I use a minimalist shoe which offers the foot protection and grip of a shoe, while still feeling like I'm running in a more natural way.

This sort of thinking is just SO wrong.
The running shoe doesn't make us humans run any faster, it's quite the opposite. Shoes will always make us run slower than if we were full adapted to barefoot running.
The real reason why humans have gotten faster at running, is due to better understandings of training, modern sports science, nutrition ect ect. This can be shown across all types of sports, not just running.
Unfortunately, shoes have made our feet weaker! We're now relying on the shoes to do more of the the work than that of our muscles and tendons, this is always going to be bad for many reasons, especially running efficiency.
The potential in the human foot for energy storage and release is much higher than that of any fancy carbon plated running shoe. Yet, we've been brainwashed into believing otherwise. Pro athletes will keep using the latest shoes because of their lucrative sponsorship deals, and the rest of us will follow, this is how the billion dollar shoe industry works. Shoe companies will always keep funding the science to favour of their shoes. And the dumb humans will keep buying into the scam! Running shoes are just expensive, injury inducing monstrosities for the body.
I believe, if there was a pro runner out there, with the talent and the balls, to go against the normal and run barefoot, they would easily compete with the worlds best and most possibly have an advantage over their shoe wearing rivals.

This seems like more of an opinion piece than an informative video. I would have loved to see more concrete examples of how shoes “improve your ability to run”.

Run fast vs health ? Mmmm given that 99% of us aren’t professional runners we’d be better off sticking to barefoot shoes

JP Gloria, absolutely love the videos and breakdowns. Two major asks! Sha'Carri Richardson (potential flojo wr breaker imo) and DK Metcalf! Why she's so fast and how a bulky football player could move like that...and how he could improve. Keep up the great work!

Just run barefoot or with luna sandals. Just focus on normal run, techniques (mostly your eyes), learn to get used with pain from landing at the gravel Road or trail uphill.
    No need for speed.
Then wear Salomon speedcross 2-3 days before trail event.
🤣🤣🤣🤣... Thank me later if you experience the feeling of "maybe i should, am i" everytime you pass the runners.. You already said that the running shoes did help increase speed. Good luck 😁🤟

We need shoes for run, but what we really need it's a barefoot shoe, that protects the foot but don't change our natural way to run. The sneaker that we normally see are bad for runners and promote injuries because all the pressure goes to the heels. Have a great life.

I have been a minimalist runner (Vibram V-Rub) 5 finger shoes. Minimal stack height, and zero drop) for 11 years. On e I made the switch never went back. Improved my running form, decreased ground contact time, increased cadence, and don't get knee / ankle / Achilles pain at all. I do occasionally run in Altra Rivera zero drop shoes but have a stick height of almost 30 mm. Usually that is on super cold days. My foot then can't work as designed, can't feel the ground, can slide feet when tired, and come closer to over striding. Minimalist running has been awesome for me and my Garmin HRM run data shows a clear difference in all of these metrics minimalist shoes vs even zero drop running shoes with a normal stack height.

I've worked up to ~20% of my weekly mileage barefoot. Longest outings BF are 7/8km.
I'm positive it has strengthened my calf/shoes. I'm also positive it has improved my running form. You feel the "bounce" more (or its absence) bf than with shoes on. That has allowed me to zero in on small things I was doing that probably indered my running a little.
Interestingly, over ~2 months after I started doing that regularly, my cadence has improved somewhat, from ~170 @ 5min/km to closer to 180 at the same pace. This is with shoes on - barefoot, I'm closer to 185/190 for the same pace. It's not necessarily that I tried so much to improve my cadence (170 for a 5'7" guy like me isn't bad and I wasn't overstriding). It sort of came naturally, and it has carried over to running with shoes as well.
Nowadays, when I try to run at my earlier cadence of 170, it feels like my steps are heavy and I'm deploying too much effort on each stride. I haven't quantified anything, but my "improved" running form feels better, that's for sure.

I picked up barefoot running about 6 months ago (from barefoot shoes) and it increased my cadence as well. I'm not breaking any world records so enjoy the barefoot running experience. I may try supersshoes one day to see what they do but would never dream of training in them. I could see a barefoot training but using supersshoes on race day yielding some good results. Has anyone tried that?

If you don't use a muscle it will atrophy. I use xero shoes which lie somewhere between merrell vapor glove and altra escalante. Xero shoes enable me to run as nature intended. Personally I believe super shoes are for racing not training as they offer to do so much work for the wearer.

It is not about the speed. It is about all the benefits of your own health. The big difference between walking with shoes and walking barefoot is that if you walk with shoes, the pressure of the foot is on the Achilles and if you walk barefoot, the pressure on the foot is on the front of the foot. And the drawback of pressure on the Achilles is that you can get Achilles tendonitis.

I have a fetish to my own feet no one else's only because my feet are like strong and muscular now and they just look good for me so I love going barefoot But that's not the main reason why

    • @stayontrack
      @stayontrack 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

sure it is, correct sprinting technique is staying light on your feet not slamming the feet into the ground
