Hey guys, it's Jake here with Etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at and I'm gonna show you how to install the Solera Slide Topper. Now the biggest benefit of adding a slide topper to the top of your slide is going to be to keep the elements and leaves and all kinds of debris off the top of your slide. A lot of manufacturers do not include them when they produce the RV and you might be looking for a replacement for one that may be broken or damaged on your current RV. The biggest thing that they're gonna do is, as you can see, it's gonna be a essentially a awning that's just over top of your slide and it's gonna unroll with your slide so that when you're camping at a campsite with leaves or if you're camping during the winter, any of that stuff is gonna stay off the top of your slide. And what this is designed to prevent is especially when it comes to leaves, acorns, any of that stuff that falls from the trees, bugs, other debris that's sitting on top of your roof, a lot of people think that the seal that is on top of your roof to keep your water from getting inside your camper, they think that's designed to scrape off all that stuff.
And what really happens is all that stuff is gonna sit flat on your top of your slide and go inside of your camper. This causes problems with mildew, mold, all that stuff from forming on the inside of your camper. You wanna keep all that stuff off the top of the slide to begin with. So I do highly recommend before you get one of these installed that you clean the top of your roof really, really well so that you don't have that stuff there anyway. Our camper happens to be brand new so that is already clean up there.
Now I'll say I have a slide topper on my slide on my fifth wheel and there are times when the leaves get stuck to it and you will have to roll it back out when you get home and clean all that stuff off. But it's not nearly as bad as having to clean the top of your slide or having to clean the inside of your camper because all that stuff is inside of it now. And one of the biggest questions we get here at Etrailer is, "How do I know what size slide topper do I need for my camper" Essentially all it is is you need to measure from outside of flange to the outside of flange and that is going to be the size fabric that you're going to need. You'll see two different measurements, you'll see the whole roll itself and then you'll see the fabric measurement. You want to go with the fabric measurement for this 'cause you want the slide topper as you can see up here, you want the slide topper to go well over your slide and this is a pretty good measurement to determine that you're gonna have enough overhang because of how deep this is, that's how much overhang you're gonna end up having and that's perfect so that you don't have to worry about if it's raining sideways or something like that, that leaves and stuff are getting underneath your slide top.
Now these are going to be available in black and white so depending on the color of the slide top things you already have or the color scheme that's on your camper, as you can see we've got black trim all over this white camper. So it turns out it looks really, really good. If you've got nothing but white trim or you don't have any black trim on your camper, you might want to go with a white one. I will say the white ones you may have to clean more often because they're gonna look like they're dirtier but when it comes to the installation, it's not too bad at all. You could probably get one of these installed in about an hour, even if you've never done one before.
I would say an hour per slide topper. So if you've got multiple slides, I would definitely recommend picking one up for each one of 'em. To begin our installation, you'll first want to check if you already have an extrusion rail on your RV above your slide. Some of 'em will have it up here in the top and that is designed to use with slide toppers. Ours does not, it just has a gutter up here, so we're gonna have to install the one that comes with our kit. The first thing you're g
