Shunsui's shikai is based on children's games and his bankai is based on theatre plays adults. We know this because the play shunsui is telling is a suicide story of a couple, a man and a woman. Lillie Barro is the man, Shunsui is the woman. In Act 1: because the man hit the woman, he feels great shame as if the wounds he inflicted he can also feel them (and it becomes real damage). Act 2: the man starts feeling even worse for what he did and develops a sickness because of this great shame. Act 3: as a way atone the man drops into a endless ocean hoping to drown and the woman also drowns with him because she pities him. However, the man becomes a coward, starting to swim up to the surface abandoning his promise to drown along with the woman. Act 4: As a result of all this, the woman wanting to get rid of the man's regret and cowardness, cuts his throat and then she drowns, as if the promise they made was never broken.

@@BrianxStephanie yes, his bankai is a stage act of double suicide. So most likely anyone who got dragged into the bankai will be forced into the act. Pretty similar to Rose's bankai but it doesn't have the weakness that people need to be able to hear the music

I think it was much better than the manga - the additional coloring really hammers home that traditional Japanese stage play feel - and the animation and sound effects just take it over the top, I'd 100% remember this over the reading it in the manga - it elevates it to another level.

Shunsui declaring he's the Captain-Commander is such a great moment. Seeing a humble character flexing on the enemy to represent the Gotei 13's power feels so good.

The play follows a man (Barro) who starts sharing the pain he inflicted on someone (Shunsui), gets stricken with a disease because of guilt, jumps into a river to atone, and finally dies. Katen's favorite plays are tragedies, so using it brings a lot of risks to both Shunsui and his comrades since a protagonist dying in tragedies is pretty common

@@manopars4 Kyoraku's zanpaktou overwrites the rules of realityu with it's own ruleset. It is insanely powerful, and there's quite a few things that point to his bankai being underdeveloped so it could potentialy grow a lot stronger.
he could've possibily killed Baragan, Halibel, Gin and Tosen too and maybe Aizen would get significantly damaged. Assuming that it can target more than 1 enemy

Only thing weird is that they kept Kyoraku's line about the world feeling lonely and full of despair, but I guess that's just how the pressure from the bankai release makes everyone feel.
not just that it looks like a traditional stage play, its a distorted hue of an oppressive yellow in an already dark environment which is just pure GENIUS until one starts seeing it in action and figuring out how it works...
Well what can they do manga is black and white its easier to represent dark there and dark normally symbolises despair but here due to what u said despair is repsented like this but god damn they totally did justice to his bankai even better ig coz i have a 18:38 very short term. It’s powerful, but risky to use with allies around since anyone inside gets hit by Infinite Void like in Shibuya. The same logic applies to Shinsui’s Bankai. Quite the coincidence since even in Shikai, Ohana can create a domain of her own spirit energy that makes anyone inside follow her rules. This is why his and Shinji’s Bankai are so dangerous and rarely used.
The Reason he told his Lieutenant to leave was because he knew he was going to use it. When he uses it the Bankai tends to target others without Digression. If his Luieutenant stayed behind she would have become a casualty and hoped that she and the others were far away enough to not be caught up in its theater trope effect. It was because of this Ukitake stopped him durring the Arrancar invasion Arc. If i am not Mistaken it is one of the 3 Bankais that are generally forbidden to be used in Soul Society or around others. 1 being Yamamoto, 2 being Shinji, and 3rd being Shunsui's. Also Speaking of Ukitake, His VA in a recent interview said was sad because he would never be able to say the words Bankai even once :(

The older shinigami like Yamamoto, Senjumaru, Kyoraku, (and I would guess Ukitake though we never see his) tend to have long ceremonial titles for their shikai and bankai techniques. I would even say that they have more complex abilities than the younger ones. Probably because they’ve fully matured their abilities.
the way of lille barro's death (his shots at enemy wound his body too) looks like his death in senjumaru's bankai. if you remember senjumari's bankai is looks like somekind of fate manipulating machine. senjumaru's bankai, allows her to manipulate the fate of her targets, sealing them to a different destiny that ultimately leads to death
You know this is just one of Shunsui's bankai acts or theatre plays, he still has many more act to play in his sleeve. He chose this act because it's suitable for defeating lille barro
if you watch the bankai rebellion arc, you will see that kyoraku has 2 zanpakuto... one is ohana (which appears in this episode) and the second is sakuranosuke who has the form of a female ninja
I have a feeling we are going to see Aizen's bankai in the final fight. Considering how much they have added and changed from manga till now. Aizen being Kubo's favorite character. He has to show his bankai.

