I ordered a Franklin back in mid-February during his introductory drop in the Buck Brown color. It's the "Goldilocks" of his lineup. Perfectly sized right between the Finnigan and the Big Finn without the thickness and bulk.

I have been looking at Lost Dutchman for my next wallet, mainly at the Big fin or the Finnigian. My decision just got a lot more complicated with this option, especially at the price. Clearly a great company with innovative designs. This is a good looking wallet, and no-stich wallets are growing on me, but I must admit I like the aesthetics that colour accents of thread can provide, plus the cleaner front and back surfaces are slightly more appealing to me.

Coming back to this review because I purchased the Franklin after watching this video, but you can actually fold NA (US/CA) cash in half and slot it in where the tab holds the wallet together at the back, one layer above the quick carry card slot! I figured that way you could organize the wallet as:
    1) Internal card pocket: Archived/less used cards
    2) External card slot: Most used card
    3) Additional fold at back: Cash

@@ImTerero Fits well, it is basically the height of a credit card and maybe only 2 cm wider. If you want something even slimmer and mostly carry cards, you can get the smaller version (mini Franklin) , which is super small and basically the size of a credit card.

Ordered this wallet about 6 weeks ago. Absolutely loved it for the first few weeks. However, I'm now quite disappointed because after breaking in, my quick access card easily would fall out (which is the exact reason I got a new wallet). I started putting two cards in to make a tighter fit, then three...I am now looking for a new wallet without a quick access slot. If you have to put 4 cards in a quick access slot, to me it kinda defeats the purpose. It's not quick access if you have to pull all the cards out to find the one you want. If you are putting multiple cards in the slot, this wallet is definitely for you. It's awesome. But not for me, unfortunately.

Beautiful wallet and I am very happy for the maker. Talented. The only thing is that the rankings is a bit strange. Even though this is a nice wallet, why is it better than Open Sea Leather Houbei for example? But I understand that is is just base on Mark's taste. I personally find the Houbei design more utilitarian. I won't speak about looks because that is subjective, but the Houbei has more pockets, better quick access pocket, and the little stitching is reliable and a standout feauture. Both wallets are nice, again, I just don't get the rankings 😊

    • @vuk0625
      @vuk0625 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Open Seas Leather do seem like they would be a good alternative to this. I haven't thought about the company for a while, I'll have to look at their offerings again, thanks for the reminder. The rankings are obviously quite subjective. I see them more as a guideline for people who aren't able to handle the product themselves before purchase. I don't think anyone should be dismissing a wallet that interests them based on a slightly lower score.

Open Seas has one stitchless wallet which I’ll be reviewing very soon. Stitchless versus sewn wallets are (obviously) designed and executed differently, so I rank them separately.
That said, I try to keep my review and rankings as unbiased as I can. I’m headed to Hawaii so I plan on stopping by Open Seas to say hello to Michael. I’ll let him know your appreciation for his wallets.

I collect wallets. I have eight or nine from Open Sea and a few from the Das Offene Meer days. I also have 3 from Lost Dutchman, including the Franklin. The Franklin is by far my favorite top loading wallet. The other top loading wallets I have are stitched together and it constricts the contents and makes it hard to get cash in and out. The stitchless design of the Franklin allows for it to be more flexible and it’s easier to work with cash. Currently I have the Open Sea Stitchless wallet in my back pocket (it’s like a gundeck with a whole lot of extra positives in my opinion). These two are my favorites of any I have right now.

