a Sugess 40mm panda dial. $170 on Ali. Upgraded to a nicer black leather strap with white stitching and I couldn't be happier. Could stare at that ST1901 movement all day. 😁
Had mine for about a month and wow! I got the rose gold pvd version and it is amazing. Ditched the factory strap for a midnight blue padded suede strap from watch gecko. Wears perfect on my 6 3/4 inch wrist. My sixth Sugess and the best so far.
Nice review! Looks to be a very nice watch. Sugess are the kings of the ST19 movements. I own 6 of them now and so far so good. I haven't had a problem with any of them.
Some have stated that the bezel configuration is the same as the Blancpain, but not so. The Sugess actually has a countdown bezel. This also explains why it's bidirectional. Still should have 60 or 120 clicks though.
Gmt bezels are bi directional not timing. Thats why its 24 click, its a gmt bezel with the indices of a timing bezel. I bet the click spring could be swapped out though
I just got it in. This watch is amazing for the price. Exactly the same quality will be at least 4000 dollar when this watch would have been made in Germany or Switserland. The execution is flawless. The bezel action amazing, the dial super sharp, the case finishing, the leather strap, the lume..it all is really amazing. It is that undefined feeling when you handle the watch, that screams quality. And then the movement. I have seen so many reviews of the ST19, but all say that it only looks nice from a distance. This movement looks to me quite impressing at first sight. So I went in with a loupe....and really, it is beautiful. Polished silver parts, golden parts, blued screws, even some striping. This is a thing of absolute beauty, also with a loupe. Very, very pleased with this amazing watch.
I have 6.5 wrist as well and tried on Blancpain Air Command 36mm - way too small (it’s a lady’s chrono watch for sure). The 38 - 40mm of this would be a holy grail.
Reminds me a lot of the Leonidas cp1 and cp2, which were issued to the Italian air force in the 50s. Zenith and breitling made homages to those two models later on
I bought this exact version and it had lots of quality issues unfortunately. It came with the reset pusher fallen out, which I was able to fix, the Chrono sometimes doesn't engage and the seconds counter hand often resets too far. Besides that, the quality for this extremely low price is amazing.
They did, and I don't get the idea behind that. 38 would have been the sweet spot with those long lugs, 36 mm seems more suitable for Tom Cruise sized persons. Maybe they took a stab at providing something awesome for the female market?
It’s probably an unpopular opinion but I wish they’d make this with a vk63. This watch looks incredible and I’d probably wear it daily but I fear the movement might not hold up to rigours.
Really nice review. I have their previous BRTL homage and after regulating the movement it runs at stable chronometer level. In regards to the “subjective problem” mine is reversed where 38-40 is a bit small for my 23cm wrist so this one might be a better fit.
I actually bought the Zenith hommage, great watch, this looks cool too. I've got the 1953 butas you pointed out the swan neck is standard on the Sugess models, super cool movement. Baltic actually did a micro rotor auto version.😮
I'm not sure I understand what the purpose of a rotating bezel on a chronograph is? It's very pretty... It isn't going to work for under a 7.5 inch wrist.
Gorgeous. As a personal preference, I just do not like it when the 2, 4, 8 and 10 indexes are cut. I admire watch designs that avoid it, notably the 39mm Hanhart 417ES (which is way up on my “must have” list).
You mean a 12-hour bezel, since the hour hand is set for 12 hours (i.e. moves 30 degrees every 60 minutes). A 24-hour bezel is for a 24-hour hand like a GMT hand (i.e. moves 15 degrees every 60 minutes). This is surprisingly one of the most common misunderstandings in the watch hobby. The problem becomes obvious if you just imagine 24 on the bezel aligned with 12 on the dial. When the hour hands points at 2 on the bezel, it also points at 1 on the dial. Obviously only the latter is correct.
I have the rose gold blue dial as well. It is definitively not bronze, it is PVD coated rose gold. Polished and brushed surfaces. That watch is very beautiful. You have to see it in person to believe it. The movement looks even more impressive because the rose gold case and the gold coloured parts are complementing each other. Same price, total different look. Very impressed with that watch.
I was almost dreading this review since the unboxing I pretty much knew I'd be pulling the trigger on this beautiful watch and the price is totally reasonable Even though I've exceeded my trigger time for this year but I'm going to blame you entirely lol Thank you my friend Always appreciate and enjoy your killer content 👍
What's the point of a 24-click bezel for a 60-minute countdown timer? I know the original was bi-directional, but was it also 24-click? If so I can't imagine why. It seems like they just re-used their 24h GMT bezel because it's bi-directional, without changing the number of clicks. Incredibly lazy if so.
Very similar to the Hemel watches but without the vintage lume and the £500 price tag! If they do a vintage lume version that would be amazing- love the Hamilton pioneer aviation chronograph and have been looking for an Aliexpress alternative for almost 6 months
Don't think they can make a smaller size of this due to the ST19 movement they used. They won't be able to keep the proportion of the watch especially when there is so much going on beyond the circumference of the 2 sub-dials (tachymeter & bezel). No dice, guys. 😞
My guy - I just got this watch delivered (11/11 business). I'll admit, it's the second watch bought on your recommendation (after the Merkur Super-Willard). This Sugess is straight 🔥. Big up to u
I must be very unlucky. I've had two Sugess chronographs - one moon phase and the other a straightforward chrono - and both failed within three weeks. The moon phase stop watch function stuck, which led the timekeeping function to fail and my other chronograph refused to operate as a chronograph and also stopped functioning. Very disappointing. Initially I was delighted and thought what amazing value. Sadly not. I've learnt my lesson.
Would have been great with a bronze case option! But it seems it's actually rose-gold and not bronze? Over all a beautiful watch... Dangerous for me to be watching this since I've already bought several from Aliexpress in the recent sales... The wonderful world of Aliexpress watches... I can't seem to have enough of it..
Hi, I got one and I suspect Sugess using tritium lume... what’s your thought ? Mine is still glowing (very slightly) after 2 days in the box. Thanks ! Thanks !
I don't understand the bezel. First, the numbers appear to be the wrong way around. Second, what possible reason is there for a 24 click bidirectional bezel on a non-GMT watch? In fact, why a rotating bezel at all on a chronograph?
Its a homage to the blancpain air command which has the same numerical configuration on the bezel for pilot watches and is also a chronograph. The only thing im unsure of is whether the BP air command has a 24 click bidirectional bezel
It can help you use the chronograph for over 30 minutes. Set the bezel at the start time, let the chronograph go. Let 3 hours pass, get the minutes for the chrono and the hours (or half hours) from the bezel? Not really sure, but it's the only thing that makes sense to me.

Maybe, just maybe, that helps you remember where the hour hand was, and lets you use the chrono for over 30 minutes. Like, if it's 7:10, you set the bezel at 7 and start the chrono. at 9:15 the chrono should show 5 minutes, and you can add the 2 hours looking at where the bezel points from the beginning.