Idk why they kept the line from the manga about how bankai disappears if their users die. We know that's not true, as Yamamoto's lieutenant Sasakibe died but his bankai was still used by the sternritter who killed him.

I think suspect that the original story is a rakugo, a tale of a heart-to-heart with a brothel as its setting. As far as this swastika is concerned, you can tell that the story is like this. A man and a woman are lovers. However, the man causes the woman emotional trauma. The man also fell ill from the regret of having deeply wounded the woman's heart. The two suffering people thought of committing suicide by drowning themselves in water. However, the man became afraid. The woman was already prepared. Act 1:Tameraikizu No Wakachiai (The sharing Hesitation scars) The man and the woman loved each other, but the man hurt himself by inflicting wounds on the woman (Kyoraku). Act.2:Zanki No Shitone (To be deeply ashamed of one's own negligence and to fall ill and lie on the floor) Zanki means to be ashamed of one's wrongdoings, and is originally a Buddhist word. Act.3:Dangyo No Fuchi (They both throw themselves into the water and sink to the bottom) A man's resolve begins to waver as he throws himself into the cold water, But that is selfishness on the part of the man. I wish Viz would translate the longer technique and attack names into English. Or give us both languages. Bankai or Getsuga Tenshou are fine in japanese but "Shime no Dan: Itokiribasami Chizome no Nodobue" isn't very pleasant to read. For understanding Shunsui is not dead . Here its how his Bankai works Shunsuis Bankai is a four act play what can differe in story .here its a Story of a Husband accedential hitting is Wife Grief stricken the husband became and in Depression the Husband and Wife decided to commit suicide Together by Drowning themselvs but the Husband freaks out and tries to swim to the surfaces but the woman has none of it she is able to get to her husband and staps him into the throat the woman survies this but the husband dies. In the Bankai Lilli barro and Shunsui became the Actors . In the first Act Liille Barro strikes first so he became the Husband and Shunsui the Wife. As Act 2 Rolls around Lillie Barro becomes terminal Sick .in the third Act The Husband and Wife had trhown themsevls into the Cold Water here Lilli Barro like the Husband in the story tries to swim to the Surfice but the Wife aka Shunsui Stabs the Husband aka Lillie Barro into the Throat like the Wife did it in the Story

Truth is Shunsui's shikai is enough for Starrk. Lille Barro base (speed, reflexes) is stronger than Starrk, and even couldn't handle the shikai power.

There was a filler arc called Zanpakuto rebellion arc where Kyoraku’s zanpakuto spirit and all the other spirits manifest and wreak havoc.

Kyoraku is so deadly and efficent that he basically killed Lille 3 times but his X-Axis ability saved him.

For understanding Shunsui is not dead . Here its how his Bankai works
Shunsuis Bankai is a four act play what can differe in story .here its a Story of a Husband accedential hitting is Wife Grief stricken the husband became and in Depression the Husband and Wife decided to commit suicide Together by Drowning themselvs but the Husband freaks out and tries to swim to the surfaces but the woman has none of it she is able to get to her husband and staps him into the throat the woman survies this but the husband dies.
In the Bankai Lilli barro and Shunsui became the Actors . In the first Act Liille Barro strikes first so he became the Husband and Shunsui the Wife. As Act 2 Rolls around Lillie Barro becomes terminal Sick .in the third Act The Husband and Wife had trhown themsevls into the Cold Water here Lilli Barro like the Husband in the story tries to swim to the Surfice but the Wife aka Shunsui Stabs the Husband aka Lillie Barro into the Throat like the Wife did it in the Story