An incredible score for a boring wallet……… BUT it truly is a great 5* wallet. 🤩 Let me explain - being stitchless and made to a perfect size, it just looks so damn plain and boring *yawn* However, it fits nearly all notes and a wedge of cards into such a small, compact wallet that it is actually pretty epic. I am so confused right now! 😂 Part of me thinks it’s boring and the other half is on his website now ordering one. It’s making me feel ‘strange’ 🤨 I don’t know what’s going off. 🤔 Superb score for a well made and designed wallet. Absolutely superb job Nate. Well done to you Sir 👊🏻🤩

I just want to say Thank You. I watched a ton of your reviews before I ended up going with this wallet and happy I did. You have some great reviews and looking at all these wallets, it's made me want to start maybe having a few to alternate from. I will probably end up getting a WIllow Craft Luxe Minimalist and Tauruscamp Base Wallet. I've never been a big fan of a lot of the store bought wallets and have wasted money on high end designer ones which didn't last as long as it should have.

I think the usability of this wallet is a bit overstated. Most of your cards would be all jumbled together, meaning you'd have to take them all out to find the one you want.
In addition, the flap feels figitty. I feel like if I was in a rush at a store, this wallet would take me a lot longer to pay than some others would.

Just got mine in the mail along with a finnigan. I have to say, for one who loves micro wallets, the finnigan was perfect for me! I didn’t mind folding up the cash at all. It’s a small price to pay for space saving properties.
I must say, however, that I’m a little disappointed with the Franklin. Firstly, the leather. I’m not too familiar with the W&C harness leather being used, so please forgive my ignorance for finding the leather like plastic in the way it looks, sounds (squeaky), feels (the glaze feels like a layer of plastic, and it is super inconsistent cos it’s rough where the folds are, like micro fractures in plastic when it’s stretched/bent), and heck it even smells like plastic! And the leather is super thick! I compared the russet side by side with the buck brown, and it was easily 50% thicker on the russet. Not a good choice for a no-stitch wallet cos all that folding adds up to the thickness.
Secondly, I feel the quick draw weakens the integrity of the leather. A cut of almost 70% across the width of the leather would definitely cause it to weaken, and I think it partially contributes to the stretching out of the leather. It wouldn’t matter if you kept the number of cards consistent in your wallet, that slot will still stretch out with time and there’s nothing to hold it in.
Thirdly, I don’t know if it’s just me, but when using as a cash wrap, I always accidentally pull out a card when taking out a note, or vice versa if I’m removing the card at the back, a note will fall out. So I’m constantly reminding myself to hold on to things or risk having money or cards on the floor.
All that being said, I still think the design is phenomenal, especially the finnigan. If there’s one thing I can change about it, it would be having the sides higher to completely cover the sides of the cards and not leave them exposed. As for the Franklin, I’ll try to carry it more to see if it’ll grow on me. It certainly wasn’t love at first sight.

It’s a little plain for my taste but still a great looking wallet nonetheless. I am currently carrying the base wallet from Taurus camp. I love the way you access cash along with the quick access card slots in the back. I rarely have to open the wallet at all.

Not really sure why but stitchless wallets doesn't really appeal to me. I guess I don't like it when you can easily disassemble the wallet. I like it to be more permanent. Even the aesthetics... minimally stiched wallets still looks better for me. Like the Open Sea Leather and the Tauruscamp wallets.
But Lost Dutchman Leather does make awesome wallets as well. But I would rather get the Big Finn even with the price difference. Or even the Finnegan for a more minimalist style.

I recently purchased the Franklin wallet and couldn’t be happier. My concern is that the Canadian dollar is a fraction wider than the US dollar , would this cause tearing of the leather on the sides of the wallet when bills are folded over and guided in the front slot? The leather is quite thin.

Great review and great wallet! I recsntly gotnit and it's a new favorite if mine. I have one question/concern about it and would love any thoughts you have... I usually am not I big user of a quick access slot, I think mainly because I just like a clean/covered look of my wallets. For listening to your reviews, you kind of sold me on it to give a try. So I tried it with a wallet, and I noticed that my credit card feels a little loose in a quick access slot. If I turn it upside down and give a little shake, it moves and sometimes even falls out. I don't know why I would ever turn a wallet upside down and shake it, but it did make me worry a little bit about the security of say a credit card there. Do you find that there are any issues of cards falling out?
