The 83-88 Monte Carlo SS' easily my favorite race car. Loved seeing them out on the tracks. Best era in Nascar IMO. The win on Sunday, sell on Monday effect was real back then. Chevy sold a ton of those cars.
I DO remember getting the Matchbox Nascar cars at Hardee's as a kid, and had many a' race on the kitchen table with them, LOL! ("Best eatin' in town, up and down all around"...remember that? 😜), awesome build, my friend, it looks great! 😁✌
Cale Yarborough was my favorite driver back in the day. I loved building this car when it first came out. I displayed it with my Cale Yarborough autographed photo.. I was a proud puppy on that one.
Great Model, i have recently been watching all the old Nascar Races from back in the day and have really enjoyed them... and i have been identifying all the kits that you have built over the year/s...
Love the car. The window net really looks cool. Overall, my favorite years of the Monte Carlo. Thanks Model Roundup for giving Chris the opportunity to really shine on this kit! That chrome looks beautiful. Great job!
I love these kits. I don't think there is anything wrong with them what-so-ever. It's very cool they were re-issued. I have about 27 of them, "don't plan to run out anytime soon!" Enjoyed this video, as do all your videos bro. Merry Christmas, hope Santa brought you everything you wished for? See you in the next review!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you Chris and all of your family members. Thank you SO much for all of the tips and help to build better models that I have learned by watching your videos!!!
Nice build Chris👍 Great tip with the masking. I just orderd this kit myself and it is gonna be my first NASCAR kit build. And Im really looking forward to build it. I really like your channel and that you push the fun side of modeling. And you push to not build for anyone else, build it for you! Keep up the great work! (Sorry for bad english, Im from Sweden)
Right on! It's all about the FUN for me on here, I don't stress things. Model making is supposed to be a hobby, a way to enjoyably pass the time and chill out.
@@hpiguy Thanks for the awnser! I was wondering if you are gonna do a build of the 1/16th scale Petty Charger, or a unboxing? I would love to see that, I think it is a really cool kit! And I love the looks of the 60ties to 80ties stock cars! I hope i can get a hold of one here in Sweden, probobly not but i hope. The NASCAR model kits is unfortunatly quite hard to find here.
MERRY CHRISTMAS Chris and thanks for the Christmas day review/build. I am glad these kits are coming back, I have several originals from the 80's unbuilt. Some had tool boxes and pit accessories and other goodies. I can buy these new kits and save my originals, best part is the new decals however, there is very little flash on the originals as the molds were new but flash really never bothered me as it is easy to remove.
The NASCAR models are always my favorite. I want to start buying and building them. But the problem is I don't have a steady hand and would mess up the paintjob and decals. I know you said it doesn't have to be perfect, but I also don't want it looking like a complete disaster. Although my dad would probably help me.
I have yet to build a single Salvinos kit, but I have 15 currently sitting on the shelf waiting, and plan to buy at least one of every kit they release. Just inspecting the parts in the box, I am blown away at the quality, even of these old Monogram repops. They absolutely do have the BEST chrome in the business, and the decals are beyond awesome! Not to mention they provide awesome customer service when it comes to missing parts!
I grew up in the south and this is my ABSOLUTE favorite stock car! I still have the 1:64 in my collection. I have a decal sheet and donor car to build this. I had no idea it was reissued.
Great looking car, I built several of the Monogram model cars myself. And have them displayed in a cabinet that I got from my mother -in-law. And I have a unopened Tim Richmond Monte Carlo, and several Earnhardt Sr. unopened kits also. The Monogram kits were the most fun but I also built the ones by AMT/ERTL.
Chris+ another great build love how you did the paint work on this one can't wait to see you do the dubbel heater trailers the two 27" trailers have that kit with the single drive freightliner consolidated freightways I've got plans for that With regard Dennis
Nice clean build! If I could make one suggestion: For your tires - The Monogram/Salvinos tires are made of a harder compound rather than the later Revell tires which are hollow. You can sand the treads down a bit more. This is how I do my tires: Put the rims in. Place a dime over the rim (fits perfectly). Then use LACQUER clear on the sidewalls (decals go on better on top of clear). Put the decals on (while the wheels are off the car). Use flat LACQUER clear on top of that. It will seal everything and give it a better look. Plus you can handle the wheels all you want and you wont mess with the decals. One more thing - I build the engine complete before installing. Yes, it's a squeeze but you can get the engine in without attaching the firewall or headers later. But yeah, really nice build. You should be happy with this one.
Thanks for watching. I'm happy with every kit I build, it's part of just enjoying the hobby and not taking it too seriously that I push in my channel. Thanks man!
Looking forward to this review. I group up in Spartanburg SC, home of the very first Hardee’s restaurant started by Jerry Richardson. I have also been a Nascar fan for almost 45 years. Cale was also my favorite.
Hi Chris. I have just discovered your amazing channel. Particularly this video as I am in the middle of making an original Revell /Monogram kit of this car. So this video has been amazingly helpful with interior details etc. Keep up the great content. Cheers from Australia.🇦🇺👍🦘.
Another great job Chris the paint scheme turned out fantastic I don't know what generation those monte carlo's are but to me that was my favorite era of race cars because you could go right down to the Chevrolet dealership there in Daytona and buy one that was so realistic to the race version!!

Happy New year's.I hope you can show your past models some day.do you build semi truck models also.I know they take longer to build.but fun to build.happy 2020.
Beautiful build! I always loved the 80s NASCAR era. Mainly the GM cars of 81-85 period. (Not too big on the aero backs of the later years.) Cale's car would have been the perfect companion to the 84' Pontiac of Richard Petty I had around the early 2000's. Again, you did a killer job! Finally, did Goodyear grow a heart? For years you couldn't get a new NASCAR or F1 kit with their tire logo on them.
Another WONDERFUL Salvino kit build!!! Thank you for making multiple videos of this company. Love all of them! Question...in an earlier JR Salvino build video you mentioned they were going to come out with some drag racing stuff as well...any ideas as to what kits? The 80s Monogram funny cars???
I have no dates on anything they have coming out, they have mentioned drag kits on their FB page, that's where I first saw them talking about it. I know they have all kinds of cool stock cars on the way before then.
excellent tutorial; none of this stuff is included in any model's directions. I bought five of your reviews and builds and used your pointers including the pens, pencils, all the sprays and the craft paints. I have more damn colors in a drawer than I'll ever use unless I buy and build 30 more kits to add to the three on the bench and the 20 in the closet. But I'm learning plenty and I enjoy it. Thanks. Congratulations on Model # 65(?.) Keep at it.
I haven’t had the luck brushing future over my painted models. I have often been left with finishes that have tiny micro bubbles in them. I end up having to strip the model and repaint in laquer based base and top coat. Future has worked well for me for sealing decals and applying a final full coat for military builds. I with I knew what I was doing wrong
Bubbles come from shaking the bottle, shaking the brush in the bottle or putting it on too thin and messing with it as it dries and not just walking away and letting it self level. Check out my video on the Concept Camaro, I go over using Future the way I do it.
