Never apologize Granger for anything related to Riv or anything to do with your mental health and family. I’m not a parent but I know what ISR is now because of you I’ll tell those with kids under 4 years old about it all. You all are an inspiration for many and please never forget that. Since you guys started this channel I’ve grown so much in my relationship with Jesus even more. I hope one day we get the chance to meet if not we’ll meet in Heaven. I love y’all and glad we’re family in Christ

Pediatricians should be on board and tell parents about it and lead them to a website where parents can learn more and find lessons in their area.

Granger, you do not need to apologize to anyone for not being physically present during the life saving learning that Maverick has embarked upon. We can clearly see it on your face and hear it in your voice. You love your family and you support your wife in this journey. We know you are present with them and that’s what is important. God bless.

My oldest was 5 years old when his dad and I were teaching out 1 year to hold his breath. My 5 year old was in the pool right next to me and nearly drowned. He went slighty towards the enclave where it gets deeper... seconds people!!! It can happen right in front of your eyes.

Granger as a veteran of both military and law enforcement I understand your PTSD. You must talk with some one and develop coping mechanisms. I have watched to many of my friends decline with PTSD to an unmentionable level by refusing to seek help. Prayers for you Brother that you gain inner peace through the Lord. Maverick has learned critical thinking skills that will serve him well not only in the pool but life as well.

Our son took a very early version of this in 1983 at 14 months old at a local university. I and 6 other Moms stood in the water nearby as graduate students worked one-on-one with our children. Fast forward-one year later our son fell in a neighbor’s pool fully dressed while standing approximately 3 feet from us. Before we could jump in for a rescue, he resurfaced and headed to the edge of the pool. He coughed a couple of times, was fine and required no medical treatment. I truly believe that new “experimental” program saved his life. He was and is our “live like Riv” child. Granger and Amber, this is a courageous thing to do for your family.

We took both my then infant boys (1983) to "diaper divers" which was probably the precursor to ISR and it was one of the best things we ever did for them. Parents were invited to watch through a one-way mirror (which I did for every lesson). We had an inground pool at home with a slide and diving board that was a huge "attraction" for the little guys. After the classes we still were vigilant about locking the pool yard, etc., but felt the boys would have a good chance of surviving a "fall" into the pool.

My heart goes out to both of you (and the kids). I can’t even imagine how difficult it is to see Mav in ISR, and not having those skills for Riv because you didn’t know about them. You two are EXCELLENT parents. You’re keeping little Riv’s legacy alive. And doing the best you can with Mav. You deserve so much credit for doing ISR. It was gut wrenching to watch Granger talk about it, and to see Amber emotional. On a lighter note, I can’t wait for Yee Yee day and Spiceyee jerky! I hope y’all have so much fun tomorrow and I can’t wait to see the footage! Yee Yee!

Granger, as someone who has suffered from PTSD for years and not knowing how to deal with it, I understand. I was a Paramedic for 28 years I can tell you many stories. That usually helps me in the moment. The long term effects of PTSD are disturbing. I never knew how bad my PTSD was until I retired and had the time to reflect on my life and the things accomplished, the voices I heard, the faces I seen, the screams and crying I have listened too. My PTSD was so bad I could not go be with my father 2000 miles away when he was dying of cancer. My advice is this...You have to face those demons you cannot close them off and try to hide them. You hide them and they find away back out at the least expected time. Go talk to someone that can give the tools to deal with it. There are ways. Peace and Prayers for you. I understand what you are going through.

I am an avid swimmer since very young. I grew up in a Finishing Town were it was mandatory for every child to learn how to swim. Therefore I have seen the water Babies as we called them. It is a very successful program. I hope this helps💝. Amber is so Strong on the outside but I know it's tearing Her up inside . Just the thought of putting Mav into Water has to be definitely painful. I kinda guessed it was PTSD. I drowned as a 4 year old, in the ocean. My father saved me and his friend did lifesaving CPR. They saved me and as a child I suppressed those memories. Every summer my parents made me and my brothers and sisters take swimming lessons, I panicked, couldn't put my head under water. Felt like four summers of torture and begging not to do swimming lessons. I finally got through it and learned to swim. I never actually remembered what happened until as an adult, snorkeling in the ocean all the memories came back. I've dealt with this all my life and I know PTSD is annoying but time has had an amazing way of softening the blows for me. I pray for healing for you and your family. God's Blessings.

You went through the trauma of losing a child to drowning, you were the one to find him. Its no wonder you have ptsd. I think it understandable that its triggering for you. Dont ever be sorry for that. You have both brought it to the forefront of peoples minds and you are making a difference, with every child that goes through the programme, is another life saved. ❤❤

Life is not just about what’s fair or unfair, it’s not at all about who is tall or short, and certainly not about who is rich or poor. It is all about the meaningful relationships that you make, the humble nature that you have, and the kindness you show to others. Have a Beautiful and Blessed evening/ day and weekend. See y'all Sunday on Arise. Stay safe. God Bless.

God bless you all, you have walked through the pain of loosing Riv, individually and as a family … you have all shown, resilience, courage & strength . Although there have been days, maybe weeks you may have felt like how will you get through this. You are all doing it and also sharing your story, educating others about safety around water, you have managed to lean on God, your community, yee yee and arise with Amber. You give us hope that through some darker times, we can still find a reason to get up and move through it at a manageable pace. God’s got you 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼💛💛🙏🏼🙏🏼🎈

No explanations are needed.. I can't fathom how Amber and Granger are so strong. It must be so so hard..I live in Ireland, where we don't have good enough weather for pools, but I've friends and family with my nieces and nephews going on holidays to Spain where there are pools. I've told them all about these learning techniques so it's so important to learn.. What you guys are doing and teaching is remarkable. Thank you.

Granger no need to explain, we get it. Amber you are so strong and a rock to go through this with Mav, I can only imagine how hard this was on all of you. I remember my own child falling off of a raft into the pool (I was right beside her) and I panicked but grabbed her up immediately. It was very scary but I did eventually put her in swim lessons but if I ever have a grandchild they will definitely go through ISR. Thank you for everything you do. See you in Roanoke on the 7th Granger.

Granger - truly appreciate your willingness to be open and vulnerable about this. I can't know exactly how you feel, but I can understand why it is hard. Y'all sharing this ISR journey, and all of the other aspects of this journey, matters SO much. You are saving lives. I wish this could become a national campaign so that more people would become aware of ISR beyond this Yee Yee family. Maybe it'll still happen. I also wish that things would change so that ISR is more accessible and more affordable for everyone. Yes, these The Smiths videos are incredibly entertaining, but they are so much more than just that. Thank you for all you do. Hope Yee Yee Day is an amazing success! #YeeYee

Y'all are absolutely great parents! I can't imagine all the pain and grieving you've had to go through and will always go through, but to experience a child drowning and put it out there for more parents to see is amazing. It's been really intense watching Mav's lessons but it wouldn't make sense to experience and not learn and teach about it. Keep doing what y'all are doing, there is no apologies needed. Yee Yee!
