They tried this with my Mom. She was at her bank taking money out when the teller told her it was a scam, got the bank manager involved and they called the police. Thank goodness for people who help out people like my Mom who was starting dementia at the time. And a FedEx truck showed up at her house.
So I’m unaware of FedEx’s processes, but if one showed up at your moms house do you think people are: 1.) getting jobs at FedEx to specifically act as money mules? 2.) taking the same make and model van as FedEx and wrapping them as FedEx Vans? 3.) ordering a pickup through FedEx? I said I’m unaware of their processes because is this even a thing? How much money are they spending on mules and what is the breakdown there?

I’ve been on SSDI for 20 years myself, and it always cracks me up when we get those calls from scammers claiming that we urgently owe taxes. You obviously know that that’s literally impossible for you and I, so I always have some fun with them. 😊
I KID YOU NOT! Last week my husband got a call from the police department as well!!!! But they said they’re Jersey police and the radio in the back was for NYPD, so my husband knew right away it’s some scam. He hung up and directly called the nj police back … and they said “was it some Indian guy? We don’t know how they keep hacking our number”. That’s Freakin crazy !!!!
Yes I get that call 3 times a month this is Joe same recorded guy and sometimes live but it's not legit they take money for the police that never get .the problem is I can't donate in good faith anymore so now I call the one I want to help . With receipts tax reasons
I was able to help an elderly lady at my work the other day avoid being scammed. She said her “friend” emailed her asking for a $350 iTunes gift card and I explained to her it sounds fishy and to verify that it was a legit email. She comes back half hour later and buys me a bunch of flowers because it was indeed a scam. It’s thanks to these videos that I was able to help her in the first place.

@@Code7Unltd Not really. Indian has a higher economic growth rate than VietNam. Regular Indians are not the ones doing the scamming. It is a problem of police taking bribes, and the top-level government not cracking down on that.
The scammers are in India. US law enforcement can't do anything about it. And India barely cares when the laws violated aren't hurting their own country. As long as the call center pays their taxes on the scammed money as income, it's mostly ignored.

I work in a small local computer repair shop and it breaks my heart the amount of our work is helping elderly remove malicious programing from their computers and providing their banks with our findings of scam evidence. Worst case we had a lady loose more than 30k and she was too embarrassed to tell a soul.
I got a scam claiming to be from my internet provider and said they were coming over to my house. This is real and scary that they are sending criminals to victims' houses. They didn't get in, I made sure of it. Protect yourselves and your family. Stay safe!

It is but cops here dont have jurisdiction for criminals in a different country. Could report them to their own country and own police but i doubt theyll do anything on their end.

The new scam that really concerns me involves AI. They use AI to mimick the voice of a friend or loved one and claim that there is some terrible emergency. I learned you should always hang up and call said person to verify that there is an emergency.
This is the hardest and most disturbing call I have heard. The scammers are really getting out of hand. They are Literally tying up emergency services. True emergencies are on the back burner.

This happened to a person I know two weeks ago. She pulled out $40k cash and when she got home a car pulled up behind her to pick up the money. Her husband realized something was wrong and convinced her not to hand it over!
That was a close call, I think all elderly people should be shown these videos. I know I have shown them to some of my aunts and Uncles that aren't tech savvy

@@MidwestFarmToys ALL governments should be stopping this. You must remember that the money mules will be based in the country where the victims are. There are a lot of parties involved from the telecoms companies allowing spoofing to banks for not being too bothered until legislation is enacted to force them to pay customers back [like in the UK]. Hitting the mules as hard as possible with large sentences and asset seizures and working up the chain would be a start.
These scams could make hundreds of thousands of people die if the scammers succeed. Thank you for your hard work, and I hope that scammers in the future won’t exist!
I have had so much fun wasting scammers' time! I get multiple calls a day and I mess with about a third of them. I'm disabled, at home, and got nuthin' goin' on! Bring it on!
Still my fav for auto warranty scammers is to say the car is 4 year old Stanley Steamer and wait as they research. Those scammers are looking for people owning mid range priced automobiles. Saying Ford Model T or Lamborghini they immediately end the call where a Steamer generally not on their list.
I've heard of people meeting, but coming to your home? No,way. That is scary. When I was a cashier, I was able to stop one scam from going through. Felt good to be able to inform him how to avoid this happening again.

