“Nothing would be the same if it wasn’t for him” @CMPunk on Andre The Giant, as part of our ongoing Icon on Icon series. Rootsoffight.com | rootsof.co/wre...
Andre was the greatest attraction in wrestling history. People who didn’t like wrestling would buy a ticket to see “the giant” Just because of how he was advertised and this may be their only chance to see maybe the biggest human being they will ever see in their life. It’s why they kept moving him around the world. You’d get a taste of him and then you’d have to wait a year to see him again and by that point maybe your friend didn’t go last time so you take him along. It’s probably why there is such little TV footage of him in the 70’s. You had to keep up that mythical aura that maybe a 12 foot man will be in the area that night 😂 if you see him on TV then you’re less likely to buy a ticket. Even when he started working for Vince jr, Vince always put Andre on a box to interview him to add an extra foot of height.
Pretty sure you can find loads of videos of Bret Hart talking about Andre. Getting a guy who's currently on the roster to talk about him might get some new and younger people into him.
There isn't a whole lot, especially US footage outside of clips. Best stuff you can find are his Japanese matches where you can see him just straight wrestling th-cam.com/video/wqwdaGEaJcM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3XjzcOOS5dYF-PwK
Better athlete for sure, but not a better worker. In the little footage we have of prime Andre in action, it was obvious that he was very skilled before the acromegaly and alcoholism ravaged his body.
The Giant Machine was the greatest masked wrestler🤙🏾

Andre The Giant is the GOAT 🐐
Is there a full length Punk interview coming?
I want to hear him speaking about Dominik Mysterio
I love Punk, but why not get Bret Hart to speak about him? He actually worked Andre.

@@Jimmyeleven1 Fair point, but every other Roots of Fights video is one of the wrestlers talking about someone they worked, that’s all.
@mikehayes9470 fair point as well. I never heard Punk talk about Andre, though. So it intrigued me.
@@Jimmyeleven1 Oh yeah I still watched and enjoyed it, just jarred with previous videos. Hope they keep up this content 👍🏻
Fun fact: Mick Foley has actually worked with Andre the Giant.
cm crunk
CM Punk talking about Andre downing booze. 😮
Can anyone recommend some prime Andre The Giant matches to watch?

Andre VS Stan Hansen is a classic!
They are all terrible
I saw him in a match, it may have been in Japan in the 70s I can't remember, he was flying over the top rope and he even did a pedigree as a move.
Andre is Bigfoot, no disrespect to Ted Cassidy, but he was my favorite.
Did you meet Andre? Did you wrestle Andre?
Unpopular opinion I'm sure, but Big Show was a better worker and a better athlete. It's not even close.
I would say that andre was the better worker while show was the better athlete & there's a huge difference between the two.
Better athlete for sure, but not a better worker. In the little footage we have of prime Andre in action, it was obvious that he was very skilled before the acromegaly and alcoholism ravaged his body.
Spoken like someone who truly knows nothing about wrestling.
