No critics to Europe at all. The story (briefly) is: his parents died when he was 12-13. His father always said: the world has no borders. So he said: then I want to be at the Eurovision Song Contest one day. After the death of his parents, he started searching for the meaning of life (and relief of his pain) by traveling, but never actually found it there. He gave people money (psychologists?) to help him, but it didn't work. Until he realized that he still had time and therefore still had options to realize his dreams. After all, the world has no borders right? And so he did. The burning house represents losing but also moving on, in a positive way. Burning your bridges: no longer controlled by pain and sadness, but focused on your dreams. Without limitations/borders.
Imagery and symbolism can have mutiple meanings. The shoulder pad filling politician type figure is a caricature and parody, and the house represents Europe as well, his home. The song makes a lot of nostalgic throwbacks to the Europe of the 90s, which was a Europe nearly everyone believed in, today, many people aren't so sure. Politicians talk a lot of shit while the house they're appointed to watch is burning down. The song certainly represents what he learned from his father. Which is that the world is without borders, they're imagined, and yet borders matter more than ever in times of war and political upheaval.
@@kerenaltberg5202 what a nonsensical comment, so anyone who criticizes Israel's policies is an anti-Semite?! I know plenty of Jewish people in my country who totally disapprove of what is going on right now, so they are also anti-Semites?
He doesn't say he doesn't like paella (or fish & chips or escargots). What he's trying to say is that to whatever country he goes of whatever he eats in those countries it won't take away the pain of loosing his parents at a young age and that he can't run away from his feelings. At the end he burns his pain so to speak and remembers his father's words about life having no limits (and the world has no borders/boundaries). The song is no joke-entry and it's not a political one either. It's a tribute to his parents and about him being an orphan from a young age (I believe about 12/13 years of age) who is trying to survive in this world we are living in.
Try to understand to song again... Its no critic to Europe... Joost klein lost his both parents, that is what this song is about. The euro papa. Is meaning papa'dad'.
The song is no critic to Europe. The song is dedicated to his parents, and more specific to his dad. When he was younger he used to watch to the Eurovision together with his parents, where he told them that one day he would be there on the stage of Eurovision. To which his father said that he needed to go for his dreams, because there are no grenzen (which means limits). Sadly at the age of 12, Joost lost his father to cancer. A year later, he also lost his mother due to a cardiac arrest. So the song is for them. No critic to Europe..
This is a masterpiece!!! This is the winner of Eurovision Songcontest 2024. No doubt. Europapa = Eurodad. 12 points for The Netherlands. An ode to his father who passed away when he was 12 years and his mother who passed away when he was 13 years. He promised his father that one day he will be singing at the Eurovision. They used to watch it together when he was a child. Now he made it, because he will be on stage this year. The fire simbolise letting go of the pain no having his parents and the start of a new chapter in his life.
You can travel freely in a Europe w/o borders but the pain of the loss of loved ones travels with you. Follow your dreams and make the ones you love proud. Carry the memories with you but also their lessons. Joost is no joke he is a survivor right through the pain to party on the eurovision stage.
What the 'best' song? Dutch happy hardcore you feel in the bones. It makes you stand up, go completely mental and forget about all your sorrows. Good enough for me. He is not bashing Europe, he is praising it for being beautiful. Travel around without needing a visum and do whatever you want. Freedom baby! Besides that, there is a deeper layer about his parents dying when he was young. He dont need a visum to go to them either..... ;). But in the end, dont overthink and just enjoy. Letsgoooooooooo crazy!!
I think you need to listen it with subtitles 😂. Its not critic to Europe at all. Watch it again and learn to understand the song. 12 points for the Netherlands 🎉
The way you instantly grew cold once ‘paella’ was mentioned… classic 😂 Unfortunately you were too busy being butthurt over something that wasn’t even meant as criticism, that you completely missed the message. Read the post of ‘kiekendiefje’, it has everything you need to know. Take care 😘
I mean you know we, Germany, fucked up this year we will probably be last place as usual - but seeing this man from Netherlands just makes me feel so happy about the contest even though it is not my country so I wish that he will win this.
You get offended so quickly! 😮 His message is not that he doesn’t like paella. His message is: who cares for good food if you have to deal with the pain of becoming an orphan at the age of 12/13. This is not a song about politics. This is a song about grief. You cannot run away from the pain, not even if you travel to all the countries in Europe. The pain is even stronger than being interested in paella. Since you were so offended, you must be able to imagine how overwhelming his grief is.
¿Quizás sería útil escuchar primero la canción completa antes de dar tu opinión? Y a profundizar más en lo que quiere decir con la canción porque estás completamente equivocado con tu explicación y no te ofendas tanto con la paella. Maybe it would be useful to listen to the entire song first before giving your opinion? And to delve more into what he wants to say with the song because you are completely wrong with your explanation and don't act so offended about the paella 😛
Whahahahhahha that you really got angry with him not knowing Paella, believe me, he knows what it is. Everyone here knows what Paella is. Don't sweat it
This is fabulous, I gave up on the UVSC 3 years ago but Joost makes me want to watch it again. This work of art has it all, it makes you laugh, it makes you wanna move to the groove, and it is a great message, so many typical Dutch referrals / hidden gems, it gives me Chickenskin (Goosebumps) and it made me cry. I have found out how great Joost is because of this piece of art, I did not even know about him before he was on the Avondshow with Arjen Lubach not so long ago. My initial 1st impression was ""what a nutter"", but that soon changed finding out his backstory and hearing this art for the 1st time. Now I am backtracing his artwork and am amazed at how great of an artist he actually is, and me being no spring chicken anymore at 58 and counting he achieved to impress me, and I'm not easily impressed. Joost is a revelation, wow!! Joost lost his dad to cancer when he was a teenager +/- 13 years old, and his mother died from a heart attack a year later. ""Those who laugh the brightest most always have the heaviest loads they carry around, where ever they travel that backpack of experiences is always there, they can't escape from that, be as free a spirit as you can be, respect your elders, don't waste your time, and an ode to his dad credo""borders are stupid"", and Ubuntu(*)"" This sums up Europapa (papa is Dutch for Daddy) for me, it is true Art and a masterpiece by Joost (Joast) Klein (kline). The song is a tribute to his dad. Joost always wanted to compete in Eurovision and his dad told him that there are no limits (or as shown in this video: no borders). “A critic to Europe” ? 🤔 it’s a big tribute to Euro & his Papa (parents, who both died when he was 12 & 13). Dance the pain away!
You have no clue about the message, clearly