I’m a 911 dispatcher, for example we may get a call from a third party relative saying they need help at their relative’s place. We get the scene phone number as well as may call a historical number for that address. Depends on the scenario.
THIS! 911 won't even show up as 911 when they call back anyway. It shows as the department that they're attached to, which is usually you're local dept unless there was a redirect in dispatching, which then shows up as a private caller.

Scarry is money mules often directed to a bitcoin or other crypto and immediately deposit the money they collected. Less chance of them being caught with money in hand.
It is in almost any country as well. Which tells you that the local police are on the take as well in many of these cases. Everyone looks the other way or can't be bothered. He's done episodes on this - and the local police do nothing at all.

This is a large part of how these scams work, especially on older Boomers. The idea that you are smarter and better than the average person and that you are a bit more special as well. So of course they would contact you directly over such a matter. And we all know the reality here. We are blips on their radar and even Scammer Payback can hardly get local authorities to bother to respond or software companies to do anything. This experience strengthens the necessity of educating ourselves and our family about these scammers. Their tactics are becoming more sophisticated, pretending to be authorities like the police or FBI, and being aggressive at times.

That "FBI agent" sounds so insanely ridiculous, it doesn't matter what age you are, nobody who is even slightly sound of mind would fall for that. I think there is an element of extreme panic that blinds people to things in a way that could never happen if they were calm.
Many of the seniors are struggling with their faculties and the pressure and abuse pushes them into a fear response. We do a lot of education on this and the following week we have more reports. The same person again and again no matter what we tell her. She forgets or she gets scared. Sure will actually leave her home in fear almost daily scared to go home because someone said they are coming there. They make so many calls that cost them nothing but a little time until they find someone vulnerable. It only takes one to make a pay off worth it. Many seniors do not have active family members in their life to check in on them, to monitor the finances, etc
I had a scammer call me posing as the sheriff here. I live in a very small town and know the sheriff very well. I told him he sure didn't sound like him and pronounced his name totally wrong. He hung up instantly.
They are using the British term for the chief of a police station, its likely what they still use themselves. In Ireland, we also have superintendent ranks in the police. Its a byproduct of colonialism.

Couple months ago I was bombarded with dozens of calls from different phone numbers. I let them all go to voicemail. Not a single one left a message. That tells me “scammer.”
I do the same thing but there have been a few rare times that I've received a voicemail from the scammers that I assume that they left just because they have so many calls going out at the same time, just trying to get one to answer, they didn't hang up before my voicemail recorded them. All I've heard, on the very few that I've gotten that way, is a lot of foreign sounding voices in the background talking. They're only a few seconds long but enough to tell it's a foreign scammer headquarters somewhere in the world.
I do this with every call that I get. If they don't leave a voicemail, they go into my blocked contacts. No second chance. Even if it's My own area code. Eventually, after a decade, I don't get these calls anymore. I think they keep a list and if you never answer, they mark it as inactive and don't waste time calling it

It’s in England and the callers have British accents. I answered one the other day and said “do I SOUND like a James”? I’m a chick with a very chick voice. Might mess with them a bit maybe 🤷🏻♀️
I have scammers calling my work daily trying to scam my boss. I would love for you to track these idiots and close them down before they scam someone one day.
I was getting 20 calls a day before you shut them down last time. I am now back to 8-12 calls a day. Every single time I pick up the phone, I harass and make fun of them, but they still call. I don’t get it, you’d think they would blacklist my # because they clearly aren’t fooling me.
by answering their calls you're indirectly telling them that your number is active so they can either sell your number off to other scam centers or persistently try to get something out of you. the only way you can stop it is by ignoring their calls entirely. i know this because that's what happened to me, i had a ton of calls daily at first when I initially picked up the phone but after a few months of ignoring their calls they've basically completely stopped. i'll get 1 call every blue moon still but that's just unavoidable
Those phony American accents, especially their official law enforcement officer dialects, are hilarious. They try to do it so carefully and so slowly, but the Indian always slips through. No method acting there! I don’t know how Pierogi doesn’t burst out laughing at them! 😅

It's so dumb that they think 911 would ever call somebody. If the police wants to talk to you they would come to your house not call you from a 911 number lol.
Correct - Years go I had dialed 911 by accident, when they answered I explained I called the number accidentally however the police showed up at my door anyway even though I did not give 911 an address. When I spoke with the police they saw I was not in danger.
I accidentally pocket dialed 911 over a decade ago, and they called me back to see if everything was okay. I told them what happened, and they were like "okay", then we hung up. I'm just saying they do call back. But only if you call them first.

