The clear coat spray paint is meant for correcting mistakes. Or so you can add to an the painting. Because I rewets the paint so that you can work with it again because spray paint drys fast. But if you want a finished product it is really cool to use the clear coat too for the whole painting to make it look really good.
The tardis is supposed to look out of place, almost to the point of ridiculous. Yes it has a cartoonish look vs the organic nature of its surroundings, but given that it is an instrument of space/time, and its a police box in deep space, i think the dichotomy of the two different styles makes the picture and tells a story. The Doctor is chaotically flinging himself through existence... Whether that was the intent or not, the outcome is brilliant.
Someday I will go out an buy a few cans of spray paint and try to do art like this. I have wanted to do it for 15 years but have never remember to buy the paint when I am at the store.
Man your amazing at this and make it look so easy, I've been practicing for a little over a week, and I get so discouraged because I'm having so much trouble with it, what kept you motivated in the beginning when you were first starting out?
what kind of paper did you use for your stencils? and is there a print out of them somewhere? amazing piece! and I actually like seeing one of these in real time, gives me an idea on how long these are going to take. :)
I like the three layered stencil setup. I wonder where he got those wonderful stencils from... also, I’d like to attempt to add a fourth layer (POLICE Public Call BOX)
A lot of cutting is envolved but he usually sprays pretty fast bbut becase its a stencil that requires layers. He is not use to doing that so he took his time which is smart. It came out pretty good. I myself do the same thing. But he did a good job he is the one who inspired me to start spraypaint art and now im really beast at it.truthfully this takes a lot of patience and one mess up...u gotta start all over.
OK, gathering from what I've seen you don't answer comments , but I thought I'd try anyway,,,,, why use a hairdryer when you are spraying your clear coat? Is it to stop it reacting with the paint? I have just sprayed my finished painting with clear coat and ruined it, it crazed badly and I don't know why. Any help would be appreciated
Glossy poster board (Matte soaks up to must paint and paint dries to fast the gloss prevents that and makes easier to lift the paint) and gloss paints. I use mostly rustoleum. Metallics can give a transparent look as can cheaper walmart gloss paints. Clear gloss sprayed on drying paint helps it stay wet longer so you can do more work. Hope that helps
Also there are more expensive paints and cheaper paints. Each may work a little differently than the others. I've just found rustoleum to be an okay cost range for me. The newer nozzles on them are different than the older but I've learned to adapt. But the nozzles on some cans are directional and are harder to use
I kind of surprised he uses Rust Oleum. I mean there's nothing wrong with it, but you think he would use something more like Montana or something more geared toward artwork.
Wouldn't it have been better to do all the planets, stars, and background first and then put the Tardis stencil on top of it? Forgive me if i'm misunderstanding something but please explain why you put the Tardis on first, Thanks.
could you make me a painting with old ship wrecks and planets on the background,, I m really into marine slash ship wrecks,, I would like to have a couple of your paintings if you would make them,,
ilovetheusers it has been a long time since you commented on this. But I was just watching this again for the millionth time, and scrolling thru the comments. The painting is all in purples because it is my favorite color. My dad had this commissioned for my birthday. It is one of the best presents I have ever received!
hey can you make a blood moon painting please. i dont care what you put in it as long as their is no music and if you can the longer the video is, the more magazine sheets you use the better the video, if you could take your time please.
Can anyone help me here , should i get IRONLAK 400 or get MONTANA ALIENS? which would be better suited for art like this ? and if its not too much could someone tell me the downsides too both of them , thanks
I am Lisa. I am eleven and I want paiting like you. I have 5 spray cans and I want somewhen paiting this picture. This is very cool! And you are very cool! Can you give me template/stencil of TARDIS? P.S. I am not know English very good, I live in Ukraine so that sorry for errors:)
The TARDIS seems too out of place, given the style. It's almost like a cartoon graphic photoshopped into place. Perhaps there is a stamping tool you could make, similar to how you lift and smudge the paint on the planets, to give it a more realistic wood-finish feel? Perhaps blend it in more with the space background by having its light sources (lantern/windows) give off a glow? Also, where are the light sources? While the planets have softer shadows and highlights in different directions, indicating multiple light sources, the TARDIS seems too crisply shaded on one side. As a final note, in the end you were speeding up, but the beam of light diagonally through the center seems less like an astronomical phenomenon than unblended lines of spray paint. Maybe a more organic shape to the galaxy-like stream would help. Over all, it's nice to see you reaching out and trying to build upon your pieces and make them more interesting. Keep painting and keep growing.
Linda Hoffman I'm happy you like this piece. It IS a great piece. I'm speaking as an artist to an artist interested in self improvement. Unless you specifically requested that he contrast his usual style of ethereal realism with a stark T-shirt graphic-like focal point, and to not worry about how it is shaded or fitting it in with the negative space, I have nothing to take back. I am not questioning his marketability or customer satisfaction. I'm critiquing this as a work of art, whether it was made from his own inspiration or yours.
Brooke Leombruno No shit the TARDIS is blue. Most artists I know appreciate critical feedback. Most people aren't apt to give it, much less care to take the time to give it. Let it go and let me be the exception. I'm not denying it's amazing.
This was fantastic! I'm a huge Doctor Who fan and the amount of precision you put into making this was lovely. Terrific job!!
AWESOME JOB Brandon! Dr. Who is still one of my favorite shows, I remember watching as a kid through out my teens!
Excellent choice of colors, the colors of the Tardis is so Crisp and Clean, very impressed!
I still can't believe the style of this, such ingenious techniques that create such a amazing end product
Once again, I enjoy watching you do this. I am amazed by what you do. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to watch theses.
Awesome, I like that you are so versatile in your paintings.
Just watching my video again... I sure do love this painting. Glad it is on my wall!

