Very informative; I have three air layers that I'm still waiting on for the roots to develop more until the trees are dormant before removing them. Thanks Ross
Use Plastic Soda & Water Bottles or 8-16 oz. tupper ware for extra Root volume and WAIT AT LEAST 2 MONTHS for figs ! Root Pods are expensive and too small. Use , Good potting mix ( damp ) & wrap with cellophane & foil and you will have plenty of roots. When you are ready to up-pot your A/L trim most leaves 2-3 days PRIOR, to removing from Mother Plant. This will allow your A/L to bleed and heal up, this will minimize SHOCK for your A /L . Soak your Root Ball for one hour before potting. Place your up-potted A/L's in the shade for a week then acclimate them to the sun for two weeks. I made 47 A/L's this spring with only 3 failures. And all root balls were very thick & healthy. I have trouble with rooting cuttings, but my A/L's are beautiful.
in your experience ..is there some varieties that are harder to root from cutting then others and you may better off grafting them on to root stock from the get go...
No. I haven't noticed that at all. Imo.. you need to adjust temps/humidity if one variety isn't working. Every variety is different and applying the standard 70 or 75 degrees may not be enough for some varieties.
You have inspired me with the sandwich bag method. I now have at least 25 air layers going and plan to do more. Thanks soooo much!

Lmao.
Can i air layer on figs in winter/ dorment?
Ross, When did you make this video? Not on Dec 4, I bet. Your figs are all full of leaves which is not likely in early December in Zone 7.
Late October, Chandra.
Hi Ross,
Did you cut/score the bark and expose the cambium layer before covering the air layers with soil?
Yes.