My mom and Dad are getting to an age now where they are prime targets and your videos alone have helped me beyond words to explain to them what to watch out for. Please, if i may, can i suggest something going forward when you speak to potential/actual victims in real time. * Introduce who you are and why you're calling straight away, instead of going straight in with put the phone down to these people, they're scammers. I honestly think this could help massively given the time sensitive nature of what you do and also given the fact that so many people say to you: "I have no idea who to trust right now" * Also, if anyone in that situation does declare that they don't know who to trust, as well as you suggesting that the person finds you on youtube (great idea) - Make the most important point of all: They can trust you over the other person, because you're not trying to take money from them, Nor any of their personal details, whereas the fraudster is. Just a couple of hopefully helpful suggestion box items to try and help de-escalate situations, calm people down and quickly develop trust with whoever it is you're talking to, particularly scared elderly people. Keep up the amazing work, You guys are a true inspiration.

Hello Perogi aka scammer payback. Today the 6th of August my mother was almost scammed she had been on her computer when someone contacted her on the computer. I don’t know the full details as I’m in Australia and she’s in New Zealand. Fortunately my brother managed to catch things before things got too serious in terms of my mother getting scammed out of money. I just wanted to thank you for the diligent work you put into stopping the scammers and getting them arrested especially in India and thank goodness there’s an army of people that do similar to what you do in holding these scammers accountable. Thank you again and please keep up the fantastic work.

The new scam that really concerns me involves AI. They use AI to mimick the voice of a friend or loved one and claim that there is some terrible emergency. I learned you should always hang up and call said person to verify that there is an emergency.
And you can always call the hospital to verify. Look up the hospital number yourself online ❤
This is the hardest and most disturbing call I have heard. The scammers are really getting out of hand. They are Literally tying up emergency services. True emergencies are on the back burner.

This happened to a person I know two weeks ago. She pulled out $40k cash and when she got home a car pulled up behind her to pick up the money. Her husband realized something was wrong and convinced her not to hand it over!

There are a lot of parties involved from the telecoms companies allowing spoofing to banks for not being too bothered until legislation is enacted to force them to pay customers back [like in the UK].
Hitting the mules as hard as possible with large sentences and asset seizures and working up the chain would be a start.

Still my fav for auto warranty scammers is to say the car is 4 year old Stanley Steamer and wait as they research. Those scammers are looking for people owning mid range priced automobiles. Saying Ford Model T or Lamborghini they immediately end the call where a Steamer generally not on their list.

I’m a 911 dispatcher, for example we may get a call from a third party relative saying they need help at their relative’s place. We get the scene phone number as well as may call a historical number for that address. Depends on the scenario.
THIS! 911 won't even show up as 911 when they call back anyway. It shows as the department that they're attached to, which is usually you're local dept unless there was a redirect in dispatching, which then shows up as a private caller.

This is a large part of how these scams work, especially on older Boomers. The idea that you are smarter and better than the average person and that you are a bit more special as well. So of course they would contact you directly over such a matter.

That "FBI agent" sounds so insanely ridiculous, it doesn't matter what age you are, nobody who is even slightly sound of mind would fall for that. I think there is an element of extreme panic that blinds people to things in a way that could never happen if they were calm.
Many of the seniors are struggling with their faculties and the pressure and abuse pushes them into a fear response.
We do a lot of education on this and the following week we have more reports. The same person again and again no matter what we tell her. She forgets or she gets scared. Sure will actually leave her home in fear almost daily scared to go home because someone said they are coming there.
They make so many calls that cost them nothing but a little time until they find someone vulnerable. It only takes one to make a pay off worth it.
Many seniors do not have active family members in their life to check in on them, to monitor the finances, etc

I had a scammer call me posing as the sheriff here. I live in a very small town and know the sheriff very well. I told him he sure didn't sound like him and pronounced his name totally wrong. He hung up instantly.

