How To Propagate Fig Tree By Air Layering Suckers @backyardfigs

  • Air layering of Fig tree suckers is very successful method of propagation. It is done in case that sucker has grown from a node on a mother tree trunk, bellow soil level.
    IMPORTANT!!! Make sure that mother tree was not propagated by grafting, otherwise the sucker is a clone of a rootstock, and not the desired variety Grafting union is usually above soil level, and can be hard to detect if the tree is older. Always ask a seller if it wasn't disclosed at the time of purchase. If the tree was grafted, mark the grafted union with white oil based marker to be aware of it in the future. @backyardfigs

    Great video and i like the cup idea. It seems like a much simpler way than what I did with plastic water bottles.

    What is the patch you used to stop the bleeding where you took off the larger branch that had more FMV?

      Just a piece of paper towel, I use it to collect and stop flow of the sap on to floor.

    How happy are you about grow bags? What size are they?

      Fatih, they are working great so far. I use 18 gal. compactor bags for my 7 gal. grow bags, they also fit 10 gal. grow bags snugly.
