I can’t afford holiday gifts for anyone this year. This pattern will literally allow me to stash dive, and make something for everyone I wanted something for. Thank you, so much!
So nice! I love how you always make crochet looks modern. Lots of ppl think that crocheted items are looking old, outdated, etc. but everything you make is so up to date!
Thank you. Your patterns are always beautifully written and they make the best end-products with no tweaking necessary! I love gifting my makes from your brain!!! ❤
I knew if I just came here I'd find exactly what I needed! I'm finishing the star stitch blanket and I wanted something else for the brava bulky I have on hand and it's HERE! Thank you!
Girl………. Girl……. Just Finished making your Hat, Beanie, Toboggan… whatever your FAV…. This Hat is Amazeballs !!! Free People, got nothing on YOU!!! I used Real Thick Chunky Yarn, and it’s BIG!!! Exactly the Style, I was looking for… I made a Fish Applicate to put on the Front… because my Brother lives in a Cold Climate, and loves to Fish!!!! This should keep him warm and Fashionable… it’s way better lookin than those old fisherman beanies… they’re kewl and all… but this One Rawks!!! Thank you Gajillions !!!! Whoop!!! 💯🤍🤣🎣🐟🤠
I just made this one with the help of this tutorial. Its so neat and clear but for some reason, the number of stitches told in this video was giving me smaller sized piece. Not an adult sized. So I just increased number of rows and length of it to fit for my dad and I used 2 colurs. He loved it 😍
I love this pattern for a hat, thank you. I made this hat the same way except not the slip stitch row, over 50 years ago using mohair yarn, always liked wearing it. It was warm and fit well but stretched out a bit over time, I will make it a little more snug for my next one. Can’t wait to make it.
Lovely pattern this, just a quick tip - i would recommend substituting the double crochets for a linked double crochet, used that as well instead of a stacked sc when turning. Using linked dc gives closes the gaps between the dc's and also gives an extra subtle finish which looks very pretty.
Such a fun beanie! One question I have is, why not just make the hat longer and then fold it up for the cuff? What's the benefit of creating a separate cuff? Seriously curious! Thank you for all your amazing tutorials and patterns!
Thank you Mj. I started on a Ribbed hat early now yesterday but took it apart. I love the way you did your stitches on the rows. You have a new Subscriber as well.
I don’t know if it’s my tension or what but I’ve now made two of these and have to add another 2-4 rows to make it big enough to fit my adult sized head. I even went up a hook size on the second one and it still wasn’t big enough.
It was hard to see for me, too. It was the two loops on the inside of the stitch if you turn the stitch to face you, rather than the two on the outside.
I used Premier® Just Yarn® Value 100% Acrylic, it works to gauge measurements, and the hooks I did not change. You have to test it out, when Ms. Michelle gives in the pattern the pattern gauge, do it. Honest at first I didn't understand, and I also didn't do it, but it will save you the frustration of frogging the project. Even on her blog each project is detailed completely. Ms. MJ doing the tutorial is a bonus.
How many rows did your ribbing have. I ended up with 52 rows so when I turned it up and just flopped back down. So dissapointed. Ill have to unstich it and do the ribbing again did you end up woth about 35 stitches
I have a Super Bulky #6 ball of yarn and the hook requirement says to use a crochet 9 mm hook. Do you have the measurements of wide and long for the finished product? This way I can gauge my stitches. Kindest regards, Nancy :)
MJ I love your patterns and your pumpkin inspired a friend to ask for a hat as a gift and I found this pattern but I cannot find bulky #5 yarn in pumpkin color... Can I use #4 yarn?? How much of a difference would it be?
The hat would come out smaller. You could gauge swatch and adjust your hook until you meet gauge. If you found a heavy worsted I'm sure it would turn out. You could always size up on the hat size.
The pompoms I use are in my Amazon shop under crochet supplies. www.amazon.com/shop/mjsoffthehookdesigns?ref_=cm_sw_r_apin_aipsfshop_aipsfmjsoffthehookdesigns_VVBJSEN7KQDWQBG1D05J
The pattern is designed in #5 Bulky weight yarn. Your hat will come out larger. Just make sure to do a gauge swatch and have the correct gauge before starting.
I would suggest Mary Maxim Marvellous Chunky as a more affordable option shrsl.com/3us69 or Chroma Twist as a higher value option shrsl.com/3us63. Or any Bulky #5 just make sure your gauge is correct when substituting.
I’m trying to make this beanie but using Lion Brand Scarfie is not working. It looks and feels like a 4 instead 5 weight and is tuning out to be 6 1/2 inches only and I’m working on the adult size like on the video. Do you have instructions for a 4 weight yarn or do I need to frog it and wing it by myself? I already returned to Michael’s a #5 weight which I found more like a 6 and was way more fuzzy than I like. I crochet loosely and still this first part seems too small. I already frogged it once bc somehow I seem to not be doing the stacked double correctly…. and I’m counting stitches which is not my favorite thing to do. Help! I hope you read your comments! Frogging this fuzzy yarn is terrible and I’m tempted to just cut it and start over!
I only have instructions for the pattern in 5 weight yarn. You could ask in my Facebook community group to see if anyone has suggestions facebook.com/groups/363218121026907/
I am having the worst time I’m just looking for a simple pattern of an adult rib hat. And since TH-cam has changed everything, I cannot find it most videos of moving constantly with music and everything else and not instructing us. Where do I go to put this complaint in.

