Something most people will miss unless you’re familiar with Journey to the West story, during this trailer the narrator and the ending scene hint at the ‘Small West’ part of the story seems to play a major part in this. Including the ‘fake’ Buddha, as well as the golden cymbals at the very last scene that traps Wukong in the original story until they could find help from the heavenly soldiers, drilling thru the cymbals. Cool bit of lore
Yeah but they’re trying to avoid making that story. They’re only taking bits of it as inspiration and making their own path. Way better idea than to do that story. Then you won’t have people crying about it’s accuracy amd how they got this or that thing wrong.. this way they can do whatever they want lol. So that part where you assumed it played a major part in things, just toss that out the window lol
When you dodge at the very last second, you can see an after image of Wukong just managing to get out of the way. Awesome detail and it’ll make perfect dodging super rewarding. Absolutely incredible.
lol when finished maybe their next game will be originated from the ancient Chinese apparition novels 《聊齋誌異Liaozhai》and《山海經Shanhaijing》Please look forward to it!
In a 2020 interview with IGN China, Game Science said they plan to release Black Myth: Wukong by 2023. The developer aims to release the game for PC as well as main-stream consoles. The game will be sold as a one-time purchase with possible DLCs. @Jonathan Vanilla However there is a little problem with the release date. 2023 is not what Game science has planned, but IGN editor's estimate after the interview. The Game Science developers didn't say that. IGN China posted an announcement in Weibo yesterday, apologizing for IGN America's wrong information of release date and told IGN America to delete it.
Developers who actually respect gamers' time, money, and effort. A rare sight to see nowadays with garbage microtransactions. Black Myth: Wukong feels like a breath of fresh air. I'm not particularly into souls-like games, but Wukong looks amazing.
Fun fact: the trailer ends with a song called "敢问路在何方" , deliberately chosen by the developers because it was the ending theme for episodes of 1986 version Journey to the West TV series. Pretty much any Chinese person born between 1970 to 2000s would instantly recognize it and feel nostalgic. The developers went to the trouble of getting official state approval to use both the opening and ending them to the TV series because they know their market.
This isn't a journey to the west, it's a story that takes place either before he was imprisoned or after, it's most likely before and the reason why he was imprisoned is based on his evil and perverse musings towards the end of the video.
Every year it feels like we get a new game that reinforces the fact that video games are an art form. This will be this years piece of art, its beautiful.
@7thOuterPath 7thOuterPath dude, its ue5, even a normal guy like you could make a photorealostic forest in 20 min using that engine. Coming from a dev, the game will likely not be downgraded
According to their co-founder, this time their target was 4k60 and higher quality. UE5's new features like Nanite and Lumen helped a lot, but they had only 2 months to port when they got UE5, so there is enormous potential for optimization. With Nvidia's DLSS, the demo can run @1080p70 with a RTX2060. Their goal is for the game to be run decently on a mainstream PC.
Not to mention the ue5 is in early access, which makes it even more impressive, its said on the epic games website that its not entirely functional for AAA comercial use yet. With time it will be even better.
It has inspiration from "Journey to the West", but based on the narration, it seems to take more heavily from a modern interpretation of Buddhist texts and the Bhavacakra.
@@orcusdei I've seen a couple of theories that we play as one of Wukong's clones, possibly the Six Eared Macaque, since what appears to be the real Wukong turns up looking ready for a fight in the original trailer.
The last melodies of two end-credit trailers have made many emotional for me & for all people who sat before their TV for waiting Journey to the West 1986 in the last 3 decades.
raising the bar if it truly looks like this in the actual gameplay. the development of games has been insane over the last decade, we are getting closer and closer to that 'real' feel and look. it's amazing
@@VarietyGamerChannel the actual gameplay doesn't mean most PC can handle it. That's why most games with insane graphic will be downgraded when release....like The Division by UBiSoft.......
In fact, the narration is a distortion of the villain, and the lyrics (poetry) of the background music describe the chaotic times in this context, with black and white being reversed.
The graphics and art direction are out of this world...but the game play looks janky with funky hit detection and clipping artifacts all over the place. .
that one part where he extends his staff and seeing that dragon do his lighting attacks was just absolutely JAW DROPPING!!!! and THAT FINAL BLOW!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!

when he is running from 3:00 - 3:25 his weapon hits the snow and moves it , normally games just let it clip through the GRX . Love the little details to attention .
Yeah, and as he fights that dragon, its electric sparky attacks do not simply shoot outwards in random directions like most games would draw these, but actually arcing towards the nearest conductive objects, awesome
OMG the snowy battlefield actually deforms and gets messed up when they fight and doesnt recover back to being a smooth surface. Perfect Physics. Thats amazing
Oh man the translations here are not easy, so many esoteric references to mythology and religion that you literally cant translate them at all. Every other sentence could have a whole essay attached to the translation. Looks sick, a 100% buy.
The translation only sort of conveys the meaning. It uses common English and it loses the poetic and ancient Chinese feeling. It's tough. The translator needs to have a strong literature background to make it awesome.

11:25 OMG they also put the original ending song of the Journey to the West 1986 series into the game, i'm so hyped right now.. Some fact for you guy: - The name of the song was "Gan wan lu zai he feng" which translate into "Dare to ask where the road is" - The big golden giant bowl you saw in the ending of clip is one of the treasure of Lord Buddha from the East but later get stolen by his disciple named Yellow- Browed Buddha ( his first debut is in the episode named : "Stepping into Lesser Thunder Monastery" ), the golden bowl is a trap set for Wukong and frankly to say Wukong lost quite a few days to get out of that bowl - And finally, yes i'm a big fan of Journey to the West :)
This gives me chilled. As a 80s Chinese we grew up reading the book watching the old Tv series. The ending is a modern remake of the old theme song. Can’t wait to here the full version of it. Also those monologues writing is amazing, much more of a cynical view that is a 180 of the original book. Can’t wait.
As Chinese, the old man's monologue and soundtrack sends chills down my spine. Having seen movies and series about Journey to the West since childhood, it's rare to see stories about Wukong with such great productions. Bravo Game Science! Wukong truly deserves it
This looks fking amazing over all. Having great graphics, based with interesting ancient tales, unique Chinese martial arts movements, visually so remarkable!
Everybody talking about how incredible the game/combat looks but can we also really appreciate the sound and music? Sounds like we could have a Nier: Automata soundtrack competitor in the works
This game's combat and music seriously does let the player know, they're the protagonist of this epic, cinematic and *theatrical* journey! Even when the full soundtrack isn't released yet, when it does I'm putting that on loop for sure.
every single move he uses is correct to the lore... every single one is perfectly accurate... as a Chinese person who plays a lot of games, this is the best thing that has happened (for me) since covid.

Time to re-watch OSP's Journey to the West videos again :D
