6DOF platform in action - x-plane - Ian's BFF 6DOF software - AMC1280USB

  • Some footage of the calibration tests of Richard's platform. Some additional calibration is needed in the software side (Ian's BFF 6DOF) but it already beats commercial platforms with its performance! I had to limit the motors max speed to 50% cause in some cases it kicks really hard!

    Great work! I've just received my developer kit oculus rift. With what you've done so far, I urge you to get one. This looks like a marriage made in heaven!

      We made light years of progress since that platform, see how we build them now:

    Thanks! It will get better. That was the result of just a few hours of initial calibrations.

    I could see how to a normal person that sounds high, but from the research I've done, that sounds like you have done your homework! I'm very impressed with those numbers for sub-$5k. I'll try to get in touch with you when i have a chance, I would (personally) like to make a setup similar with a A-10C Cockpit.
    Thanks, and very impressive work.

    How much time and money do you have into this project so far? I'm in Texas, USA and I'd love top build one of these at some point for a couple different sims.

    Can you tell me what motors/gearboxes and vfd's you are using? I am starting a 6dof build myself.

    Wow.. nice work.. sure with I had a spare $4000 So will you try this with Oculus Rift V.R headset ?

  • @semphony100
    @semphony100 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are those VFDs at the bottom of the setup driving the motors ?
    How you interface those with your micro controller (analog signal or serial )
    and what type of micro controller are you using ?

    Hi Cameron, The cost of the platform (motors, vfd inverters, mechanical parts) was about $4000. About 10 times less than the commercial ready solutions out there, and 2 times more powerful. It can lift 900lbs load in full speed. If you are truly interested in something like that you can contact me on my email
    Best Regards,
    Thanos

    About exporting accelerations real time from x-plane, is it possible? It seems that's what you're doing. I'm working on a University project to build a flight simulator with a cockpit and motion platform, and we are hesitating whether to use x-plane or flightgear as the software.

    • @tronicgr
      @tronicgr  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, we retrieve real time acceleration and rotation data, combined altogether with Classic washout filters and 6DOF inverse kinematics math to position the platform to the correct motion cues.

    • @armand631
      @armand631 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool, thanks, I wanted to know if it was possible to do with x-plane. We're probably going to go with FlightGear anyway cause we're cheap, but thanks for the info!

    I like the design of that one. How much did that cost to build? Looks expensive.

    • @tronicgr
      @tronicgr  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt Smith The material cost for this platform was $4500. It uses durable industrial 1.5HP AC motors and heavy duty Gearboxes. Plus industrial quality Hitachi WJ200 2HP VFD inverters.

      Thanos 6DOF motion sim electronics That's a little pricey but not to bad.

    • @tronicgr
      @tronicgr  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matt Smith it is saving cost if you DIY. Such solid 6DOF platform made in China starts at $15000, while locally in USA can start at $35000 !!! Have a look around and you will see some crazy prices!
      I made my own 6DOF Servo Signal Conditioner circuit ( 6 channel analog -11v to +11v converter) for example that costs $180, while in the market you find similar signal conditioners that cost $200 for just 2 channels!!!

    900 pound load? Sounds like a good over-engineering margin that should result in long service life for those drive units.

      andy sky yes, it supports simtools as well. there are many people on xsimulator forum that own the controller and using it on their 6dof platforms. it's the only controller that can be used also with Ian's BFF 6dof and the other x-sim3 motion software. see last link I gave for more info on that.

      thank you. by the way, is there step by step to build 6 dof very detail guide? I saw few people build thead pages but its not giving very detail information for me to fully understand step by step. For example, i have to know exactly where all 6 motors has to mount on the floor board. Is there detail build thread page you recommend?