Thank you! 😊
I need a printed copy of directions- i’m elderly and can’t keep up. Love your instructions,
I cannot agree with you more.
I have made 3 of these adult hats so far… Just love MJ’s designs🥰
What's the adult's tutorial
Just made this for my 1 year old and it’s adorable on him! 😍❤️
Thank you so much!
Ok, so I just chose what everyone's Christmas gift will be this year! I can't wait to get started.
Thank you. Your patterns are always beautifully written and they make the best end-products with no tweaking necessary! I love gifting my makes from your brain!!! ❤
Thanks so much ❤️
I thought this was going to be another basic ribbed hat but I’m blown away by how “extra” this pattern is!! I’m half way through and am in love!! TY 🧶
I knew if I just came here I'd find exactly what I needed! I'm finishing the star stitch blanket and I wanted something else for the brava bulky I have on hand and it's HERE! Thank you!
Thank you, Amazing tutorial. I’ve tried lots of different hat patterns and I love yours the best.
Thank-You ONCE again, MJ
My pleasure!
Absolutely fabulous directions! Can’t wait to try this pattern!

Haha, that's awesome! Thank you😆
I have purchased your patterns before but never watched your video- you did an excellent job of it. Thank you so much!❤
Awesome! Thank you!

Even i felt the same when i made,i made changes in number of stitches n then it was fine n good to go.
I just finished one and I was thinking to jump a hook size to 6.5 with a 6 for the ribbing
It depends on your own personal tension! Everything I make is always bigger than it is supposed to be! 😊
I had to add more rows too. But it was easy to do.
This is, for me, the nicest and easiest, modern looking beanie ever! I have to make 5 in black...my eyes! 😂
I love this pattern for a hat, thank you. I made this hat the same way except not the slip stitch row, over 50 years ago using mohair yarn, always liked wearing it. It was warm and fit well but stretched out a bit over time, I will make it a little more snug for my next one. Can’t wait to make it.
Wonderful!
Thank you , your voice is so clear and easy to understand. I love tour work Happy New Year with many Blessings
Another great project from you. Thank you!
Hey MJ, I looove all your projects but my fav are the blankets. You are very talented and your color choice is on spot!
God bless you dear❤
Thank you so much!
Such a fun easy stitch! ❤❤
It's one of my favorites!
I am currently working on this hat, I bought the pattern and it is well written. Thank you
Love it, simple but effective, thank you 👍
Love this riblicious beanie!!! Thank you for fresh creative designs MJ!
I love all you proyects
Thanks for your beautiful tutorial. I made this today.
Getting ready for winter. Happy new year.
Thank you! You too!
Hermoso proyecto!! Gracias por compartirlo ❤ saludos desde Argentina!!
This is a fun pattern to watch, now to create ! Thank you for all of your tutorials. Happy new year 🎉
Ty for doing a adult hat tutorial 👏
Just finished one. Love it ❤
Lovely pattern this, just a quick tip - i would recommend substituting the double crochets for a linked double crochet, used that as well instead of a stacked sc when turning.
Using linked dc gives closes the gaps between the dc's and also gives an extra subtle finish which looks very pretty.
What a beautiful hat thankyou I'm going to give this a go xx
Such a fun beanie! One question I have is, why not just make the hat longer and then fold it up for the cuff? What's the benefit of creating a separate cuff? Seriously curious! Thank you for all your amazing tutorials and patterns!
Thank you Mj. I started on a Ribbed hat early now yesterday but took it apart. I love the way you did your stitches on the rows. You have a new Subscriber as well.
Beautifully done! Thank you for sharing!
I love your videos! I have saved this to make. Thank you so much for sharing 🥰
That was fun! Thank you! Works up so quick!
Very nice and beautiful 😍 ❤
Sei bravissima 👍👍👍😘
I don’t know if it’s my tension or what but I’ve now made two of these and have to add another 2-4 rows to make it big enough to fit my adult sized head. I even went up a hook size on the second one and it still wasn’t big enough.
Beautiful! ❤
As for the crown, crochet the center in the round and join as you go - or try using slip stiches at the crown instead of single crochets
I created a different way of crocheting this hat. I crochet the brim and cap all in one. I didn’t like how it turned out crocheting both separately.
Love it ❤️
Muito obrigado por ensinar! ♥️
Just finished. This is my new favourite hat to make. Thank you for another brilliant tutorial
The stacked double is very hard for me to follow. It looks like you went through 2 loops?
It was hard to see for me, too. It was the two loops on the inside of the stitch if you turn the stitch to face you, rather than the two on the outside.
Beginner question, when making the gauge swatch what stitch do you use?
Hi thank you for sharing im working on this now. How many inches would you say the 37 stitches equal in length? Thank you
Bulky 5 what can we use compared to what you are using? I Wool Ease I think it might be too thick.
If u weren't using chunky yarn,how many stitches would u use ?
Everything multiplied by two

