I, like him, are still here but he has been a great role model for gay people especially the younger ones as they struggle to come to terms with things it's nice to point these high profile jobs and think that... I could do that or this... more sporting people (like Gareth Thomas the former Welsh internation) to just say it is ok... you can reach dreams. The day when I can hold hands in public with my husband like just a couple and not get spat on is the day when all the charities that help LBGT+ people can close help centres etc is the day we won't need to 'come out' you can just be yourself. Thanks Nigel... will be a shame when you retire.
i'm from totally non-rugby country (slovakia). however, rugby is getting quite popular especially since the last world cup which was on telly and people had a chance to see it live in the pubs. what an amazing sport ! what i love is the role of referee - THE boss on the pitch, respect from the players, playback of the controverse actions... look, i speak quite good english, but sometimes i might not get the point, especially when people speak with thick accent or so. simply it takes a little bit longer to focus on another english))) plus when they deal technical issues of rugby... anyhow, still more and more people here watch rugby, far more fair and clear sport that football although ice hockey is a big competitor here)))

I've watched a lot of different places for rugby, and I find the Australian announcers were best for helping me understand the game. Might've been luck of the draw, but, maybe you'll find one place or another is more helpful for you. All the best!

Nigel is awesome. He adds a unique perspective to the game for fans in the stands wired into his microphone (by fm headphones) while demanding from the lads respect for rules while in the heat of battle. Always firm and direct, his comments on the field are legend.

Best referee ever.. there is no fooling around with him. Anytime I hear he is referee during an Irish game I am happy because I know he's fair and doesn't miss a thing

I think that was anecdotal...the vid here lead to some poor taste "extensions" of the story...the version you came across is actually good. (May have happened...he's probably not immune from recycling good material.) :-)
Not 100% sure if this is what he's referring to but what I took from it is that a few years ago the ball would be out of the ruck as soon as the scrum half touched it and a player could tackle them but as that caused players to kick balls to get it into place it was changed into the ball is only out of the ruck when it has been lifted off the ground so the scrum half is allowed to touch the ball without being tackled but that player tackled him as soon as the scrum half had touched the ball
