Some tunes of this version were gifted in the sound test of TFIV. I was lucky enough to have a coin-op with TF AC in a bar near my school back in 1994 to notice those things altogether. No internet to note them at the moment!! watching this just reminded me :)
There's a Super Nintendo port too. It's called Thunder Spirits. It's not as good as the Genesis port. It has worse music and sound effects. Gameplay's fine though, but you can't select a starting level like in the Genesis version. It's closer to the arcade version.
Just so you know, the sound is not correctly emulated on this one. If you can play or listen to the sega ages version, it sounds somewhere between the middle of the genesis and the snes version
It's nice and only in that time could a game be that popular that an arcade version could come out as well! The 16 bit is still a little sublime in pure perfection but any Thunderforce 3 with an expansion is great here?! I even remember reading a brief article about this via EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly!) in 1990 as well! Happier times back then sigh...
Kinda surprised the player didn't just close in after the gargoyle's first attack and stab it to death with the lancer. It goes down super quick whether you are playing the harder Japanese version or American version of this game, at least on the sega ages port.
Without the Megadrive version, there would be no arcade version to begin with...I see it as a level expansion to the Megadrive version so both go hand in hand here...
Megadrive/Genesis version is better. No need to change the later levels, they were fine as they were. The music on this version is also not quite as good. Still a great game though
Think off it as a slight expansion off the MD version here, sure it's not nearly as great as the original but it is something though?! But of course you'd always choose the arcade/Sega Ages over the SNES port though...

Crazy how spot on they got the genesis port. Always loved thunder force 3, never even knew there was an arcade cabinet.
In fact the Arcade version was the port. TFIII on the Mega Drive was so popular back then that Technosoft released this version for arcades.

This came out AFTER the MD release. System C-2 is largely based on MD hardware. It's a bit faster and has an additional NEC ADPCM IC.

at 2:55 when you cant see your fighter blocked by tree, there should be hidden weapon at top screen. (old memories)

The AC version has less slowdown and clearer sound, so it's pretty even.
thunder force ac is not the same as thunderforce 2

Nice great vid. Prefer the arcade over the mega drive version.
The graphics are better, but the music, intensity are much better on Mega Drive. Stages 4 and 5 on Mega are better too.
