    Very nice find!!!! The "lounger" upstairs is actually called a "fainting couch". That stove, oh my stars, was indeed an antique worth alot of money. I could see that dresser being restored with an antique mirror attached. Awesome video & thank you for sharing JP😊

      Never heard of a fainting couch. I thought it was a chase lounge.

      @@JPVideos81 .... Here in Southern Illinois chaise lounges are outdoor furniture... but a fainting couch was way back in the day when women would faint alot, I have no clue why. But they had them in doctor's office's and in parlors of the wealthy folks.

    • @reesedaniel5835
      @reesedaniel5835 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The reason they fainted a lot was because they wore whalebone corsets to make their waists look teeny, which cut off a lot of their oxygen to the brain and caused them to faint.

    • @barbara-pigeonbray4579
      @barbara-pigeonbray4579 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I read that they fainted because the corsets were laced so tightly ( ,,,think Scarlet in "Gone With the Wind " )

    Love, love log structures . So glad you found this one. Beautiful antiques ! Our log house came from a "kit" and my cookstove is a reproduction ; but this was the real thing ..too bad someone didn't appreciate it enough to save it. Looks ( and smells ? ) like the field mice have enjoyed it . Surprised you didn't encounter any .This is one of my favorite explores. Another great job , Jay.

    kinda reminds of being a kid and going to a fishing resort // they had several cabins all about same size and style - and with names like - the Birch - the Pines - the Maple - the oak -- as they were made from those trees - and at some time in the 60's they updated them with Electricity but still left the old wood burning stoves and old Ice Boxes -- even had the old water pumps just outside the cabins // still a great find and thanks for sharing

    Interesting find. The frame of the lounge upstairs is possibly salvageable but I imagine it would be quite difficult to get it out of there, and of course the land probably belongs to someone who might take issue with anything being removed from the cabin. The old stove is pretty cool. If the cabin could talk I bet it would have some good tales to tell. Thanks, JP.

    It's a Sunshine cast iron stove circa 1910 and came enameled in porcelain with nickel trim. These were common in Bucks Co. That was a daybed of the same era. Nice to see the original furnishings still there. Thank you for showing us this. As some others have said they could be slightly earlier.

Why would someone just let it go abandoned instead of selling it and getting some money out of it so someone else could enjoy it? It looks like it was cute at one point in time. I’d love to know the history if you can find any out. Thanks!! 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

      I doubt that anyone ever lived in it. It looks like it was just built for hunting weekends. Odd pieces of cast-off furniture - just enough to give a hunting party a place to sit down or grab a mattress at night. The shredding looks like rodents have been at the sofa downstairs. Just the barest necessities inside. Nothing to indicate it was ever a home.

Stairs were thick and solidly constructed,furnishings seem good, and that stove was a beauty!!😀🔥 Glass door knob is 30-ish.. I believe that the lounger is early 1900s.Was that a buoy at the foot of the stairs?? I always feel sad 😢 when I see these old abandoned places that probably was someone ‘s dream escape!😢😍👍

    I know this is weird but that "pine oil deodorant" intrigued me the most... Not much you can find out about that stuff (specifically the bottle that was there). I can only gather that this was prior to what we call pine-sol,which has been around for a long time, so this stuff was before that time.
    Here is a link to the closest thing to what you saw there, at least that I could find... goo.gl/images/5WpQCs
    I guess what I found interesting about it was that I was kind of thinking along the lines of what you seemed to think because you said "in liquid form" and I was thinking... Surely they didn't use that the way we use deodorant.... Did they???! And the answer is no... That was pine oil, to care for wood, and it had deodorizing properties. Whew! I'm glad they weren't slapping that up under their armpits!
    Or were they?? Lol

    Looks like it's been abandoned for about 30+ years. I wonder if the owner did not have kids or had disinterested kids and possibly passed away.
