    Terrific instructional video. Working on doors n windows can be an exercise in frustration and as always u show great patience. But i do prefer the rnrtot format better because i love the music. Im not a country fan but that stuff is great. Keep the videos coming Jeff. All good stuff

    All of those that complained are perfect, right? In their own little minds, of course. One of the favorite sayings of the guys that are retired, as I am, is that we do what we want, when we want, IF we want and if we don't want, then screw it! That's how I feel about the negatives that seem to want to tell you how to do your postings! I don't know who the lucky owner of "Virginia" is but she's one sweet looking ride. So many have been customized or rodded or just plain adulterated so seeing one in this condition is a real treat!

    Your intro reminded me of Dick Lane, movie star, wrestling announcer, TV car salesman. I think he sold chevrolets and he would slam the hoods and yell "Whoa Nellie"

    Working in gravel, dirt, and grass it's always good to have cover so that when the screw drops it hits the cover and bounces into the grass but at least ya know it's not on the cover.
    Good vid and nice 53.

    I like the trick with the special clip removal rag tool, the technician/presenter for Elderly Iron seems to be a few years younger than the one on This Old Truck, are they by any chance related.

    Please please put part 2 up. Where did you find the felt? I am doing a 1963 Thunderbird and I need to replace the same thing.

  • @akawireguy1197

    Makita 9.6 volt, the granddaddy of all modern cordless driver/drills. To my mind it was the first truly viable unit brought to market. I used the heck out of mine. I still have several including the ultra useful tight right angle unit.

    • @dfross87
      @dfross87 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. Still got a set of 4, still use them. Can still get the batteries (well, I could a couple of years ago when I last needed to)!
      Only problem I've had with the set was with the RA drill -- the chuck gave up. So I took a keyed chuck from another drill I'd been given (which was kaput), and fitted that. Changing from the keyless to the keyed chuck makes it even more compact!

    I just replaced the door glass in my 54. I bought new weather striping and channels . Remove all the old and installed the new . It’s fitting way too tight , so tight that when you try to roll the window Down the door glass is popping out of the frame. Any suggestions how to fix this? I didn’t use any adhesive between the glass and the frame , I just installed the new rubber in the frame and tapped the glass in with a rubber mallet . But even with adhesive it’s such a tight fit , it will still probably pull out of the frame .

    • @ElderlyIron
      @ElderlyIron  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am going to assume that you are talking about the glass is coming out of the bottom roller track.
      I can only say what I would do. I would check to see if the new glass matches the old in all 3 dimensions. If it's wider, it will bind in the weatherstrip. If it's thinner, then it won't be gripped as well by the frame. (not likely)
      As for the new channels, you need to check to see if they are too narrow for the thickness of the glass, or if they bind against the edge of the glass.
      Unfortunately, you'll need to disassemble some of it in order to find out. Pull the glass and the wing vent channel. See if it's tight going into the channel of the vent, then test it on the door side channel. If it slides ok in either channel, then it may be that the channel depth is not deep enough and binding on the edge of the glass when the 2 are installed together.

    I would dearly love to get a 57 Desoto sportsman or adventurer coupe with the 354 Hemi and the push-button torqueflite etc. In red with white side highlights and a black roof. It would be my daily driver, and ultimate cruiser. from state to state if needbe.
    I might put the holley injection that is more or less inside of a 4 barrel carby as a throttle body and has all the injectors mounted in the one unit, so you can put your original air cleaner on top, and it would look as if still stock. Maybe upgrade the 1957 Ignition to MSD hi voltage and get the torqueflite looked at and rebuilt if necessary, and have a shift kit put in at the same time. Maybe I might put big front discs from a chrysler truck on it if I could find ones that have a brake booster and bolt up to the stock spindles / hubs. And a nice quality stainless steel 2 x 2.5" system to top it off with a couple of hotdog resonators at least to keep the drone down, nothing too loud - just something that has a crisp note pulling away without getting annoying on longer journeys.. The interior I'd have big plans for, but I'd probably leave it alone for the first few years until I get done with all the other things I plan to do, but upholstery is expensive and I have big plans for it. But I reckon the fins and jet age design on these (Virgil Exener design) beat the look of a 57 Chevrolet anyday. And having a mini hemi under the hood everyday is just a treat.

    Crochet hook or similarly shaped implement would have made short work of the handle retainer issue (Chinese or American style) and saved ya a rag. Now that rag is raggedy.
