Excellent lecture. Clearest explication of this subject I have been able to find. I might only quarrel with the use of the term ‘raga’ as a synonym for mode or scale; however if even Messiaen couldn’t manage to learn what a raga actually is, I perhaps couldn’t reasonably expect every other Western composer to.
While JCR is obviously a genius, I found it quite difficult for some reason to actually take anything solid away from this lecture. Perhaps it is because I am not on the same intellectual plane, or that JCR (for me) does not remain on one specific topic enough for it to be grasped by the viewer? I just found it quite difficult to 'get into' as such. But thank you CIRMMT for posting.