I was so close….on the brim, I didn’t skip the chain before the 2 slip stitches. Will that make a bad difference??
Hi, love your patterns and videos. Would you mind letting me know what you are keeping your working yarn in while doing this project, please.
Beautiful hat and you are so talented. Would lionbrand hometown yarn work for this hat?
How many rows did your ribbing have. I ended up with 52 rows so when I turned it up and just flopped back down. So dissapointed. Ill have to unstich it and do the ribbing again did you end up woth about 35 stitches
What head size would the large adult size fit vs. adult size?
I love it! Gonna definitely do one, will there be a pair of mittens following?😊
I have a Super Bulky #6 ball of yarn and the hook requirement says to use a crochet 9 mm hook. Do you have the measurements of wide and long for the finished product? This way I can gauge my stitches. Kindest regards, Nancy :)
Making the hat, looks great so far, thank you! Is there a matching scarf?
No there's not
Nice work. Does the label stay on after washings?
Hi. Maybe this was answered already. But can I make this in a #4 weight yarn??
Where do you get your Pom poms from I can’t find any with the snaps
I get mine from Amazon!
MJ I love your patterns and your pumpkin inspired a friend to ask for a hat as a gift and I found this pattern but I cannot find bulky #5 yarn in pumpkin color... Can I use #4 yarn?? How much of a difference would it be?

How do I get the pattern for the child & baby size❓
Now this learning is for adult or baby size?
Is the stretchiness from the yarn material or the crochet pattern?
❤❤❤
I can’t find the link to the Pom poms. The ones I buy are ok but not as nice as yours. Would you share? Thank you

Just bought your pattern for this hat. I have a lot of super bulky #6 weight yarn. Will it work with this hat pattern? Thanks
The pattern is designed in #5 Bulky weight yarn. Your hat will come out larger. Just make sure to do a gauge swatch and have the correct gauge before starting.
How many rows for a Toddler sized hat
Is there a pattern for a matching scarf?

Hi!Can you please give alternative yarn for this project.
I would suggest Mary Maxim Marvellous Chunky as a more affordable option shrsl.com/3us69 or Chroma Twist as a higher value option shrsl.com/3us63. Or any Bulky #5 just make sure your gauge is correct when substituting.
Would this work with the new bulky yarn made into headbands?how much more would it take?
Brave bulky is a much thinner yarn, I wouldn't suggest it as a sub.
When you repeat row two (starting row 4)..do you do a ch and turn or just turn?
Yes, you are chaining every time you do that row.
@@mjsoffthehook thank you so much..about finished with my hat!👏👏
Thank you 😊 💕
Where did you purchase your tags
Where do you get your leather tags?

Or this hat is a very similar style and it is done in a 4 weight. th-cam.com/video/cSDRlS-Dq80/w-d-xo.htmlsi=IyG-vKOpoZD2fdq5

I’ve made this twice with two different 5 yarn and 6 hook and twice it’s too small! Ughhh
Have you tried to loosen your tension? You may need to add more rows.