They are using the British term for the chief of a police station, its likely what they still use themselves. In Ireland, we also have superintendent ranks in the police. Its a byproduct of colonialism.

Couple months ago I was bombarded with dozens of calls from different phone numbers. I let them all go to voicemail. Not a single one left a message. That tells me “scammer.”
I get them in spurts too. I don’t answer any of them. Lately my phone has been quiet regarding these types of calls.
I do the same thing. I answered one out of interest and just listened. An Indian voice said hello hello and then hung up… 🤷🏻♀️
I do the same thing but there have been a few rare times that I've received a voicemail from the scammers that I assume that they left just because they have so many calls going out at the same time, just trying to get one to answer, they didn't hang up before my voicemail recorded them. All I've heard, on the very few that I've gotten that way, is a lot of foreign sounding voices in the background talking. They're only a few seconds long but enough to tell it's a foreign scammer headquarters somewhere in the world.
I do this with every call that I get.
If they don't leave a voicemail, they go into my blocked contacts.

Eventually, after a decade, I don't get these calls anymore. I think they keep a list and if you never answer, they mark it as inactive and don't waste time calling it

Spoofing emergency services numbers is flat out impossible without criminal negligence from the phone company.
I was getting 20 calls a day before you shut them down last time. I am now back to 8-12 calls a day. Every single time I pick up the phone, I harass and make fun of them, but they still call. I don’t get it, you’d think they would blacklist my # because they clearly aren’t fooling me.
I must be so lucky to only ever have 4-6 phone calls from scammers probably 20yr ago when I got rid of my landline!
Stop answering unknown numbers and you won't get ANY calls...or very few. I don't answer unknown numbers and it's been several months since I got one.

by answering their calls you're indirectly telling them that your number is active so they can either sell your number off to other scam centers or persistently try to get something out of you. the only way you can stop it is by ignoring their calls entirely. i know this because that's what happened to me, i had a ton of calls daily at first when I initially picked up the phone but after a few months of ignoring their calls they've basically completely stopped. i'll get 1 call every blue moon still but that's just unavoidable

It's so dumb that they think 911 would ever call somebody. If the police wants to talk to you they would come to your house not call you from a 911 number lol.
Correct - Years go I had dialed 911 by accident, when they answered I explained I called the number accidentally however the police showed up at my door anyway even though I did not give 911 an address. When I spoke with the police they saw I was not in danger.
I accidentally pocket dialed 911 over a decade ago, and they called me back to see if everything was okay. I told them what happened, and they were like "okay", then we hung up. I'm just saying they do call back. But only if you call them first.

Please, if i may, can i suggest something going forward when you speak to potential/actual victims in real time.
* Introduce who you are and why you're calling straight away, instead of going straight in with put the phone down to these people, they're scammers. I honestly think this could help massively given the time sensitive nature of what you do and also given the fact that so many people say to you: "I have no idea who to trust right now"
* Also, if anyone in that situation does declare that they don't know who to trust, as well as you suggesting that the person finds you on youtube (great idea) - Make the most important point of all: They can trust you over the other person, because you're not trying to take money from them, Nor any of their personal details, whereas the fraudster is.
Just a couple of hopefully helpful suggestion box items to try and help de-escalate situations, calm people down and quickly develop trust with whoever it is you're talking to, particularly scared elderly people.

Hello Perogi aka scammer payback.
Today the 6th of August my mother was almost scammed she had been on her computer when someone contacted her on the computer.
I don’t know the full details as I’m in Australia and she’s in New Zealand. Fortunately my brother managed to catch things before things got too serious in terms of my mother getting scammed out of money.
I just wanted to thank you for the diligent work you put into stopping the scammers and getting them arrested especially in India and thank goodness there’s an army of people that do similar to what you do in holding these scammers accountable. Thank you again and please keep up the fantastic work.
