    about that - when the vanilla puts you in an infinite loop.
    if you give it 2 minutes, tops, it'll unfreeze. I know that because that's how it worked for me, and i still play 1.02 to this day. and still, love it to my very core of existence.
    and also, i dunno why it works fine on win 10.

    • @DarthZombie510
      @DarthZombie510  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, I could've sworn vanilla still had the infinite loop thing, and didn't skip AIs who got stuck during their turns. This is what happens when you play the mod a lot more than the original game lol

    As someone who remembers playing Rebelstar Raiders on the ZX Spectrum as a kid, I too prefer the full Action Points system.
    Did you ever play Silent Storm? It's got a pretty interesting action point system, along with a lot of environmental destruction makes for a good combat system.

      I want to play it, because i've heard plenty good things about it. There's also the infamous Fallout Tactics which got the short end of the straw by not being a classical Fallout RPG, despite being a competent TBS

    • @morganhay3968
      @morganhay3968 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DarthZombie510 It's definitely worth a look, though there are serious enough flaws to prevent it from being a 'forgotten classic' in my opinion.
      Fallout Tactics is another good one, provided it's tenuous connection to the previous Fallout games is ignored. (Probably less of an issue these days, now that the newer Fallouts have diluted the seriousness of the series.)

    watching this video made me realize it's TIME TO TAKE OUT THE TRASH
    joke aside, a very good review, loved it. I started building a small tactical game a year or so ago and the further I go into the details the more I appreciate Jagged Alliance 2, imo it's the pinacle of turn based tacticas, a product of it's time, game from the late 90s, when review bombing, cancelation, streamlining, "modern audiences", multiplayer focus and more of these things didn't exist, and creativity and attention to detail just set this game apart.
    I liked JA3, probably the best tactical game of the recent years, but JA2+1.13 (and AIMNAS!) is just a killer combo that nothing else can even come close to.

    • @DarthZombie510
      @DarthZombie510  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't envy the monumental task any designer would have if they try to replicate the complexity and accuracy of JA2 1.13's systems. Sometimes I'm even surprised it manages to hold up, because it's as if it's held in one piece by glue and toilet paper.
      I can sort of understand that people nowadays would be put off by such a steep learning curve. We're familiar with its systems, but learning it from scratch is akin to learning a whole course in terms of its volume. But man, do I miss this kind of games sometimes!

    I think JA3 was rather kept low on marketing, I didn't see any dev video or anything advertising it on youtube until suddenly non review copy owners started uploading to youtube. Good idea, stops from too much expectation that people don't even know what to expect, and the team can develop the game to its full without marketed promises.
    Edit: I watched the whole video before commenting, old JA2 fan, good points on the AP of those new XCom games, initially I wanted to mention about how JA3 took a lot of cues here and there including the 1.13 mod features, and that it probably, literally took midway of old JA2's 20-25AP to half, 10-12 AP average to it, in partial response to how the 3D world of JA3 visual interaction now might look a little too close to the new X-Com games, and the streamlining of inventory, might happened due to taking mind of newer gamers. I honestly think that the depth of 1.13 to be the tacticool fantasy any merc/military strategy fan should want, that THAT is peak, but there might be something that won't work if the same depth of feature was added to JA3 that I don't know.

    • @DarthZombie510
      @DarthZombie510  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think part of the low expectations for JA3 was played by the, frankly, horrible entries it had after 2. And it's the smart move to not try too hard to counter that, since you'd only let new-comers find out about them lol.
      I am curious what they did different. From the bits and pieces I've seen, it does seem to have changes I'm not a big fan of, including the Xcomification of the action system. I'll get to it some day, after I'll obviously skip Rage and Back in Action lol.

    When I first got JA3 it seemd like a faithful update of Jagged Alliance. However after a few battles it became obvious that while it was prettier than JA2 it was inferior in every way. Eventually I uninstalled in disgust because assault rifles and LMGs were idiotically balanced. Serioysly an MG 42 does less damage per bullet than a .45 revolver. I hate to say it but JA2 1.13 is still king of the franchise.

      Holy crap, that by itself sounds pretty damn awful! I'll give it a shot in the future, but I'm not suuuuper optimistic. At least it looks better than Rage or Payback lol

    I had the feeling that this video quickly became a deep look for people already playing the game and being familiar with the game/its mechanics. I am not a stranger, but I felt left behind very quickly. Could also be due to your talking speed and voice pitching. Realized that you've lost me for at least 5 minutes around 20:30 when I've started to write this comment.
    Keep it going. Hope this feedback helps you to improve if you deem it worthy :)

    • @DarthZombie510

      It's alright. The reason why i went so in-depth is because Warlockracy's review is, for me at least, the ideal introduction. And I felt that it would've been redundant for me to cover the same parts.
      By talking speed you mean too slow or fast? Not being a native speaker comes with its own perks haha!

      @DarthZombie510 Haha, coming from him here as well. And a bit experience with the JA2 Demo back in the days as a kid 😁
      You have this very monotone patch- same Level for the whole sentence and the going up or down for the last to words or so. Hard to describe, but it made it hard to follow as it was ... tiresome? Does that makes sense? 🤔
