The tradition is the Sovereign riding on horseback. Elizabeth kept up the tradition until 1987 when she was 61. Since then she went by carriage. This year, for his first Trooping the Colour”, Charles rode a horse.
Why would it be a surprise that King Charles rode his horse for the parade? It is the done thing for the Monarch to ride his/her horse rather than ride in a carriage. All those bands making me nostalgic for my banding days. Those heavy horses, Juno an Apollo, always melt my heart with those drums beating on their backs.
