That big flagstone piece was a really good teaching aid because I knew nothing about colour glints from cracks and that showed it so well especially the bit when the fragment popped out x

Hello Mr. Justin. I've been watching you cut these stones for a few months now. I'm glad I have. I had no idea opal was so valuable and the colors are amazing. I will be adding opal to my jewelry selection from now on. Now I know what to look for and questions to ask to get a bonafide quality opal. Thank you so much and keep up the wonderful work. Enjoying every moment of your expertise and wonderfully colorful personality.

I also missed you but looking now. I'm from Belgium and when you go live during the day it's night for us here. Recently bought very nice boulder opal from Australia but it takes a long time to reach in Belgium. I also love black opal and say your beautiful website. I've been looking at i guess almost all your video's. So relaxing to see you work on opals. Love what you do so please keep on cutting these beauty's into amazing gems.

Just to let you know, we absolutely use the terms "stoked" and "sketchy" here in America. Terms that are more Aussie would be "fairdinkum" and "chock 'o' block." I have no clue what they mean, but Crocodile Steve forever put them in my vocabulary lol. Australian town names are so colorful, just like opal. I've sat and laughed for hours before reading off your town names.

Just a thought. Video every stone that you sell, and talk through it like you do here. Include the recording when selling the peice. I think it gives each gem a story rather than just another thing from the jewelry store. ( simple stored on a small memory chip) I absolutely enjoy what you do.

Could you cut some good faded fire opal for examples of what it would look like shaped as as good large stone. Really enjoy the dome shaped stones. Great commentary as you polish the stones Could you also take a large potch stone and polish it to show the method of producing a nice shaped domed stone. Won’t be much but your marvelous ability could show a great black potch stone

36:44 @Black Opal Direct try to go deeper on the polishing wheel, it looks kinda like script/chevron patterns IMO..also when you shine the light through it it looks like you may have enough potch between the 2 color bars to slice it!..the dark blue side may end up with little to no potch but its worth a shot! Might end up with a couple nice lil gems you didnt expect!

    ALOHA, Justin, and Melinda!
So, I have cut, rubbed, and polished a small parcel of rough recently. When I was at a fellow lapidarian's house, I went ahead, and shined a blacklight on em, just out of curiosity.
They flouresce for certain, which I expected. What I did not expect, was that in a dark room, I'd shine the black light on them, and they would flouresce, but I'd turn off the blacklight with the lights still off, and the stones continued to flouresce for between 10-15 seconds. What causes that?

I don’t think it was there before but not sure. It’s still very beautiful but if it’s cracked could I be at risk of losing the stone out of the setting?
