    We had a 1017 version with the double cab and insulated box made by zeppelin, 4 speed, bugger it was slow and gutless went all over Europe U.K. and Morocco, the best thing was we had an account with Mercedes and could get parts in 3 days considering it was old they still have parts, enjoy the epic truck and it brings back some good memories

      The 1222 is a steady nice drive, i’d say plenty of power with a cruising speed of around 50mph. Did you have the high ratio diffs Tim?

      @@Overlandtraveladventure yes mine also 50mph but maybe 60 downhill, bought it from expedition trucks, sold it to an Israeli who then shipped it to Latin America, happy travels

      Thankyou Bjorn, its works for us. We look at various layouts and going for a layout with internal walls added strength to the box and also added loads of storage possibilities.

    Really good build! And the interior is nice and cosy!
    My Unimog is 1965 and I don't need an underride bar. It is needed from 1967+. Im so happy about it.
    I really like the mercedes SK. Maybe if I want a bigger camper I would buy a crewcab SK 4x4 with a bit longer wheel base.
    I like the roofline of your box with the rear a bit higher. It looks so good 😍

    • @Overlandtraveladventure
      @Overlandtraveladventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Victor and thanks, the inside we’ve used a lot of reclaimed timber and also given the camper different areas.. like u say, that cosy feel.
      The under run we also don’t need but I guess its stops reversing accidents 😂
      The mercs are very good, we was going to get the uimog1300L but could only get a 4.7m box on the back! We needed the 5.7 space for full time living. 😔

    Great build. I love the reclaimed wood panelling, and that bathroom is so spacious! What is the wheelbase length of the truck, and the length and width of the habitation box?

    • @Overlandtraveladventure
      @Overlandtraveladventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The wheel base is very short, of the top of my head its under 4m.
      Overall length of vehicle is 8.25m. The box is 5.7m x 2450mm… hight is just under 3.6m - weight 9.5t hope this helps… 😃👍🏼

    Great review there, thank you.
    Do you have to have 6wk checks?
    And if you have been abroad for along time let's say your Mot runs out how do stand abroad and also return to UK.
    IV got my hgv so know the UK laws but never been abroad with one only in a small van.

    • @Overlandtraveladventure
      @Overlandtraveladventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thankyou Marc, theres no six weekly checks as the campers class is motorcaravan (motorhome) so the MOT is the same as any other car or motorhome in the UK.
      now the mot can be done before a departure which will cover you for upto 12 months away, any longer then you’re best off to sorn the vehicle in the uk and then just buy insurance in the country that you’re entering. (I believe)

      @@marcobrian1619 there’s pros and cons of a lorry, if used correctly it can work out very cheap.
      I’ve I tried to explain it, it would take me all night 😂 if you haven’t done already, check out one of my last vlogs about overland MPG where i touch on the subject…
      Maybe also pay a visit to the overland, camper van/van life show in Staffordshire this coming bank holiday weekend. Many trucks and campers of all sizes.. I’ve also covered this show in a vlog too! if you can make it, come and find us, we’ll be there and i’ll always chat. 😁👍🏼

      Hi, I imagine every country will have it own methods of payment and vehicle papers/procedure in dealing with vehicles. Google would be a starting point. Then once you find a vehicle get on a plane and meet the seller… 🤷🏽‍♂️

    I'm planning to build something similar based on German ex fire truck 1222af.You made me thinking about the wheels (my first thought was off road tyres on 20.5inch rims) Whats the wheels size and offset of the rims on your truck and tyres size?

    • @Overlandtraveladventure
      @Overlandtraveladventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Morning Jacek
      We went for the Dunlop SP346 m+s 385/65R 22.5
      Not sure now about the offset but think it was around 220mm or 250mm along time ago now 😁
