Probably my favorite main menu of all time is Metroid Prime. I remember seeing it for the first time as a kid and being blown away thinking that the graphics on the title screen looked so realistic. Only upon closer inspection do you realize that the menu is actually the inside of a metroids transparent head. When you select different options in the menu the camera moves around to different locations. As a kid you don't really pay all that much attention to the menu, but this was the one that actually impressed me. That and the menu music is a FREAKING BANGER.
A few of my favorites are obviously TP and OoT but also Majoras mask and just how scary it was idk why but that opening silent yet loud whoosh with a close up of the mask always scares me
It truly is an overlooked art. Going from the majesty of Zelda Oot, MM, WW, and TP's title screens to whatever BotW was was truly sad. At least Tears was better, but it was sorely in need of music. Another thing that gets overlooked is the trailer movies that play to get you hyped and immersed either right before or when you wait without touching anything. Some of my favorite title screens that you didn't mention already include the DS Pokémon games and Colosseum/XD Gale of Darkness, Animal Crossing, Dragon Quest 8, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy 6 and 10, Xenoblade Chronicles 1, and Rogue Galaxy. Music/ambiance is also a major selling point for me.

"But none of these games come close to the god of all title screens!" Ah yeah, here we go! Donkey Kong 64! "Ocarina of Time!" Oh okay, that one's cool too.
To me kingdom hearts always have the best title menus. It’s one of those menus where when you load it up you just think about life and where you are at right now. It’s just a simple white picture with Sora in it and dearly beloved playing in the background with waves crashing against the beach. Just beautiful
Well done on the video, man. It reminds me of some of Any Austin's work. I'm glad to see someone else enjoys a good title screen. Consider perhaps doing a similar video on staff rolls. Zelda games have done very well on those in the past.
Thank you so much!! Any Austin has been one of my favs since he started years ago, so that is a HUGE compliment thank you! And yes that’s a great idea!!!!

Just started watching and can already tell you're a good TH-camr to follow. I do gamedev and vids like this that focus on a specific aspect help a lot. Glad you started with Twilight Princess too as it's my favorite title screen out of all of them
@@thevideogamesrealm thanks so much! Just clicked on your channel and saw you’re using godot! Super fun program(although im not very good at it) good luck with all your gamedev stuff!!
This is a great video I’m not going to lye but I haven’t seen a video like this in a while with the great quality and by the way you just got your 140th subscriber 😊
Very nicely done, big fan of the editing. If you keep making videos like this, you're bound to get a good number of views eventually. I think it might have been better to just seamlessly slip in the bits about music that you forgot without calling attention it as I don't think anyone would have noticed, but other than that it was a really nice flow with great visuals. Maybe do a follow-up video just on title screen music, or even music from first levels/areas? I liked the thumbnail too, that's something I struggle with in my own videos, never know if I'm doing it right. I agree that Zelda is the king of title screens. One more obscure one that I'm a big fan of is from We Love Katamari. I'm not sure it really tells you much about the game but it sets a cute tone, it's sort of interactive, and the music is killer (a jazzy track called "Overture II").
Baldurs Gate 3 almost spooks you with it's title screen. They really captured some kind of magic with that one, kinda reminded me how much I loved Halo title screens in a different way. Now that I think about it, it's probably the chanting choir.
What can I say except GOD DAMN what an impressive video. Hope you get the kiss of the algorithm that you absolutely deserve. In the meantime, I suppose I can count myself within your first hundred subs, sooooo remember me when you're famous, or something corny like that. Oh and to actually give my two cents into the conversation around the video topic, Pokémon title screens are imo SUPER underrated. They've always been amazing, especially in combination with their intro sequences, but the Switch titles have done a particularly great job of setting the scene and feel for the adventure you're about to enter. Say about the quality of the games what you want, but SwSh's bombastic entry into a huge stadium, the games' main theme being a rendition of the Main Pokémon motif fused with the Hall of Fame theme, immediately sets the tone for the exact type of story you're about to experience, and leverages franchise recognition to send chills down anyone who has played a previous title to completion.
This is why I want title screens like Twilight Princess and OoT to return to the Zelda franchise. BoTW and ToTK feel so lifeless at the title screen. EoW went for something more akin to Skyward Sword in terms of it’s title screen, which is better but still really basic
@ Exactly! With the open-air games, they’re lifeless enough that when I turn them on, I feel like I’m playing them just to play them. But with most classic games, like MM and TW, I feel like I’m experiencing something great.
Honestly, i was really disappointed with Rain World's opening screen. For all the energy it puts into ambience and vibes, the first thing you're shown when booting the game for the first time is non-diagetic text giving you hints on game play.
The thing that I don't like about the PS4 era (other than DLC replacing unlockables mostly) is that "Press Start" is replaced by "Press any button" for most games. I find that annoying, and it feels changed all of a sudden... Can't they keep the "Press Start", and refer to "Start" as "Options"? What sucks is that PS3-to-PS4 ports of games often change "Press Start" to "Press any button", similarly to how PS2-to-PS3 ports change the cancel button from the Triangle button (PS2 port) to Circle button (PS3 port).
@Scammdrew I think the first one might be one of the best jrpgs ever made. Definitely worth it, especially with the definitive edition available on the switch :) Hope you'll like it if you decide to play it!

It honestly doesn't make any sense to me. You clearly show interest to it, but yet have so little to say about it that you don't.
@@spunchii134 yeah I can understand your confusion. I absolutely love it however I wrote this script and filmed before making the thumbnail. While I was designing the thumbnail, twilight princess was the obvious choice and had I made the thumbnail first I would have 100% talked about it more. As for tagging the game I’m just trying out the algorithm and since there isn’t just a single game I’m talking about in this video I figured making it the same as the thumbnail might be the best choice.