Very nice painting
What type of paints do you use? They have such a nice stream on them...better than the paints that I use
I believe it's rustoleum.
This is insane! Legit work
Hey dude can you order a painting online? If so I would like to order a few and my friends and family. Your paintings are a piece of art.
Beautiful, it must take a lot of planning, before you start, or does it just guide you as it goes?

Thanks for answering,
i seriouslyhope to be able to do what you do a day ...
Do you do requests for purchase?
So If I wanted to do something like this on a skateboard would it work? Or do I need a different type of paint?
Did you make the stencil for the tardis or buy it somewhere if so what kind of material did you cut it out of?
What was that last spray you used to cover the picture with to make it look even glossier at the end???
You are just great!!!!!!
What did you spray on last to give it the glossy look?
Awesome !
What type of caps do you use ?
How much for one of these? My son would love to have one.
That is really cool
what was that spray in the end?
What do you charge for something like this?
what is the size of that poster board?

Can i use graffiti cans for that?
What type of spray cans do you use? Well paint,... and paper. It looks to glossy!
these guys aren't wealthy, so I'm guessing low end paint. looks glossy because of all the coats and its not dry.

How much do you want for it
Very nice
could you make me a painting with old ship wrecks and planets on the background,,
I m really into marine slash ship wrecks,, I would like to have a couple of your paintings
if you would make them,,
Nice!!
this is so rad!!!!
what's the point of the clear spraypaint?
its a clear coat. it hardens over the color so it stays the same
sean fleming oh
The way he uses it is to put it over paint that is drying so he can put a texture on it.
love it love it love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
7:00, now.... let the fun part begin! xD
i love this art and im a whovian i love doctor who i want this art
Looks great, but a minor suggestion (geek stuff). Make one of the planets red, to symbolize Gallifrey (the Doctors home planet). Great work.

Exactly! No music. I also like listening with headphones on.
mmm i havent tried that yet, i shall one day!
Why not just mute the video?
because i want to hear the spray paint, scraping page ripping and other page noise. idky but i like those sounds.
Agreed.
Wow!
Wow. I don't watch Dr. Who but this is really amazing. o _o
wish this was timelapsed lol
Can anyone help me here , should i get IRONLAK 400 or get MONTANA ALIENS? which would be better suited for art like this ? and if its not too much could someone tell me the downsides too both of them , thanks
I watched an episode of Dr Who on Netflix, then checked my subs on TH-cam, and here this was...
I am Lisa. I am eleven and I want paiting like you. I have 5 spray cans and I want somewhen paiting this picture. This is very cool! And you are very cool! Can you give me template/stencil of TARDIS?
P.S. I am not know English very good, I live in Ukraine so that sorry for errors:)

HoshiHikari the Tardis or whatever is blue, let it go and go criticize our own artwork. seriously this is amazing.
