Well hats off to neversoft to be honest. Kinda impressive when you think about the fact, they did tony hawk all their life, until they got shut down by the time ghosts was released. 😔😔
Clearly was an engine test more than anything but it's a really cool cinematic piece. This was definitely the inspiration for Advanced & Infinite Warfare
This is what I miss of the newer COD campaigns and specially for the now ruined and wasted potential of the MW reboot saga, being a random soldier with 0 background just fighting on the lines while everyone else is dying. This footage feels really gritty and cinematic like the original campaigns, you feel in danger and a small part of something big that's happening around you and seeing the consequences in your face. Now developers treat their characters like the Marvel/Fast and Furious cast, invincible and isolated from the rest of the world.
Agreed. All the recent cod characters just feel extremely Hollywood. What made COD campaign so special is because of the stakes at play for every character. As cool as new Ghost is, he’s literally just an unbeatable Special Warfare Michael Bay character. Theirs literally no threat to him. Same goes for Captain Price.
this is nothing new and acting like most cods weren't like this is delusional. they've always been trying to emulate Hollywood. when price and soap were on a boat chasing a general down a ravine while avoiding hundreds of soldiers did you really sit there and think "this is what the average soldier does" advanced warfare, iw, black ops, ghosts, even the OG mw trilogy to some extent all tried their best to be cinematic and over the top. although I think the OG mw games had the best balance cod 1-3, Waw are the only exceptions to this
@@GetShrekd The thing you are missing is that those characters are not the only ones you control in the campaigns, because in the MW and Black Ops Games sometimes you would be someone random like Paul Jackson or even Frost fighting in big battles, not only with TF141. Also no, The original MW characters were not treated the same like they do today because even back then they felt and were vulnerable. Price got injured in COD 4, and then he was a Prisoner in MW2. Soap got injured at the end of MW2 and that's what killed him in MW3 because his wound reopened. Majority of the SAS crew in MW3 died while chasing a metro train, the whole Delta Force, Allen, Kamarov etc, even protagonists were vulnerable. In MWIII 2023 Price inhaled what was supposed to be (An extremely lethal gas) and absolutely nothing happened to him in the whole game and there were 0 hints of it being dangerous for him, that's just dumb, and didn't happened with the old campaigns
@GetShrekd I think the big difference is tone and presentation. In every video game ever made, the player character is "literally him," even In the most grounded of games. Player is always the most dangerous person in the room, and it's not even close. So there's always gonna be a Hollywood main character feel to these types of games, and they player is always going to have to suspend their disbelief to a degree. What's important is how they are presented and written. I almost want to say that there's a bit of self-awareness needed to pull it off. In older cods there were always a number of other soldiers along side you, so even if you were doing the majority of the heavy lifting, it doesn't feel as contrived. Even where there aren't many others, it's usually a stealth mission or you have some clear higher ground. I'm mostly thinking of CoD4 as I type this because I think that's the perfect example of set building and writing. In the middle east you were going loud with the fury of the US Marine Corps behind you. When you were in Azerbaijan with only a few buddies, you had a helicopter or gunship helping you out. Newer cods lack this most of the time, and even some from the golden era didn't do it well at times (the boat scene you mentioned). The art of game writing and scene building is making a believable experience out of an unbelievable situation.
